Lynn's birthday celebration and I always try the best for her birthday. I succeeded. Although there were tourist and locals dining and enjoying themselves,this only help make my decision a right one. First of all Ales took care of us. Great care. We began with the charcuterie board. Cheese and meat all locally made. EXCELLENT. Lynn ordered the Swordfish and I ordered the northern Halibut. We asked to not rush this meal and Ales made sure it happened. Everything was delicious. Perfectly cooked. We will return to Boothbay again this summer. Revised from my previous review from two years ago: An amazing place! If your looking for something more upscale! However, very expensive! Although I knew it was going to be expensive, I just couldn't bring myself to see spend $19 for French onion soup. (Otherwise 5 stars) Sad they took away the couches & fire pits outside. It was the perfect place to relax & have a drink. Especially after a long day. Especially since we stayed in the hotel for years! However, the salads were great! The filet was amazing, cooked perfectly! Desserts where one of the best! Great wine & drink menu. Great views! Staff was great! We've been staying at their hotel for 20+ years. First strike - all their red wine is served chilled. Not just cool, cold. Food was really slow. Dragon roll was very fishy. Chopped salad was minced to nearly a puree. Servers were scrambling to make up for lame policy and bad food and slow service. But to reiterate, Paul's policy is that all red wine is cold. read more

Ate there 9/10/23 and it was outstanding. One of the best meals we've had in our 70+ years on earth. We made a reservation and I think that got us what we think is the best table in the place. Inside, next to the glass on the far right. Service was exceptional and upscale as expected. Filet ($58!) was cooked to perfection with just the right amount of seasoning on it. My wife had the duck ($42) and it was exceptional too. As good as they were, the best thing we had was the creamed corn! We've never had anything like it and it complemented the main course nicely. One of the best wine menus I've seen in a very long time with some exceptional wines (Chateau Kirwan!) We had a nice St Emilion Merlot/CabFranc blend wine that was reasonably priced at $75. The manager even brought a wine decanter so we could let it sit for a while. Other reviewers were right about it being expensive. Our bill without dessert was $240 but we thought that was fair for such an exceptional experience. read more

Coastal Prime is a special spot for dining on a magnificent patio overlooking the Boothbay Harbor. One can even pull up and dock a boat! The food is not cheap but it's top quality and the staff is friendly. I would like to give special thanks to Mike T and Valeria for all their perfect advice on the menu. The location is second to none! Such pleasant views right on the water. Large outside deck. Friendly staff. Very slow service. Giving them the benefit of the doubt as it was a change in staff - we waited approximately 15 minutes before even given a glass of wate. We had expectations of excellent food since we had a previously dined at Paul's at the country club. The food was subpar in every way. Leaving here with a stomachache. The lobster stew had over cooked chunks of lobster and the most bland broth I've ever had in the state of Maine. My dining partner ordered fish and chips, pretty simple. Requested catsup twice for the french fries but never received it. I'm not sure I can recommend this place. Very sad because it's an outstanding location. read more

I just held my wedding reception at Coastal Prime this past weekend. It was a non traditional cocktail style reception held in the afternoon. It was supposed to be outdoors on the front deck but Mother Nature had other plans. Even though it was a full on downpour annd all plans had to be changed just days before, it was spectacular. The event staff went above and beyond to make our reception better than I could have imagined. They were attentive, accommodating, and the food was superb. I've been to so many weddings where the food was passable as mediocre and this was anything but. My guests couldn't stop talking about how amazing the food was, from the shrimp cocktail, oysters, lobster rolls, and crab cakes to the nachos, sliders, and chicken tenders. Unfortunately, I didn't get to try any of the desserts but I heard they exceeded all expectations. I couldn't be happier! read more

