I loved that Dr. Renzi had early early early morning hours - like 6:45, 7 AM - and that I could book online via Zocdoc. His reviews were so good I thought they might be fake. THEY'RE NOT. He is great. Personable, kind, funny, a good listener, wants to help you there instead of sending you to a gazillion specialists. The office building is a restored factory, which I think is super cool, and it's pretty easy to get to. Office was clean and staff was friendly and professional. I actually feel very lucky to be going from one provider I really liked to another I like just as much. Whew.

With her guidance, our daughter was sleeping independently in her crib from 7pm until 4 or 5am about 4-6 weeks after birth and from 7am-7pm by 12 weeks. We accomplished this without any sleep training with Lee's help. The best part about Lee is that she adapts her guidance to the needs of each family and doesn't have a one size fits all approach. She was easily accessible for any follow up questions and is amazing with babies! Lee was a phenomenal resource for our family during our transition into parenthood. I can't recommend her enough. The money spent hiring her was far more valuable than anything else we purchased for our daughter!

A few details: Post-partum: We worked with Lee to craft a personalized post-partum support schedule that helped us transition to being new parents. Our primary doulas were Kate and Beth, both of whom were amazing. They were generally with us 4 nights per week from 9pm-7am. In addition to caring for our baby overnight so we could get some much needed rest, they were a source of knowledge and comfort. We felt our baby was very safe and secure with them and trusted them 100%. We also had a few day time visit where we could ask questions, try out new things like baby wearing, and get out of the house. Sleep training: We decided to sleep train our baby at about 4.5 months. Lee came to our house and stayed for 3 days straight. During that time she coached us (most important part of sleep training is training the parents that everything will be OK!), monitored the baby at night so we could rest, took extensive notes, and left us with a detailed plan of action. We were amazed at house much progress our baby made in those 3 days. He was literally sleeping through the night and falling asleep/putting himself back to sleep with minimal crying. Lee provided a month of ongoing phone, email and text support, where we could ask questions and plan for things like sleeping elsewhere, car rides, disruptions to our schedule, etc. We give Doulas of Philadelphia our strongest endorsement. If you are looking for highly experienced, professional, loving, and kind people to help you transition into parenthood or when you are expanding your family, definitely consider their services.

On a recent first visit to the Gastroenterology Dept, I parked in the East Lot for the first time and walked up the ramp to the main building only to find two elderly men sitting behind the desk in grey uniforms that appeared to identify them as part of the Maintenance Dept. When I asked for directions to the Gastro Dept - they had NO IDEA! Next, I approached a staff member at a desk outside the entrance for Breast Cancer patients. She pointed me in the direction of the Young Pavilion. After a VERY LONG walk that took me in almost a full circle, I finally found the Gastro Dept - only to be greeted by a receptionist on the phone who refused to make eye contact of acknowledge my presence in any way. I would've be happy for just a smile - but NOTHING. After sitting for a while, I went to the rude receptionist who was still on a call that was - apparently - more important than greeting patients. I stood over her until her finally made eye contact but not with a smile. Instead, she snarled, "I'm on a call! This lack of staff training is inexcusable at a nationally recognized cancer hospital!

That being said, we had ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEM in scheduling the cardiac testing for my daughter who has a developmental disability in addition to the current questions about her heart's health with Jefferson's team and they followed up the initial e-mail with a phone call verifying the information including the time at which we needed to arrive. From the very first stop along the day's journey all we received were smiles and professionalism mixed in with the right amount of personal interaction and conversation. Did my daughter have to wait in a hospital gown for more than an hour not knowing exactly when she was going in for her procedure, yes but staff regularly checked on her with smiles. They talked with my daughter always doing their best to calm her nerves and her fears. The American public needs to learn the word PATIENCE and put it into practice because impatience at times causes folks to miss the positive care providers are attempting to give. As we prepared to get the procedure done one by one of the "surgical" team came by to share information and to ask if we had any questions or perhaps even more importantly if we had any concerns. The anesthesiologist really calmed my daughter by showing her a scan of her arm. We obviously were not present for the procedure but before our daughter was awake the head of the team was sitting down with us to explain everything that went on. She even removed her scrubs providing a more personal feeling to the conversation (If she doesn't remove her scrubs for post operative conversations all the time, I would highly recommend it because with a sea of scrub covered humans it was nice to hear the report from a physician dressed like we were. It was a great touch!). Yes, we had to wait and wait and wait until our daughter's readings were acceptable. We were so ready to leave and our daughter wanted to get dressed. And, yes we were not in a comfy private room but what mattered were the smiles of the staff and their friendly quick chats with us about our daughter, about their work histories and their families, and just about life. That's the way it should be! It would be so wonderful if no one needed cardiac care but if you are in Philly or South Jersey or the Delaware Valley our experiences tell us that Jefferson is the place to go!! A definite FIVE STAR review!!!
