My first time at Coop for breakfast. We were seated quickly. At first I thought our server was a bit curt but he ended up being super helpful and friendly while we dined in. Not too busy on a weekday morning. We ordered the oatmeal and the mushroom omelet. Delicious! As good as the mushrooms were the locally sourced cheese was amazing too. Ambience is kind of dim even with all the natural light. I imagine this is a nice dinner time vibe, but for breakfast in the morning, it just had me continuing to feel sleepy even with coffee. Stopped here to meet with a friend and it was a good experience. We ended up there midday, so has to use their midday menu (which wasn't too bad at all). This is a cute restaurant and not hectic or crowded. The ambiance is very nice. It's lit well and the music isn't loud at all. Any time, and I mean ANY TIME, deviled eggs are on the menu I will order them. These were delicious at this spot. I was very impressed with the flavor. The smash burger was delicious and the mustard they use truly enhances the taste of the burger. It basically melts in your mouth! It looked so delicious that I couldn't even get a picture before digging in! If you like a fresh juice, please try their "steady" juice. It is so rich and sweet. When I'm back in the city, I'll be sure to stop by again and maybe check out their full lunch or dinner menu. read more

Decided on Co-op for dinner during my 12 hour adventure in Philly. The space is beautiful with lots of seating and a quick 10 minute walk to the Amtrak station. The service was lovely, very attentive and explained the specials and stopped by throughout my time there. I ended up getting the burger with truffle fries(+$2) it was good! No complaints. The truffle fries were good and I'm glad they didn't use truffle oil cause that often has a strong taste. I also ended up getting the cornbread butter cake. I didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped. The texture was very gritty and the apple butter was actually an apple compote (which I was aware of thanks to the server , but the menu says other wise) Overall I enjoyed my dinner and left full. I would encourage the establishment to update their menu because it seems a bit outdated or they aren't using the same ingredients, as mentioned above and there was supposed to be a pepper on the burger but that wasn't true(again, thanks to my server for pointing that out ahead of time) read more

This restaurant has a nice vibe with an almost open-kitchen concept, and it's actually attached to a beautiful hotel lobby which I didn't realize until I got there. The space itself is really pleasant and inviting. The food was genuinely delicious. The bacon and eggs were great, the orange juice was fresh, and the pancakes totally lived up to the hype--fluffy, buttery, and perfectly moist. The toast and hash browns were a bit too crispy for me, but still good overall. Service, however, was just okay. I came in around 11 AM on a weekday, and there seemed to be only one server juggling several tables. He was friendly but rushed and often walked away mid-conversation. It's a cute place with OK food. Easy find on Chestnut and parking was also simple enough - right across the street! Inside there's an outdoor/indoor vibe happening and they had a good selection of veggie friendly meals for brunch. I think the service was a little slow and we had to continuously ask for water. Arrived at CO-OP Restaurant & Bar 5 mins early from time of reservation. I was seated immediately. No one assisted me for another 10 mins and that individual inquired if I was being helped. I stated no and she went to the young man that was helping another table and made him aware that I needed to be helped. I ordered a cappuccino , the study ( 2 eggs any style, applewood smoked bacon, fried potatoes, toast), and a mimosa. I never received the mimosa and decided not to remind the waiter to bring it because I already finished my breakfast. The space is open and with plenty of seating. Our party of 4 overall had a good experience, but one issue made it a 3 star instead of 4. We had two beers, one glass of wine, two shareables, two pastas, one main, and one side. Food was good. Our favorites were the branzino and focaccia tomato pie. Servings were average size, although branzino was a bit small considering the price. Server was attentive. It was a Friday night and there were a couple larger parties and it was a bit loud, but that was ok. The issue that caused me to give a 3 star was the gratuity. I didn't see anything on the website or menu about this (even looking afterwards), but perhaps it's not in plain sight. I know it is common to add a gratuity to a larger party, but we were a party of 4, and an 18% gratuity was automatically added to our bill. That isn't what actually bothered me the most. One of my favorite restaurants automatically adds a 16% gratuity to all bills. Two differences though. It's on their menu and the server tells you. And they do not ask for or even offer the opportunity to give more. The Co-op adds the 18% and then has a line that says "additional gratuity." It may not bother some people, but I found it off-putting. read more

classy modern hotel restaurant with good ambiance and kind staff. the food though... underwhelming. my friend and i walked in for lunch on a monday and were quickly seated. i ordered the smash burger and my friend ordered the skirt steak salad. the burger was honestly extremely lackluster. the meat was quite dry, the burger was not very flavorful. definitely have had much better burgers in philly, especially for a $20 price tag. although i didn't try my friend's steak salad, the steak looked juicier but overcooked for medium rare. i would not come back for the food, but i would be open to trying their drinks at the bar. i have heard good things about their cocktails, but we opted not to drink this time. the best part of this meal was how attentive our waiter was. this was actually a belated birthday meal for my friend, and i brought her a birthday present. although we didn't say anything to our waiter, he took note and offered us a dessert on the house. we had the death by chocolate cake which was rich and decadent. it was just so sweet of our waiter, he truly made our lunch! read more