The 2 stars are for the great view. This review is only for my most recent visit to Prime, my previous 2 visits were great. Last night was our third visit to Prime and based on our previous experiences we were really looking forward to it. We've owned a summer home in the area for 21 years and have been bringing the family here every year during that time. Our now grown 3 children joined us once again this year so we wanted a special night out one evening and Prime was our choice. We arrived for our 7:00 reservation 5 minutes early and were seated at our table on the deck, the view is spectacular, especially during sunset. It took a little while for the waiter to take our drinks and appetizers order, things seemed to be a little slow from the start. Finally by 7:50 the waiter took our meals order and that's the last we saw of him until 8:25. Our waiter never once returned to our table to pour our wine or ask if we need anything, and when he finally did show up at 8:25 all he said was "sorry, but we have a group of 20 in the house". Well frankly, that's not my problem, and our group of 5 shouldn't suffer poor service because of it! Our meals finally arrived at 8:40, a full 50 minutes after we ordered. I could tell by my sons face his NY strip wasn't done to his liking. He ordered it medium, it arrived closer to rare on the inside but burnt on the outside, he only ate half of it. My daughter's Spinach Agnolotti was Luke warm. I usually have a steak here, but tonight I decided on the Haddock, which was cooked nicely, but just bland. My wife and youngest daughter had Sushi and they both said it was delicious, so a win for Prime there. By the time we all finished it was now 9:00, 2 hours after our seating and the waiter brings the dessert menu... no thanks we didn't have another hour to spare. I wanted to leave a 10% tip but my wife who's a top executive in the foodservice industry wouldn't allow me to leave less than 15%. All in all not a good experience and it will be a while before we try Prime again any time soon. Edit: I was contacted by Coastal Prime management only a few hours after I submitted this post. They were apologetic and genuinely concerned about our experience. That is the sign of a quality establishment. I'll be back in the Fall and plan on giving Prime another shot at that time. read more

A nice, expansive menu ranging from sandwiches and burgers on the bar menu to sushi and raw oysters to beautiful steaks, lamb, and seafood. Between the four of us, we ate 15 different menu items plus cocktails and wine. EVERYTHING was fabulous. It was a special evening for my group and Coastal Prime was the perfect setting. If i could be more specific, my rating would be a 3.75... but alas... I went with my boyfriend for a romantic dinner during our stay in Boothbay. We were looking for something nicer with a great view. We were seated on the deck and got to enjoy our meal during the sunset- really nice! The view over the water was my favorite part. Our second visit to Coastal Prime was a hit. Upon entering, we were seated to our requested window table. If possible, this is the table you want, as it has nice views of Boothbay Harbor. Outdoor dining is available. We ordered a house salad ,which we split- a good thing, since the initial portion was large. We ordered the grilled swordfish and the "champagne lobster" which was lobster chunks served on a bed of angel hair pasta, in a champagne cream sauce. I did not sample the fish but my wife loved it. The champagne lobster was simply divine! The chunks of lobster perfectly cooked, as was the pasta. We had desserts- mine a blueberry crisp, hers a dessert cookie. Their wine list has many good choices. This indulgence is pricey, but this is clearly a restaurant where diners can go for special occasions. read more

We stayed at the inn and could not resist eating at Coastal Prime. The open air restaurant concept is wonderful and not to be missed be it for dinner, apps or just drinks. There is a formal in/outside area which will need reservations, but a whole bar and outside seating for drop-in dining. We sat in this area and the full menu is available wherever you sit. If you are downtown, it's only a footbridge away from the bustle. The view can.t be beat. Fire pit and warming heaters are available as well. We had the 1.5 lb lobster and roasted potatoes for $39. We added a side of roasted corn, red pepper and cheese risotto (the best I've ever had). Meals run $26-42 but sides are ala Carte but believe they are large enough to share. The bar and drink selection are a cut above as well. Manager was around to ensure customers where happy and well served. I believe the place had a resent rehab. read more

We had reservations which we were on time for. We were seated and waited approximately 25 minutes before a server came to greet us. She took our drink order. I had one of your signature cocktails, my husband had a glass of wine. We ordered 2 soups, one clam chowder, one lobster stew. My husband was not feeling very hungry so he ordered the crab cake appetizer and ordered a common plate of sushi. Our bread came out 10-15 minutes after our drinks. I have had better chowders out of a can, but Inunderstandvthat taste is a matter of preference though the clams, , when I found one was like eating a Swedish Fish. None of this would have been written if it wasn't for one incident and the difference between the dinner we were served last might and the one we were served this evening at a different restaurant. When your server brought out the chowder and the stew, she tipped the stew owl at an angle. It dripped a over my handbag and about 1/3 of the broth fell to the floor. I cleaned up my handbag by the time she returned with a napkin. She apologized but said nothing about bringing out a different now. My husband loved the stew but when I pay an outrageous bill of $155.00 for two soups, one clam cake appetizer, one cocktail, two classes of wine and a combo of common sushi, I really would have thought a full bowl of stew was in order. I watched as the other male waiter worked three tables with impeccable service, agility and timeliness. Our dinner lasted nearly 2 hours. I wanted to let you know we won't be recommending your restaurant. In a time of a pandemic, I would think you would want returning customers. For practically the same dinner this evening we paid just about 1/2 your bill and had amazing service. With that kind of competition, Ineould think you would step up your game. read more

