We stayed for two nights and were able to get rest and recharge for the long hikes during the day. the location is super convenient to walk to the cable car, the bus station and the main plaza and restaurants in the town. The rooms were cleaned and sanitized and all the linen, including the bath robes were soft and inviting. The staff was really attentive and polite and made sure we had a pleasant stay. We did have a bit of an issue while trying to pay as the credit card system was down and our taxi to the next spot was waiting, so we had to rush to get cash to be able to pay. Try to settle your tab early if you can !

The location of this hotel is great since it's walking distance to downtown Cortina (lots of shops, bars, restaurants). You have to drive to the slopes, but that's how it works here no matter where you stay. Breakfast was included with my room and was ok. Eggs, pastries, coffee, and fresh fruit were served daily. Not a particularly impressive spread but got the job done. The spa (aka Wellness Center) is large with multiple saunas and steam rooms (coed). They also have a pool and hot tub, which always had kiddies playing - don't expect an oasis. I opted for a massage one afternoon, and it was below average. Also the spa receptionists don't speak English, unusual for a fancy hotel.

Within easy walking distance is the cable car to Rio Gere ski area or the bus to Socrepes and the other areas. The ski areas in Cortina are not all connected into one large system but are in several distinct areas. Rio Gere and Cristallo were our favorites. Adjacent to the hotel is a large store where you can purchase wine, beer, food and souveniers and just about anything you need. The bus depot is close by and a side trip to Venice can be easily fit into your schedule. The hotel is very nice with a good bar and large dining area and attentive staff. The hotel caters to skiers and to people wanting to explore the mountains in the warmer months. The mountains are quite dramatic. Our group (54 people), got a great package deal which included breakfast and dinner for 6 days. There are plenty of places to go nearby for variety but they did a great job. We also had a few days in Florence for restaurant exploration later on. Lunch we were on our own (but in Rio Gere the restaurant on the bottom was excellent). The Procutteria nearby was great apres ski. Breakfast was served buffet style and you can order a la carte. Dinner was very good also. They paid special attention to several people with gluten allergies. Staff was very professional. I would go back, the spring summer must be excellent also.

Short version: this hotel was an excellent choice and we're already planning next years trip, I can…read moreonly recommend it. Longer version: Spent there the last week of January 2016 with my in-laws. Seven adults (incuding grandparents), and five kids (ages 2 to 6) made the party. By sections: a) The hotel: very pretty location in the middle of the mountain, great views (I believe all rooms had at least a comfortable balcony, if not a terrace) and quite close to the Ortisei town center and ski lifts (a 5 minute drive). There's a large parking just under the ski lift that takes you up to Alpe Di Siusi-Saiser Alm that costs max. 6€/day. A bus stops just in front of the hotel but I never used it and therefore can't give any details. b) The rooms: simply decorated but nice, clean and with comfortable beds. Automatic shutters and very clean and modern showers (only complaint here is that our room didn't have a bath, which I love to use after a day skiing... I didn't ask though if other rooms had). Our room was divided into two separate rooms (one for the kids) connected by a sliding door, definitely a great distribution. c) Eating: Much, much better than I could have ever expected. The hotel is family-run and the owners themselves work everyday in the hotel (she being an experienced cook), and it does make a huge difference. I've had reasonably bad experiences in the past with complicated food and seeing as we weren't precisely an easy group (three different nationalities, one person allergic to fish&seafood, and the 5 very small kids) I was worried eating would be a problem. I was however completely wrong. Breakfast offer is large and nice but dinners were specially good, usually three courses plus dessert and in every single case "non-conflictive" food even for the small kids, a great job. Also, seeing as we had quite some small kids we were a bit separated from the rest of guests which made life easier for everyone. d) Service: The waiters are nice and correct but, not suprisingly, not -by far- as nice as the owners and their family. We had the opportunity to spend some time talking to the wife and had a great time, she puts her heart into her daily work (which she loves, by the way) and you can perfectly see it, it's always a great experience -and not that usual- to come across people that love what they do. e) Rates: Great price/quality relationship. Wine and drinks (full bar, by the way, with plenty of references) fairly priced. All in all a great place to stay and definitely worth repeating, can only recommend.

