I was very disappointed in the staff, my husband and I asked for the Lunch Pork Roast but the waitress said " there was not a lunch menu" in a very disinterested way. She told us to order off the menu on the table even though it was advertised outside. The service was super slow. I asked for my pork roast without gravy and I'd course it was smoothed in it. I really wanted to ask for another drink, but no one check on us and only a few people in the place. The waitress did not want to be bothered. As I paid at the counter, I asked about the lunch special and the girl said "didn't you get the menu?" I said "no I did not, but I inquiry about it and the girl had no idea what I was talking about? Maybe it was my accent? Anyway when I checked out the manager wasn't going to do a thing about it! I'm not in USA anymore and I had to just let it go! Be cautious about this restaurant, there are many better choices out there such as the Prime Roast which was super good and half the price and it's a take way bar. Super slow. Kinda dirty. Food was very mediocre. Asked for water. None. Asked again. None. Insisted, got three glasses for four of us and a 20 oz bottle. I'm thirsty thinking about it. On checkout there was a surprise 2% surcharge for visa. Nice touch. We must have walked past a half dozen places I wish I would have gone to instead. One last beef. I'm not one to bitch about price. But this one was $120nz for an app, a burger, and two kids meals. I've enjoyed better meals with a full bottle of wine for less. And no stupid visa surcharge. read more

My sister and I were tired and hungry and I had wanted to try this place out. The coconut curry chicken was really good but they had warned me it would take 20 minutes or so to cook the chicken. I also had their pavlova and it was sooo good! Tips for Americans, you have to pay at the register in NZ. majority of restaurants don't bring you the bill or if they do, you still have to go and pay at the register. Ps tipping isn't customary or expected in NZ. Of course if one does an exceptional job or you're pleased by all means tip. but it's not expected. This is a good family chain restaurant. Come one, come all. It's mostly a family affair, no small/large/sharing plates - just a slightly modernised version of the family restaurant all kiwis knew well. 4.5/5 Aesthetics  Passing through Taupo back home from our Christmas summer trip, it was exciting to see a Cobb & Co again after losing the ones we did have in Wellington/Petone. It's been more than a decade and a half since the last time I've been to one, so it we decided to go this one just like old times. The place itself was quite reminiscent of good old Cobb & Co. complete with booths, kids section (arcade included) and little old fish tank. It was just a little bit dark where we were sitting, but not bad or hindering in anyway. 4.5/5 Food I don't really have any recollection of what the food used to be like at Cobb & Co (though most likely I was ordering off the kids menu back then instead of the regular menu as now). The Sirloin Steak I ordered was definitely on the higher end of the quality of steaks I've ordered and went very nicely with it's chips and salad sides. My parents also really enjoy their own steak and soup respectively and found the quality of their meals also on the high end. The pavlova was nice, but okay. A little bit too expensive for what I ordered, but still tasted good. Of course I had to relive my childhood and order a Traffic Light. Couldn't remember if it was a liquid drink or a slushy like I had gotten, but I very much enjoyed having a slushy traffic light - tasted great! They now offer the X-rated Traffic Light which is an "alcoholic version of your childhood" which I didn't get to try, but definitely looking forward to the next time I pass by. 5/5 Experience Overall the experience was great! While originally dropping by for nostalgia purposes, we really had a great time. The staff / waiters were really friendly and nice and made sure to check on us every so often. This place is awesome for the decor to the friendly staff and menu. I had the pork ribs, cooked to perfection and tasty. I would highly recommend a stop here for a meal or even a ice cold beer, the Heineken on tap is sublime. Enjoy. read more

Two of us for dinner but we're told no two seat tables available, only four seat tables, they would rather have a possible four people than a definite two... place wasn't busy and there were plenty of seats when we went past after we found somewhere else to eat...customer service is not important for them apparently read more

We found this restaurant good enough. We flew in from Auckland this morning and our hotel room was not ready so we walked into town. There were not many restaurants open for lunch yet so we opted for this one. I had the chicken breast sandwich and my husband had a burger. They were both good. I did not care for the fries. This was the least friendly place we have been to since we arrived in New Zealand. The staff was not attentive and seemed annoyed that we didn't know if we were paying with a credit card we needed to go inside. How would we know? Driving quickly through Taupo, we wanted a fast and delish dinner for us and the kids. We were warned that there was a 45 min wait for mains, but kids meals and entrees would come out fast. So we thought we would give it a try. Yes, kids meals came out fast.. (Burger and fish and chips). Amazingly.. Adult burgers are considered harder to cook because the portions are bigger.. So they would have taken 45 minutes. As would most everything on the menu. Understandable if the restaurant was packed.. But it was 1/3 full. Sigh. So we ordered starter scallops and two side salads. Scallops were small and tasted a bit funny. One of the waiters came and cleared them when we were only half-finished.. Not that we had asked him to, but we weren't going to finish anyway. Side salads came and were.. Well.. Fine, but nothing to write home about. We decided to leave, so we went to pay. When the cashier asked how everything was my wife said "do you want an honest review?" She said yes please, and immediately took off the cost of our meals, so we only had to pay for the kids food. Very happy she responded so well to the cinema structure feedback. 1 star for the kids meals, 5 stars for her response to the feedback.. But since NZ is full of amazing places to eat, this place is on the bottom of my list. read more