The view and the service was wonderful... but the food was to die for! We had a WONDERFUL time. The staff was helpful, informative, and welcoming. We started with the shrimp cocktail and the "avacado bomb", which actually would've been enough to eat for dinner. It was a very large portion for 2 people to share, however it would be great for 4 or so people. For our entree, we both ordered lobster and a side. The food was definitely pricey. We both ordered the poached lobster (4 oz) that did not come with sides. The sides were about $10-$15 dollars each, which is worth noting. However, the price was worth it! We had a wonderful experience, and we would definitely recommend eating at Coastal Prime. read more

The owner of our bed and breakfast suggested we come here for dinner on a sunny evening. It was quite chilly but there were ample space heaters and blankets available to keep us warm while we enjoyed a wonderful dinner with great service from Mike. My husband started with some oysters while I enjoyed the clam chowder. The fish tacos were amazing as my husband also enjoyed fish and chips. We shared the brussels sprouts that are a must have for a side. Beautiful way to spend the evening in Boothbay Harbor. Highly recommend coastal prime. read more

OMG....stayed at Boothside Oceanview for five days and went downstairs to Coastal Prine everyday for snacks and cocktails! All due to Mike and especially Tyler our bartender/ waiter! He is absolutely the best ever! We felt like royalty the whole time. Have never had anyone up so far over and beyond to ensure we had our favorite drinks, especially my non alcoholic beer! Mine was awesome as well ensuring we always had our favorite table! But I hope Tyler is back next year as based on the service we'll be back next year and would never consider any other lodging! Stopped in for lunch outside on the deck on a breezy day. Was greeted with blankets - that's a first! I had the turkey sandwich, which was soooo good! The blueberry mayo was just the right amount of sweetness. Hubby had the lobster roll (served warm, with butter) and unfortunately the lobster was chewy. Mediocre food at sky high prices. When we made our reservation the earliest seating was at 8:30, but when we arrived, the restaurant was three quarters empty, so they obviously could have seated us sooner. The menu was uninspiring and the prices were VERY high! The bread was not good, I only ate one bite. I ordered champagne lobster with caviar. The pasta was overcooked, the "champagne" sauce was bland and tasted like something from a cheap chain restaurant. The "caviar" was some black tasteless dots in the pasta. The lobster was delicious, and was the only thing I ate. My spouse's lobster stew was quite good, but his crab cakes were burned on the bottom. The valet attendant was very rude. He didn't want to stop looking at his phone long enough to take our car. When we went to leave, he was gone. We went into the hotel's lobby looking for him, and the desk clerk said the valet was getting someone's car - but we were the only ones there. He finally came out of the hotel and said he had been in the bathroom. He didn't retrieve our car, he just handed us the keys and pointed to the handicapped spot several yards away. He parked our car in a handicapped space!! We could have gotten a huge fine! Do not go to this restaurant! read more

My wife and I come to Boothbay about once a year, we've seen this location change names/owners a few times the last few trips but so far Coastal Prime has been the best. The whole staff did a great job following Covid protocols. They took our temperature as we arrived and all staff were wearing masks the whole time. Outdoor dining with a beautiful view of the harbor, but you're not just paying for the view....the food was very good. I had the Clam Chowder to start and it was very tasty with lots of flavor, throw in some bacon and BAM! Great start! For dinner I had the Filet Mignon which was cooked perfectly and tasted great, I added a side of Parmesan Risotto and that was amazing. My wife had the Roasted Chicken with a side of Whipped Potatoes, both were great. We shared the Cookie Skillet for dessert and it was fantastic! Our server Mike T was awesome!! Very knowledgeable, friendly, made some great recommendations as well as told what flavors we should be getting with each dish, that's a pro right there. Do not go to this restaurant! I live in the Boothbay Harbor area . I made a reservation which is easy to do on resy. I made the reservation for outside one week before we were supposed to arrive. I was having friends visit. The day of the reservation it was going to rain so I called early in the am and switched the reservation to inside. The women on the phone was very nice and discussed with me at length where in the inside I would sit. When I arrived they could no longer find my reservation. Apparently in switching from outside to inside they had deleted it. Even though I showed the original resy reservation they refused to accommodate me. In front of my party the young women said her manager said too bad. The manager did not even come out to talk to us or to offer us anything else. She just passed on the message to the desk teenager who told us that this had been happening all week. She was sorry but the app was deleting reservations if they were changed. We left and spent several hundred dollars at a neighboring restaurant and will never come here again and would tell everyone else not to come here. No food is good enough to have workers treat you with this little respect. They clearly do not want customers business. As we left the valet apologized and told us this had been happening all week and the owners didn't give a 'crap'. DONT COME HERE. They are nasty and mean. read more