We booked a room at Hotel Due Leoni almost last-minute to visit some friends in Sacile and what a great accomodation it proved to be! The hotel furnishings are a bit outdated but this actually adds to its charme. I was very surprised to find a perfectly working vintage green SIP telephone on my nightstand- it was a sweet and nostalgic reminder of my youth. The rooms are very spacious with modern bathrooms and all the necessary amenities. The hotel is conveniently located in the heart of Piazza del Popolo and surrounded by beautiful Venetian-style buildings. An underground parking is available but it does require very skilled drivers to navigate the narrow parking slots. From the underground garage, an elevator takes you directly to the lobby and/or the rooms. The check-in process was fast and smooth with very professional and courteous staff. What really made a difference for us were the highest cleaning standards of the hotel: every surface was sparkling clean with nary a grain of dust to be found, all courtesy of their cleaning lady (I think her name was Elda and she came from Matera?) . Our room had a view on the Livenza River and the church. If you are a light sleeper, I would recommend taking some noise-cancelling buds to protect your ears since the bells of the nearby church ring at every hour- it did not bother us. The breakfast buffet is deliciously scrumptious with plenty of variety. We would gladly stay here again.

They were…read moreremarkably patient with us, especially given that there were several of us with similar/same names and a bunch of last minute changes. (I joked that next time we should provide them with a family tree... I was joking, but I think I might actually do that!) As an orientation, Kabis has three buildings: 1. The main building: This has the lobby, restaurant/bar, a small kid's playroom (new!), the dining area, and (also new!) the hotel's only elevator). 2. The nearby building: All hotel rooms; connected to the main one by covered -- but outdoor -- walkway/shallow stairs 3. A fully separated building across the street: All hotel rooms, except for a Wellness Spa on the lower level (see below for description). Also has a sun terrace outside. Walking into the the main building, the transformation is immediately apparent: They've done some major renovations. The entire main house is transformed: Everything is where it was, but the place was gutted and rebuilt to blend modern (clean lines, hard wood floors) with old (a few key pieces of art and furniture). Our room (#17) was in the main house: a double room, no balcony, on the third/top floor. We heard a little bit of street noise, but minimal church bells. The room was again, a nice mix of modern and old -- bare hardwood floors, white walls, simple wooden furniture, with a lovely new bathroom. Those rooms in the other two buildings tended to be in the older style, and while perfectly serviceable, do feel somewhat outdated. (That said, the balcony rooms are still worth having -- can't beat those views!) I'd bet that they're planning to update those in the next few years. New amenities: "Wellness Spa" aka a whirlpool for post-hiking soaks, an infra-red sauna, and a steamroom. (I didn't use any of these, but I walked through the area and it was lovely and modern.) If you think you'll be using these frequently, you may want to request staying in that same building (they're housed in the across-the-street house, and you can get to them without going outside). There's also a beautiful and idyllic sun terrace directly outside that house, overlooking the valley. Food: Continued to be very good. Dinners sometimes felt like a little much with so many courses, but we persevered. True vegetarians will have to ask about ingredients, but those in our group did just fine -- they couldn't eat every single course, but between the large salad bar and a vegetarian main course (and of course, dessert) every night, they didn't hurt for calories. Kid-friendliness: Last time I traveled here, I had zero kids. This time, I had two -- a baby and a toddler. Kabis staff were very helpful in all respects: Our room had two pack and plays (travel beds/cot, as I believe the staff called them over email) upon arrival, and there was always a high-chair for the baby (and never any complaints about the mess he made on the floor below it). There is a simple playground on the grounds, which has a slide, a swing set (including an infant swing), a sandbox, and a sort of merry-go-round thing. (If you're hiking in the dolomites, this kind of simple playground was pretty common at the Alms.) Other: -Our stay included a 7-day ticket for using the public transportation -Staff was very helpful in pointing out routes/directions for hikes from the hotel -Short walk to village, which has the public bus stop, tourist office (sells a great hiking map), post office, bakery, market, bank, and restaurant (Viel Nois) Recommendations for improvement: -The small kids' playroom in the main building is a wonderful addition! However, the room itself is quite loud/echo-y. I'd recommend a few carpets to dampen the sound. The old-fashioned toys are lovely, but the addition of a simple play-kitchen (such as from IKEA) and a wooden train set would make the space more entertaining for the little ones. -The hotel does offer wifi, as it did when I last visited in 2011. However, the coverage is very spotty -- we had wifi on one side of our room, but not the other, and none at all over on the sun terrace or on the front patio. I'm fully in support of an analog vacation, but consistent, high-quality wifi would have helped me enjoy my time more (I was traveling without a data plan and used the wifi to find my family members and also set up a simple baby monitor using two phones).

