It is worth every penny, especially if you earn in a foreign currency, since Brazilian currency is struggling lately. Eça is a hidden gem below a Brazilian jewellery. Couvert is just ok, but might be worth it if you fancy it. I do not usually order couvert, but the nuts with spices were very tasty. Apart from that, bread and tiny slices of potatoes and toast with toppings would not justify charging R$ 20,00. Do not get me wrong. From the starters onwards the restaurant was just fantastic. The scallops dish looks like a work of art. It is also delicious. So is the poached egg, not the most beautiful dish, but tastes absolutely delicious. Main courses from Eça are absolutely mouthwatering. Fillet or premium meat (even more delicious). You name it. I do not get easily convinced when going to super expensive restaurants but I was completely overwhelmed. I could have been misinterpreted with this review so far, maybe because I was already satisfied before desert, even though I could not give up on an apple crepe with speculoos ice-cream, since I love speculoos. I did not regret a bit. A joyful experience.

It was more expensive than most of the meals we had in Rio but it was worth it, as it was one of my favorite meals during my trip. I ordered the Arroz Carioca which was soooo good. What a whirlwhird to start our trip. Prepare for a journey up windy streets and enjoy the street art and neighborhoods along the way. We had no idea when we got there we would arrive 20 minutes before closing, yet we still were met at the door and ushered into a magical treehouse with 360 views of the city. What an exhilerating and authentic experience!!! Super kind staff and the food - stellar, must go if you're in Rio.

High ceilings, classic atmosphere, the kind of place where you half expect people from a century ago to walk through the doors. All we had was the Café Colombo Especial Duplo (for two), and it was more than enough. Quick tip before ordering: adjust your expectations a bit. As Americans, we're used to breakfast meaning eggs, sausage, bacon the whole heavy lineup. In Brazil, breakfast leans more toward pastries, breads, yogurt, and coffee. And that's exactly what they brought out: baskets loaded with different kinds of bread, pastries, spreads, yogurt, and plenty of coffee. Honestly, it was a lot. So much bread we couldn't even finish it all. A simple breakfast, but in a setting that makes the whole experience feel special.

The interior is lovely with colorful decor and a comfortable ambiance, along with a chill, casual atmosphere. We were served complimentary boiled peanuts in the shell, and these were simply addicting! I thought it was a bit strange that there was no steak on the menu, given that we are in Brazil, but I learned this place specializes in Northeastern Brazilian cuisine, so perhaps steak is not so common in that particular region. Since I know I wanted to try authentic coconut shrimp soup, I decided to order that. This dish came with coconut rice and farro (a yellow, fine grainy substance, which was pretty tasty when mixed with the rice and soup.) In the soup, there were a ton of shrimp, which were delightfully tender, and succulent. The soup was full of flavor with plenty of yummy seasoning. The rice was nice and fluffy, but didn't have much coconut taste. I was able to try a bit of one of the nutty tapioca desserts. It was really unique with a chewy consistency, sweet, as well as light. There was a mouthwatering caramely sauce accompanying it. Service was wonderful throughout. We were well taken care of during our meal.

We were seated and ordered the cod fish ball which was delicious and the brazillian lamb with broccoli rice and potatoes - this dish was the highlight meal of our entire 10 day trip. The lamb is baked for 8-10 hrs and then deep fried to give it the perfect texture and bring out all the flavors that are balanced by the broccoli rice and garlic potatoes. We also tried their Colorado beer and it paired very well with the meal. Service was quick and if I would return to Brazil, i would definitely stop by here again without a doubt. Highly recommend this gem of a place.
Yelp Review 2025 #204:…read more Nova Capela is one of Rio's oldest restaurants. It's located in the Lapa neighborhood. They serve traditional Brazilian food. This restaurant can get pretty busy in the afternoon to evening so, the best strategy is to come here as soon as they open. When I went, it seemed like the diners were locals and a few tourists. I looked up this restaurant before coming here so I can narrow down what I wanted to try. Fish or chicken filet with broccoli rice was the plan. But that's not what I ended up getting! Octopus: I love octopus so, I had to get it. Tender, perfectly cooked. Not heavily seasoned so you can fully enjoy its natural flavor. 4/5 Bolinho Bacalhau: When in Brazil or Portugal, you have to get bacalhau. Salted cod fritter without being salty. You get some crunch while the inside is soft without being dry. 4/5 Just the right amount of food so I can try more than one dish. Satisfying lunch. This is a very homey small casual restaurant. Service was good. Just wave somebody over if you need something. You must try this place!
