Cober Hill, which can be found just off the main Scarborough-Whitby road in a village called Cloughton, is predominantly run as a conference venue, although it also doubles as a guest house.
Its location is superb - right on the cliff top, with views over the coast to Scarborough and up to Robin Hoods Bay. Its an old manor house, and the interior reflects an olde worlde theme, and is tastefully decorated, if a little tired and old fashioned, on the inside.
The conference facilities are ok - if you're used to the big hotels and the professionalism they offer, then you may be a little disappointed. The staff look after you, but its not quite the same as you may be used to if you regularly use inner city places for business. Cober Hill has at least, finally gone up to date and begun to provide wifi faciliies. They can accomodate up to 100 delegates in the main hall, and up to 50 in the largest conference room.
If you're visiting individually, then its a good place to stay and use as a base to explore the North York Moors and surrounding area. Rooms are comfortable (if again, a little tired) and the breakfasts are very nice.
Tariffs, especially for non conference travellers, are actually very reasonable - less than half what you'd pay at Raven Hall, five miles up the road.
