Coconut's Fish Cafe is one of the best restaurants we have had while traveling. Calamari - tender, lightly breaded (very crispy) strips with cocktail sauce. This is a must have. Coconut Shrimp - lightly coated succulent shrimps. Other variations we have had have typically been heavy with breading with shriveled up shrimp. Also a must have! Mochiko Chicken - this was our least favorite, but I do think that this would be amazing for those who like dark meat (not I). I knew this woukd be dark meat, but I still wanted to give it a try. It reminds me of chicken karaage, and i had also spritz some lemon. I do appreciate that the meat is juicy and not fatty or gristly, so it is evident that they use high quality chicken. Grilled Ono - this one knocked our socks off. Texture of a tuna steak - yet flaky, tender, and juicy! Well reasoned, and not salty at all. And the rice ir comes with... holy crap I have never had rice this good. It seems like it is just plain white rice of some kind, but wow! Very friendly staff, attentive, and swift!
I stopped by here 2 nights ago with my father for dinner. While I have been to Coconuts Fish Cafe before, this was my first time at the Kamaole location and my dad's first visit to any. When we arrived, there was a decent sized line out the door and it took around 20 minutes before we could place our order. Just like at other Coconuts locations, you place your order, take your number, and find an empty table and they will bring the food to you. This location had surfboard style tables, interesting light covers that looked like seashells, and a bunch of pictures on the walls including some retro Maui prints like the Iao Needle and Big Beach. For dinner on this evening I decided to go with the calamari and chips while my dad went with the fish and chips. Our food came out within a reasonable amount of time and looked good. My calamari, which is fried calamari steaks, was good as it was cooked nicely with a crunchy exterior and soft interior. The same could be said for the fries. There were a ton of them and they were seasoned well. My father also enjoyed his fish and when I took a bite I could see why as it was breaded nicely and had a great flavor. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. My calamari and chips were good and exactly what I would expect from Coconuts, and I would love to try more of the menu as well.
Overall I really enjoyed this spot! It's a little hidden and out of the way but the food was amazing! I had the fish and chip and my boyfriend had the coconut shrimp and we both liked each other's meals better than our own. Overall I rate this a 10/10! The service was amazing! Everyone was very patient and gave amazing recommendations! The aloha maid was not very sweet at all. Which I was surprised. I liked the taste but the flavors were very light. The ambiance in the restaurant was nice too. Seems like a lot of families go here but overall a 10/10
The best thing was hands down the ahi steak. I couldn't decide between the fish and chips and coconut shrimp, so I got both! The fish won, but both were tasty. It's an interesting breading for fish and chips but was really tasty. I like the environment and how big the place is. Definitely a great staple if you're craving fish
It's a cute cafe with a very casual ambiance. It is open "late" for Maui standards so it's great to come here to eat after a flight since most places close at 8... The staff are friendly, and never had issues here! I like the mahi mahi sandwich or the mahi mahi plate that comes with coleslaw and rice. There's also $3 coconut shrimp if you come in during happy hour which is a nice perk, their coconut shrimp is delicious
Ordered take out tonight. We got the shoyu poke, coconut shrimp, and poke nachos. Do not order the poke nachos. There is barely any poke on the yellow won ton wrappers. You would be better off going to foodland and making your own poke bowls and poke nachos. The coconut shrimp had okay flavor. DoorDash driver was kind.
This was our 4th visit, 2 in 2017, 1 in 2021 and one in 2026. Fish tacos are always good but I got the mahi mahi local plate with rice and slaw and it was excellent. We were shocked that beer and wine were only $3 from 7:30PM to 830 PM tonight. Order and pay up front and they give you a number on a stick. Choose any table and get your own water condiments, napkins and silverware. Food comes quickly. We ordered onion rings and they were excellent but enough for 4 people and the other food was very filling so it was too much. The best cheap dinner on the strip. Service is fast and efficient and the food arrived quickly but perhaps it was because we were there after rush hours. We will likely come back next week.
This place is a must to try when in Maui. It offers such a great variety of local favorites at a reasonable price. Dishes are big so you can even share them. Place is big, clean, has lots of tables and beach decor all throughout. Busy hours are slammed packed until around 130pm wnd maybe rush hour at night between 530pm-7pm. We arrived at 245pm and we were able to order super fast. Customer service is always A+ when we come here. Ambiance is relax beach style. We ordered a Keiki (kids) fish n chips, Macademia Crust Mahi Mahi and a Seared Tuna Salad. Great portions for the great price. Good place if you come with a big family or in group due to the pricing. Definitely stop by here for the Island Tast
I came here because they had so many reviews on yelp. We got their fish taco, cajun shrimp taco, and pablo crusted onion rings. Both tacos were really good and I loved how crispy the onion rings were. The restaurant is on the 2nd floor and pretty spacious. I loved the interior inside of the restaurant. I'll definitely be back!!
We went here for dinner. All of our food was delicious. We ordered the fish tacos, coconut shrimp, mac salad and fish n chips. Everything was great. The person who took our order was very knowledgeable and gave us some recommendations. The ambiance is a chill place. We got there around 5:00, right before the dinner rush. If you are looking for some good food, check this place out.

