In the US, you pay nothing and get nothing. In Scandinavia, you pay a lot and get a lot. In Catalonia, you pay a lot and get nothing.
The health care system is a perfect example of this. As an expat, the money you pay on Seguredad Social amount to between 150 and 250 Euro per month (out of an average salary of 1600 Euro before taxes), for which you get waiting lists for up to 1-2 years and doctors that don't speak English.
With this in mind you would think that private hospitals would fill the void, right? Wrong. Places such as Clinica Corachan steal your money and deliver below-par performances that do not take care of the physical issues you have now paid twice for, publicly and privately. They do perform painful examinations though, which have no connection to the ills you have. They also don't speak English, and they do not answer your e-mails for follow-up questions and answers.