I have stayed at the Study for multiple visits over the years and always LOVE my meals at CO-OP. The food is fresh, the menu is creative, and the service is consistently friendly and attentive. If I lived in town, it would be on my regular rotation! Today's meal was an arugula salad, feta, and watermelon with roasted salmon. I may have to get it again tomorrow- so good! TL;DR- Service is terrible and food is well below par... If I could leave no stars, I would. This is my second time there with the same experience. It took well over an hour for our food to come out and we could see it in the window in front of the kitchen. Had our server stopped by to fill our water, we would have said something but they were no where to be found. When our food did come out, the buns were soggy, fries were cold, omelet's, were cold. Mine never came out. Eventually the manager came over and said they were working on my meal. I said that isn't what I ordered and since we've been here for well over an hour I need to get back to work and to not bother. I do not recommend. There are plenty of other places to go. read more

This is my go to happy hour place. The food is usually pretty consistent and the drinks are quite good. I often get the shishito peppers or whipped ricotta. The servings are hardy so definitely good shareable options. The happy hour menu changes, but when they're on there, the wings and fries are really good. The sauces that come with the dishes really elevate the dishes. Service can be a tad slow sometimes so you may want to order two drinks at once...lol. read more

Had a great time visiting the Co-Op for their National Beer Day collaboration event with Two Locals Brewing Company. This spot is connected to the The Study which is a great hotel for parents visiting UPenn to see their kids. Food was pretty good. Went with Rooster's Crown Pasta and an order of hush puppies. Creamy, hearty, and flavorful. I specifically came for the Two Locals collaboration. The first Black owned brewery in Philadelphia. Their Nubian Ale is delicious! Staff was excellent. We spent a ton of time chatting with the bar staff and getting the background of the Co-Op. there are some awesome folks working here. read more

Unfortunately, had a tough experience here over the weekend. To start with a positive - the ambience is really pretty and there's both indoor and outdoor eating opportunities. My friend got the Dutch baby and the blueberry compote and clotted cream were really tasty. The Dutch baby was good, but felt thicker and more dense than they usually are. My veggie toast was quite good, though different than described on the menu. I walked in and was seated right away, and they came to check on my coffee order even before my dining companions joined. The coffees, both hot and iced, were pretty decent. One of my friends wanted to get some syrup and hers and our server didn't know which ones were available and even after checking was a little bit off. Then asked for recommendations for some starters we were thinking of, and our server didn't know the descriptions of some of them. But it was once we finally decided what to order that it really went downhill. My veggie toast & my friend's Dutch baby came out at close times but my friend's fried chicken sandwich took way longer. They brought out some pastries to help which was nice, but when the sandwich finally did come out my friend took one bite and it was uncooked inside. When we told the server, he said it had happened to someone else too!!! They did comp our bill, which was a nice move, but I wouldn't recommend this place to others. read more

We went here as a big group (~20 people). We had food that was OK. My chicken was undercooked, but in general OK. When we were paying they charged us 20% gratitude as is normal for group. In addition they charged us (automatically) another 20% as gratitude. So without asking they charged us 40% gratitude. After a lot of struggle half of it came off. They claim it was an error with the cash register. I cannot recommend places that try to charge you 20% extra without explanation and when call on it put up a major struggle. 1 star for ambience and pleasant service. 0 stars for the food. I had a BLT with "thick cut bacon" that was so thick and overly cooked that it was like shoe leather. The bread (overly toasted, it cracked and fell apart in my hands) and the tomato (so scarce I had to request more) were both thinner than the bacon. And there was hardly any lettuce. The fries that came with it were undercooked, had no crisp edges and practically no flavor. Ask for a side of home fries instead; my friend's were good. I've had a couple dinners and lunches here and the food has always been decent if not good. But my 3 companions today were not happy with their food either and said they had not been impressed on previous visits. I will confine future visits to happy hours at the lovely bar and refrain from ordering food unless I see improved reviews or recommendations from trusted friends. read more

On May 22 around 430 pm, I ordered 4 meals and some apps to be sent to a family of 5 who had just suffered a terrible loss and needed help with a meal. I later found out that 3 of the 4 meals were CANCELLED without notifying me for possible substitutions. They simply delivered the food and later refunded me for the portion they didn't delivered. And since they didn't update it until later, Grubhub still took the full % tip on the order, so the got a 30% tip once the price was adjusted. So the family of FIVE was delivered 1 meal and a couple apps. This was embarrassing and really disappointing. This family needed this and Co-Op let them down!! read more
