But what started as a "drink from the well of good and don't feed on the influencers of the devil" turned into a soap box rant about politics, the evils of being gay, etc. He bashed governors from certain states and spoke favorably about governors of others. He bashed democratic beliefs, and favored republican. He completely contradicted what he was trying to have his message be about. It was extremely uncomfortable and I'm not surprised many people walked out during his sermon. Christ said "My table is set for all," not "My table is set for everyone except...." I cannot believe the leader of the church would spew such hatred to people who come needing to be filled with the loving, powerful, forgiving word of God. What they ended up getting was someone using the Bible as a weapon. Their paster, a person called to be Shepard is nothing other than a wolf. The congregation, normally shouting and cheering during the message was silent, and he even cracked a joke saying the room was full of Lutherans. Now he's making fun of other Christians? I was waiting for him to go into an angry rant about the evils of tattoos and body piercings, but I think he may be saving that for another sermon down the road. Overall, unprofessional and absolutely NOT what a church should do. Our family actually left angry and we had a long discussion with the kids after about how he spoke from anger and not the truth. Do not recommend at all. I'd be surprised if anyone goes next week at all. It was that bad.

When I decided it was time for me to come back in 2014, I attended the church and the experience was quite different for me. The staff of the church wasn't as friendly as I had experienced at first, I even decided to attend the newcomers church program in December and discovered that this church doesn't welcome all kinds of people. I was rather placed in a rude position with one of the ushers or pastors when I told him that I church hop, he wasn't very nice about it and he made a very rude comment about it. Hint here: Every church worshipper, church hops when they don't even know it, I mean everyone does it, I bet you don't attend the same church you grew up in, now do you. After that encounter, I left the first day of the newcomers class and didn't return to the church until 2015, which I thought maybe could change my mind. I was coming for the Hindu religions class that one of the speakers was a professor from a local university, the class was very interesting, but the people of this church didn't treat me well and I often felt like an outcast, like I didn't belong, and it made me feel very uncomfortable. Even after church service, where everyone would meet in this large community room, I always felt uncomfortable, it could be since although everyone is nice, but you can easily tell when the majority Caucasian population is being treated sweeter than the minorities. I always received stares when I walked into the church and it just made me uneasy so I've stopped attending the church. This church has left a bad taste in my mouth and I can't say I will be back. Although, the community garden is still cool, but I won't be viewing it anymore. When you first attend this church, you feel as if it accepts all kinds, but once you get into the system of things, you will easily watch how people true colors come out and reveal what they really are about. That's what I experienced and it was definitely a horrific one.

A couple friends of mine suggested that I try attending the morning service here, and I decided to give it a shot. I felt a ton of love from the moment that I first stepped into the building. I was greeted with smiles and handshakes from several church members. It felt like a true community where you could find not only believers but friends as well. The sanctuary is big enough that you don't feel cramped but small enough to also feel warm and inviting. Pastor Tre never fails to deliver an impactful and timely sermon. He won't always tell you what you want to hear, but he will tell you what you need to hear. And it'll definitely be from the heart and filled with the Holy Spirit. The praise and worship team is awesome and ministers in a very organic and compelling way. Another plus is that many young adults attend service here. As a millennial, that's always a good sign for me because it means that young people feel safe and respected inside those walls. That's not something that a lot of churches can brag about. Although I go back home to Houston to attend church with my mother on most Sundays, I'm glad to know that I have a place to fellowship with Christians whenever I spend a Sunday in Galveston!
