The Real Ale Trail, The Beer Train, The Great Yorkshire Burp Fest or Angelina Vs The Hop...whatever…read moreyou call it it is a CRACKING way to spend the day hopping from pub to train to pub to train from Staybridge to Leeds with every stop a pint winner on the way. But then it happens, with a dawning realisation and not a little horror you discover that you are 3 sheets to the wind and your body cannot sustain you a moment longer on naught but beer and Scampie Fries. You need to eat. You need to MEAT. We decided Huddersfield would do just spanky, having as I recalled an Argentinian Steak House. Yes I was drunk and yes it is in fact a Brazilian Grill, a la Fazenda but waaaay smaller, no salad bar and about a tenner cheaper. But! The comparison is unfair. Fazenda (or 'Home' as I like to call it) is a huge, slick, cosmopolitan arrangement with more accoutrements than you can shake your rapidly hardening meat stick at. Botafogo is a teeny tiny one room affair with, I suspect, no more than 30 covers. You're going to need to book. Or alternatively you can stagger in stinking of Black Sheep, get told there's no room and then look at the owner with huge sad lambykittenpup eyes filling with sad tears until he relents and tells you he will try and squeeze you in if you come back in an hour. I recommend lots of mascara for a truly devastating effect if you find yourself in this position. One more pub and a zigzaggy walk later and we were enjoying free drinks whilst we waited for a table to clear. There were lots of apologies for the 20 or so minutes we had to sit, but the free drinks and homely atmosphere made this no problem whatsoever. Just like Fazenda you order your drink, pick some sides if you want them (fries and nibbles come free) and then sit back as the dripping meat skewers wend their way toward you, heavy with mindblowingly succulent flesh. We gorged, drank red wine, gorged some more, I was poleaxed and dropped a huge bowl of herby oil dressing all over Chris, they cleaned Chris up, Chris ate for almost an hour solid and then declared he didn't eat late at night and couldn't finish (I stress he had been stuffing his face for an hour at this point), we all laughed, 3 of us gorged some more and we were utterly sated. Well done Botafogo, you handled us so so well. A gorgeous, friendly, low key, well run, well staffed and sublimely well catered restaurant that deserves to become a landmark for Huddersfield. I thoroughly recommend the short train journey out of Leeds to give Botafogo the support it deserves. For Ade and I paying together plus a really nice bottle of wine was a very reasonable £54, without the wine you are looking at less than £20 a person- so get thee down there and wrap thy gums around some good meat! And remember, all life is sacred. Unless it is delicious.

Ate at this restaurant three days ago. It is the first Brazilian steak house I had eaten outside…read morethe United States and it certainly did a good job of showing me that Brazilian steak houses don't need to break the bank. It was a great price and they had a nice selection of meats. Most of the meets where very well grilled and spiced perfectly. I ate my self into a coma and honestly my meal with a full salad bar and two glasses of wine only came down to about 33 pounds. The interior was nicely intimate and warm with a nice compliment of colorful furniture. If you end up in this small town I definitely suggest that this is a place to have one of your meals or your only meal

What a mistake that was, i only wish i had read the reviews beforehand as our experience basically mirrored what other people said in their reviews. When we entered the restaurant, we were seated virtually straight away at a window corner table, there were 5 chairs to the table but virtually a third of the table was pushed in to the corner so unusable, we decided to pull it out slightly and move a chair to make more room. people were then seated to the back of us and to the right of us and essentially, we were all rubbing seat backs, not very good at all. we ordered then went to salad bar and before we had even finished the salad which was maybe 5 minutes from ordering, the food then arrived, how on earth could it all have been cooked fresh in 5 minutes! it couldn't have! of which I'll explain later... when the food arrived there looked to be less than our previous visit and looking at the menu of what you get for an extra £17 approximately, is half of a barbeque starter which that in itself is only about £11.50.. so what an absolute con!!! wouldn't have been so bad if you had extra curry. but maybe that wasn't a bad thing at all as the night went on!! regarding the food the curry was ok but not as good as last time and the chops and chicken wings were black and burnt, plus they were so small hardly any meat on them at all. another thing that was off putting was a waiter stood there staring at you, soon as you were finished, they swooped in and cleared the table. When we left, we went for a walk around the park, I didn't feel right at all, my partner was ok as she only really had a little bit of the curry and a bit of salad. we all went our separate ways and i got a phone call the following morning from one of the friends who went out with us, asking me if I was ok. I wasn't, I had been up half the night backwards and forward to the toilet, it also transpired so had my two friends! we went on Saturday evening, today is Monday and he is still suffering. Our guess is that some off the food was precooked and then reheated hence the super quick time it was brought to our table. so never again, Kabana needs to up there game and look after their customers... oh and another thing... for what you pay the portions are really not worth it.

This is another gem. Frequented by lots of Asian people which speaks volumes alone I'd recommend the fish masala and daigi dishes ... Second time here for a late night curry ... Huddersfield sleeps at night it seems lol Nowhere else ?!?! But a great find anyway :-)

All you can eat buffet on all night on a Friday / no a la carte? come on this was fine dining Indian style lovely cosy decor, great service, illegal immigrants in the kitchen (best chefs - their cooking is so focused when they know they are only 1 bhaji away from being deported at gunpont) After coming here on and off since 1981 this will probably be the last. Modern Indians like Zouk in Bradford & Manchester are the benchmark in 2009 that all these places should be looking up to to help bring their restaurants forward. Amen.