Gayle and I had a wonderful stay of 3 nights here. Cavallino d'Oro is right on the Main Square…read more(Piazza Kraus) and features a welcoming Tirolean character and superb service by Stefan, Suzanne, and their very attentive staff. This is one of those review situations where Gayle and I could add a 6th Star. It's easy to be charmed by Castelrotto/Kastelruth, which has an appealing village character, mountains in the background, a traffic free center, centuries of history, friendly and engaging locals, and small town family feel. That last point further emphasized at the nearby central bus stop that was across the street from a school. In the morning when we were heading out, parents were walking their kids to school, while in the late afternoon when we returned, our public SAD bus dropped us off and immediately loaded up with lots of happy children as a school bus to take that group home. The center of Village action is Piazza Kraus, that includes a cool bell tower (with Chapel), a Catholic Church that seems plain on the outside, but is amazingly appointed and spiritual on the inside, and the Cavallino d'Oro. There were many highlights during our stay including: - A nicely appointed room, with lots of space to move around or hang out, a good strong hot shower, and comfortable beds. - An exceptionally good restaurant. We had Dinner there one night on their half-board plan, which was not only "Kick Ass", but a great value for the money. The breakfasts were also excellent and the Dining Room itself almost begs you to stay a little bit longer (especially at our table that had the alpine view). - A comfortable lounge area where Gayle and I would sit in comfortable chairs, with a drink from the bar, and hang out. A good Wi-Fi signal is available throughout the Hotel, but it almost seemed like a shame to use it in such relaxing and romantic circumstances. - Free laundry machines in the basement. Unfortunately, we didn't get the chance to use the steam room and sauna just across the hall. - Great Advice. The Hotel has lots of available literature on tourist choices in the area and Hotel staff were very accommodating with various inquiries. I witnessed one teenage guest who had a question about leather bags being sold as part of the Thursday morning market on the Square. The person at the front desk accompanied her out to several of the booths and helped her decide on a choice. I was interested in buying a cow bell, which I thought was the perfect and authentic Alpe di Siusi/Seiser Alm momento. Stefan was quick to suggest the local Coop, which had a wide variety of these genuine items. I'm not sure when Gayle and I would have the next chance to visit the South Tyrol of Italy. Maybe we should come during the Winter Holidays featuring the Castelrotto Christmas Market, the appearance of Krampus, or a performance by the Kastelruther Spatzen folk music group? If that happens (God willing), we'll surely be staying at the Cavallino d'Oro.

This is a really lovely place to stay!…read more * The rooms are beautiful (we stayed in a "superior suite" with its own little garden for two nights, and then moved to a smaller room on the third floor after that (as the amazing suite was already booked...) * The baths are big enough for two people to soak in after a long day hiking/climbing mountains * The food is simple, but really good quality. Our breakfast *and* dinner was included in the price. The dinner consisted of lovely three or four course meals every evening. They get you to choose what you'd like to eat for dinner at breakfast, so it stops them wasting food as they know what they'll need to cook. * The wine they suggest to go with the daily menu was lovely, and cheap as chips. * There is a sauna and steam room that you can book for a bit of private relaxation (free) * They even have a washing machine and dryer that you can use for free (which is perfect if you've already been travelling for a while before you get here...) * All the staff seem to be multilingual. I was impressed by their speedy switching from German to Italian, but everyone had excellent English too. * The wifi works well, although it is a little slow. I would be happy to stay here again.

Believe me, this place is outstanding. We're so tired from a very long trip and arrived so early…read morefor check-in but they've accommodated us right away and so we're able to rest, take shower and once again we were so refresh as like nothing happen from our long journey. This hotel didn't have elevators but the staff knew what they were doing and so we didn't have to worry about anything. Our breakfast was fantastic and our room was upgraded with no extra charge, i mean they've really treated us like one of their own. The day we left for our transfer to airport, the staff took care our ride schedule by confirming it through fax and even guided us with a map exactly where to go for boat taxi pick-up. I'd say the hotel and the staff deserves more than respect and i salute them. Job well done guys.

The room was an excellent, clean, spacious room with even a "nook" area for sitting. Wifi worked perfectly. Dining in the restaurant was a wonderful experience with a four course dinner. That night, we had a mozzarella tomato appetizer, salad, pasta, and grilled veal steaks with a mascarpone pastry desert. Service was prompt, friendly and attentive. This is a wonderful hotel if you are in the area.
