Stopped in yesterday for a late breakfast/brunch before the snow got heavy. My dad was in the mood for a diner and we hit a homerun here. It has the feel of a small town diner and even the sweet older lady waitress that calls you hun. Between my dad, daughter and myself we got a western omelet with homefries, pancakes with bacon and the colonial breakfast special which was french toast, eggs, bacon and sausage. Everything was perfect. My dad even got a homemade muffin from the counter case to take home for later. Which he also said was really good. The booths are surprisingly small and the owners stand at the register and yammer back at forth at each other but the food was good and ready in a flash. Classic diner ambiance with yummy food and good service. This was the perfect spot for a quick bite that was filling and tasted great. This is a classic 'greasy spoon' diner. It's part of a little strip mall with maybe a dozen booth/table combos best suited for parties of 4. They do have some high chairs and individual kitchen chairs available to add to the end for a 5th person, although it can get a bit tight. I believe they also have a barstool seating option near where they prepare the food and you can see the mountain of bacon piled high out of a tray ready for frying. Our waitress was fantastic, seeming like she's probably done the gig for decades as she consistently and promptly took care of her tables while also interacting in a very comfortable manner. Their menu has a nice array of items at very reasonable prices under $10, including sandwiches, eggs, omelets, hot cakes, waffles, french toast along with sides of meat, home fries, and toast on most orders. I went with the special of the morning, which was biscuits and sausage gravy. The gravy was good, but I honestly found the biscuits to be lacking in both flavor as well as quantity. If it had matched the other dishes I saw around the room, I probably would have given this place a 5 star rating. Every time I stop into the York area I try and make a stop at Colonial Coffee Shop. The service is wonderful. I'll give you an example of the great service from my most recent trip. I was looking at the menu and noticed the menu board on the wall said Texas hotdogs. I asked myself, "what's a Texas hot dog" a friendly server came up to me after hearing my question and let me know what it was. The whole staff is very friendly and inviting and it makes it feel like home. The food is delicious, a great bang for your buck. I usually stick to the classic eggs bacon sausage hot cakes and home fries and it doesn't disappoint at all. The portion of home fries was hefty, I was able to share it with two other people. This is a very quaint little coffee shop that one of my besties andI enjoy occasionally. She always gets the french toast and I always get the Athenian omelette. Service is always good and today our service was particularly fast. Last time I took a desert home and upon opening it, saw that it was much much smaller than the one I saw in the desert case, so I guess they do the bait and switch. Always warm & welcoming. Whether you visit every week, or every few months, they will treat you as a regular. Solid breakfast offerings, nothing fancy, just good food! I have to say my experience here left me upset. I'll leave my opinion out and state the facts. When we walked in, the service was great. Our hostess and waitress were courteous and thoughtful. I left a good tip based on that. What happened afterward earned the one star review. We arrived shortly before noon and decided to have breakfast after my fiancé's dentist appointment across the street. I ordered the western omelette with a cappuccino and she ordered the feta cheese omelette with tomatoes. First off I did not receive a traditional cappuccino. What I got was an altered version of hot chocolate much like what you find in a convenience store. The price should have given it away, but I did drink it not wanting to be critical. The western omelette was exactly as described in the menu and tasted good. The feta cheese omelette had no description of what came in it nor was there any heading that described what was generally in their omelettes so she asked for tomatoes with her omelette. When she received her omelette it came with tomatoes and onions which she does not like. She had it returned so they could make her omelette without onions. Once again I would like to say that the waitress was very kind and thoughtful with this request. When she received her omelette she ate it happily because she was hungry but she thought something tasted funny. It's important to note she had nothing to eat before or after this. Fast forward to 5:30pm and my fiancé is doubled over with intense stomach pain. In closing, I will never eat at this restaurant again. read more

I came here today because the weather was really bad. The entire city is snowed in. Came to the area to run some errands but I also brought my laptop cuz I needed some work done. Staff on location were polite but something's gotta be done about their business traditions being stuck in the 1980s. She told me right off the bat that I "cannot study here" or "spend a couple of hours" working on my laptop. Although the place is called colonial "coffee" the only coffee you get here is the one they have inside the coffee pot out on a desk. Very good diner food. We got Thanksgiving day (cup of soup) Athenian Omelette (extra cheese) and Hamburger Steak Plate (mash potato + apple sauce(no cinnamon!!)) Thanksgiving day soup was creamy with corn and turkey. Not too salty, with a light sweetness coming from the corn. Athenian omelette probably would've been better with just american cheese(white). The quality of the food here is GREAT. I stopped by this morning for breakfast and was just expecting an "average" diner due to the exterior of the building. The inside was really cozy, and there were police men and women there eating breakfast, which was pretty cool to see. Reminded me of a movie. I ordered the Athenian Omelette which was AMAZING. The potatoes served with it were not your average hash browns. They were fresh cut and went really well with the omelette. As an added bonus, our server was really nice and super attentive, asking if we were ok several times. Can't speak to the lunch or dinner menu just yet, but for the breakfast menu you really can't beat it here in York. read more

We were very pleased with the Colonial Coffee Shop. We chose to sit at the bar but even on a Saturday morning, the wait for a booth was less than five minutes. The prices are very fair and we were surprised by how quick the service was. We didn't feel rushed at all and everyone was friendly, but we were in and out in less than a half hour which is nice if you aren't looking to linger. They were also generous with coffee refills and everything was tasty. They have scrapple on the menu and I'm a sucker for it. That's what brought us in the first time but we'll definitely be back. read more

I've never had to wait for a table coming in here, the waitress is always the same, but she's such a dear so there's no complaints there! I get the Colonial Salad and it's to die for. Fresh fruit on top, and an extraordinary house made raspberry dressing I wish I could buy to take home. The menu isn't the largest, but it's also not a big restaurant either so it makes sense. The prices are reasonable and fair, and it seems like one of those places where it's the same crowd all the time. My only complaint is that the waitress brings my bill right as she gives me my food. It makes me feel like they're rushing me out and then I feel like I don't want to inconvenience them to write a new check because I want dessert, so I never get dessert there.