Absolutely appauling…read more We went here last year and found the Korma to be a bit 'tangy' so we think perhaps the cream was a bit off. Anyway, 1 year later and we thought we would give it another go and see what happens, and we can deffinately say that there shall be no 3rd chance for this 'resturant'. My husband and I went here for our lunch about 2 weeks ago and and before I sat down, I went to the toilets. My tip is, ALWAYS check the toilets first, we learnt in food hygiene courses to do this, because if they haven't cleaned the toilets then you can just imagine what the kitchen is like, but also because the chefs need to go in and out of the kitchen and toilets so they will be bringing back germs to the kitchens. The toilets were disgusting! Considering that they had only just opened for the lunch rush you'd assume that the place would have been properly cleaned - NOPE. As soon as you walk in you are greeted by a disgusting and unknown smell and right infront of you you can see the toilets, underneath the toilet lids you could see the splashback from people flushing the chains. The floors were sticky too. I was ready to walk out there and then and I wish I had, but my husband had already ordered for us. It's a buffet, but they make you up a starter and this had been ordered so we stayed. The starter was 1 lump of chicken, some weird star shaped 'thing' and then the cabbage and tomatoe salad. Well, the cabbage was obviously from the day before, it had all be chopped up and every peice was browning, the tomatoes had no moisture at all and seeing as this place had only just opened and would have been making their foods etc, the popadoms were stale. Still, we stayed :/ We then went up to help ourselves to the buffet of different dishes and rices. The rices were only JUST warm and very rubbery, and the Korma was a weird yellow/orange colour and looked like the jar Korma stuff that Iceland produces. Most of the Korma in the catering/heating dishes mainly contained sauce, it was difficult to pick out the chicken, My husband then took a bite out of the chicken and spat it back out as it was stone cold. We refused to pay the entire amount, but as we ate the starter, we did pay for that. Absolutely disgusting, and also reported to the environmental health. The lady next to us had complained to her friend that something she was eating was RAW, so that's not very good either. Never again. Stay clear!

We visited this gem of a place twice in a week…read more The restaurant falls into four areas. You enter into the lounge/bar area, perfect for meeting up with friends and having a drink before settling in for your meal. To the left is the tea room and to the right is the restaurant. There is also an outdoor patio, perfect for a drink and chat whilst waiting for your meal to be prepared. On our first visit we had the afternoon tea, I had the Gentleman's afternoon tea and my wife had the regular. It was everything you could wish for, wonderfully presented in a light, airy and beautifully themed tea room. The star of the show was, in my opinion the filled Yorkshire pudding with horseradish. It was simply a delight and set quite a high standard. We enjoyed our tea so much that we booked to return for an evening meal later in the week, hoping that the restaurant could hit the same high standards. The restaurant opens Wednesday - Saturday for the Al la Carte menu with a Sunday lunch to boot. We went on a Thursday evening and it was busy without being over-crowded and just the right side of lively. We were invited to sit on the patio to sip our aperitif and peruse the menus. The menus contained a fair amount of choice and varied in price. The wine list was also extensive and suited many tastes and pockets. Once we had ordered we continued to enjoy the early evening sunshine whilst our starters were prepared. The room was nicely appointed, with backlit mirrors to one side which off-set the lack of natural light due to the windows proximity to the hillside into which the restaurant is built. Our chosen starters were the chicken Caesar salad and a dressed crab salad. Both were wonderfully fresh and seasoned to perfection. The chicken was so tasty and the dressing fresh and plentiful. The crab was a treat to the eye as well as the tongue. For our mains we had lamb and venison. Both were served three ways, the venison in a shepherds pie, medallions and a fritter. The lamb, perfectly pink was served as a faggot, medallions and crispy breast with an auberge purée & tart yoghurt dressing. I'm very fussy about my lamb, it's usually hideously over-done & often over seasoned. This wasn't - I savoured every mouthful of every constituent part. The lamb was sourced from the nearby Cannon Hall farm, Well known & loved in the area and you can see why. The sides are well seasoned & presented too. I'd advise that most sides could be shared between two unless you were very hungry and then maybe order a side of potatoes each. To finish with we had the cheeseboard. Again, beautifully presented with care and consideration. There was a nice selection of relishes, fruit and celery and as many crackers as you need. A cheeseboard can be a wonder or a missed opportunity, this was comfortably within the wonderful side of the dividing line and I'd happily order it again - not something I do often. All in our bill was a little over £60 per person including drinks - a price that was more than fair for the quality of food and service. If I had eaten at a similar standard within London I would expect that to be closer to £80-90 pp. The staff were attentive without ever making you feel that you were being rushed or hurried in any way. Even when we were the last couple in the restaurant, our request for a final drink was eagerly entertained. It is clear that the staff have been carefully chosen and well drilled. There is an enthusiasm to deliver good service that ran through every member of staff that we spoke with. I got a very clear impression that they were all part of a happy team. Any grumbles? Yes, but nothing that would ever make me think twice about returning. Namely lack of wifi - it's in a bit of a data black spot and it's crying out for a public connection, although this is apparently something the owners are considering. Secondly, the height of the steps from the car park are a little on the steep side and whilst this could well be a result of the location it's something I would try to resolve if I were to host a business there. At the very least I would have a friendly warning sign for new visitors. As I said though, these are the meanest of niggles and I am eager to pay them another visit.
