One of several Co-op supermarkets in Barrow, the Oxford Street branch has recently undergone a complete refit, for the most part this has improved the store. But because they have tried to make all the stores identical it has meant they have put the bread stuffs by the front door, and when the sun shines the bread sweats in its packets. So I wouldn't recommend going for bread on a sunny day, because you'll either get a crusty loaf that has sweated and turned soft, or a standard loaf that has dried out.
Apart from that, the staff are helpful and often come from behind the counter to help the elderly in particular. The range of goods is adequate for a small store, although the prices in the Co-op mean it only a place to buy emergency goods.
This branch is just down the road from Victoria infant school, so just before and after 3pm its extremely busy with parents on their way to school, or kids popping in for sweets on the way home. read more