Came here for a small bite since we had a luau later. Got an order of the coconut shrimp and the fish tacos. I'm not an expert on coconut shrimp, but these seemed to be so well done. Not too much batter, lots of coconut, and moist shrimp. It felt like I was eating coconut shrimp and not coconut batter shrimp. The fish tacos are pretty large and can be a bit messy. We ordered tacos, poke bowls, coconut shrimp, poke nachos and Mochiko Chicken to go, and brought the food back to our Airbnb just 2 minutes away. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing across the board. First, there's a mandatory 15% service charge added to any order over $100 -- even for takeout. That caught us off guard and felt excessive for a to-go meal. As for the food: the ahi in the poke bowl didn't taste fresh, the Mochiko Chicken was extremely dry, and the fries were already stale by the time we got back (which was a very short trip). For the price we paid, the quality simply wasn't there. We left feeling that the meal was not worth the cost. If you're craving poke, I'd recommend going to Foodland instead -- better quality at a more reasonable price. Sadly, this felt like a waste of money. read more

So so yummy! The place is clean, the food was delivered quickly, and it was all delish. We ordered the Poke Nachos (with spicy sauce), Coconut Shrimp, Kalua Pork Plate, and Cajun Shrimp Tacos. We LOVED the nachos and coconut shrimp. The kalua pork was delicious as well. The Cajun shrimp tacos were very good, but not my favorite compared to the other dishes. Run-of-the-mill, vanilla 'island' food. The type of place you go if you haven't had good Hawaiian food or seafood so you wouldn't know what you're missing. Interior is nice, and there is room for groups. You can eat inside or outside (which is just along the 2nd level of the shopping center). We got the coconut shrimp and fish tacos. The coconut shrimp was warm and crunchy, and good with the sauce but the fries were overly salty. The coleslaw was just cabbage with a mayo sauce, completely void of flavor. The fish tacos were lackluster with flimsy (store bought tasting) tortillas, and the fish wasn't worth the time. Overall, we regretted spending money here. Oh my gosh I haven't been to Coconut's in forever and I've never been to this location, I almost forgot it was there. This location is upstairs and it's huge with both indoor and outdoor seating. We came just about opening time on a Sunday and our food came out super quick. Before we knew it the entire indoor dining area was full. Opted for my tried and true Fish Tacos $20 which were so heavy and overflowing. Just as delicious as I remembered and I feel were worth the price. Also something I tried was the Volcano Fries $12 for a big shareable basket. Definitely heavy on the sriracha but still delicious. Paired perfectly with the cooling coleslaw and mango salsa in the fish tacos. I had a great experience. The cashier was friendly and the restaurant had a good breeze flowing. I also appreciated that it was tidy and clean. You can help yourself to water and soft drinks as well as any additional sauces such as tabasco, cholula and a house made sweet and spicy sauce. If you don't feel like dining in or waiting, you can order online for takeout or delivery. read more

You walk in and are greeted with a friendly face and an aloha. They were great about my dairy allergy and even commented on my Flash wallet (I'm a big comic book nerd). Our meal was delicious. The fish n chips were excellent with the fish not being beer battered, but more of a bread batter. My wife had the Kalua pork tacos which were a favorite this trip. I had a chicken salad with Cajun spice that felt healthy. Inside is really clean with a soda fountain and there is also outdoor seating to take in the Hawaiian air. They bus your table so don't need to worry about taking your dirty plates inside which is also convenient. Would highly recommend and will be back! read more

Hands down the worst coleslaw and fish taco I've ever had. Came in on a Friday afternoon when it was quiet and was greated quickly. Staff was friendly and quick to take our order. Food came out quick... perhaps too quick. Fish and chips were nice, greasy but not too greasy. Fries are standard shoestring, cooked and salted nicelu. Taco salad with fish was decent but nothing special. Came here forever the fish tacos and slaw... two of my favorite things. Came out looking great, chunky slaw which is fun since it ensures a good crunch. I was confused why it came out on two separate plates. Immediately noticed the two tortillas were stuck together and unable to separate, so not cooked correctly but oh well on big taco is okay. Upon the first bite it was clear the kitchen isn't keeping the slaw temp safe. The slaw was rancid and warm, not just from the cooked fish beneath. Separate pieces of cabbage that had fallen out were also warm and rancid. At least the staff refunded it since it was inedible. Coconut's Fish Cafe came up in a quick search as one of the best fish tacos in the area while we were visiting Maui. Turns out, there's a good reason why! We came in May and were told by the waitress that we came during a down time so we got lucky that we didn't have to wait in a line out the door. This was good because we were hungry You order and pay for your food at the entrance then are given a number for your table. Your waitress then delivers your order and gives you some info about the place. In this instance we found out that the fish tacos have 17 different ingredients on them to ensure you get a plethora of flavors and textures. Additionally, they are always meant to be eaten with your hands and never a fork, lol! The only reason I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 is because I wanted to add a cheese quesadilla to my order and they refused, stating that they would not serve it to me because I was not under 10 years old.
