I rarely write reviews, but after living here for a year, I feel obligated to share my experience…read morebecause future residents deserve to know what they're signing up for. The floor plans and photos online are misleading. For example, the "Juliette balcony" is not a balcony at all -- it's just a screened door with a gate outside. If you expect your apartment to look like the pictures, make sure to ask for clarification before signing. When I moved in, the unit had not been cleaned and was left exactly as the previous resident had it. A vendor admitted days later that they had never serviced the apartment. On top of that, the refrigerator burned out on my first day. When I leaned against it, I was shocked badly enough to leave me shaken -- yet maintenance dismissed it as "just a shock" instead of an electrocution. Regardless of terminology, this is unacceptable in an apartment at this price point. To make matters worse, the unit was infested with ants, including in my bed. I eventually transferred to another unit that actually had a balcony like the ones advertised online. Management, however, failed to tell me that my $200 security deposit would not transfer -- they simply applied it to the new lease, and I never saw it again. Another major concern was my privacy. Five days before my lease ended, vendors entered my apartment without my knowledge to "prepare" it for the next tenant. I only discovered this because they left a Starbucks cup on my counter. The thought of strangers being in my home, with access to all my belongings, while I was still living there is extremely unsettling and irresponsible. Community-wide issues are constant. Management regularly sends emails complaining about loud music and a pervasive weed smell throughout the property. The valet trash service is unreliable, leaving garbage piled up and making the complex reek. The pool is often closed because residents bring in children who aren't potty trained. The mail setup is another nightmare. Packages are delivered to an outdoor hallway with no cameras, making theft easy. I personally had an Amazon package rifled through, along with several others, before the office finally stepped in. By then, items were already scattered and tampered with. Overall, this complex is mismanaged, unprofessional, and unsafe. Between the misleading advertising, poor maintenance, privacy violations, community issues, and lack of security, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere before signing a lease here.

Love the Jasper. I lived here for 3 years and was always grateful. It's "living lavish," no doubt…read more The grounds are meticulously manicured, and the star deck and amenities are spotless. You will not find a single leaf on the ground. Here's the most important benefit, to me: you cannot hear your neighbors. I'd say that once a month, I'd hear my neighbors drop something, but that's about it. It's VERY quiet. No footsteps, snoring, conversation eavesdropping, or music can be heard (unless your neighbor is having a party of course, but this doesn't happen at the Jasper.) The building is hurricane proof and from what I'm guessing, would be the last thing standing in the event of a nuclear blast - it's top notch. Tenants are comprised of the mid to older age range, with some graduate students sprinkled in. No ragers, no pre games, no screaming. Everyone is nice, and every pet is nice. There are shops/restaurants underneath that are 10/10 and convenient. There are monthly resident events that are well worth the time to attend (sunset paddle boarding, sunset ferry rides, weekly Wednesday happy hours, wreath making, candle making, food trucks, all FREE). The internet is lightning fast. The location can't be beat - with Colonial lake across the street, and the historic district a 1 minute walk away... makes me want to move back! Rent for my 1 bedroom was $3600 monthly. It's steep, but if you spend 95% of your time somewhere, it's worth the money. There is no better apartment in all of Charleston, and I've seen them all! 5/5 10/10 - no complaints.

I recently moved to a smaller apartment down stairs and the office staff was right there to help me fine my apartment through everything I needed to do for a moving day. The office staff from Jennifer who is the property manager to Christine, Heather and Drew were there to answer every question and concerns to help alleviate the stress of moving for me. Add the maintenance staff from Chris Allen, Taz and Chris #2, my move was hassle free. In addition to my move the office staff and maintenance staff literally have my back no matter what the situation I may be dealing with. They are my family and I feel safe and secure and happy here at the Channel of Bowen. Simply put I am home here. The Channel also has numerous social events for the residents and they are fun. The staff puts all of their energy into each event recognizing holidays and other events to recognize the tenants here. They are a fun group! The Channel is a very important part of the community here in Tanner Plantation. We have monthly get together' at area restaurants which further the relationship of tenants and staff not to mention good food and enhancing good friendships. I can't say enough about my family here at the Channel except from the first day you move in you know you are home. Weezie Stone

During our stay, we dealt with a SIGNIFICANT roach infestation…read more We reported this to maintenance several times. The pest-control technician who serviced our apartment told us on multiple occasions that our unit didn't appear to be the primary source of the infestation and that surrounding units would likely need to be treated for the problem to be resolved. However, the issue continued due to delayed treatment of the other units. In the meantime, we had to throw out multiple expensive appliances. Our neighbors in the building had similar problems, saying they had to wash their cleaned dishes before every use because of roaches in the cabinets. Clearly not an isolated issue. We also raised concerns multiple times about potential mold growth and related moisture concerns in the apartment. We just wanted it to be investigated, at least. Maintenance resolved the work order and told us management would get in touch- but management never reached out. Even when asked directly multiple times via email to simply acknowledge that we requested a potential mold problem be looked into, management would not even acknowledge why they never responded or investigated it. We documented our concerns and submitted a detailed written complaint to management requesting reimbursement for our losses and/or well as relief from a part of the final month's rent given what we had experienced. Management refused to waive or reimburse anything. Instead, we were blamed by management, despite their statements being in direct conflict with what we were told by pest control (and what we experienced and what was documented via maintenance reports.) Now we are treating our new house for roaches brought from the infestation. This has cost us money in our own pest control despite paying for years of monthly pest control at the apartment complex. Living here was very stressful, disgusting and invalidating. It cost us multiple appliances, and furniture. It was embarrassing to invite anyone over and felt unsanitary to live in. Management has taken zero accountability and only deflected the blame. Many complexes can have pest or moisture issues, but it's the lack of resolution, reimbursement or accountability that is our biggest frustration. Based on our experience, we would NOT recommend this property.

The location can't be beat. It is right off the Ravenel bridge in downtown Charleston. This gives easy and quick access to not one, but two bustling cities in the area, downtown Charleston as well as Downtown Mount Pleasant! The apartment building is really beautiful. It feels like a modern version of what we've known apartments as, it is thoughtfully designed throughout the entire building with multiple spaces to enjoy as a resident. There's several tables and seating areas around the first floor and a massive community space giving residents a multitude of options right outside their homes. The apartment we were able to tour was very spacious (especially the bathroom! Women, you'll love the bathroom!!) with lots of natural light, a well thought-out layout and it feels a bit more like a condo than an apartment (in the best way). Overall, if we were looking for a new apartment in Charleston, this would definitely be on the list to consider! Highly recommend checking it out for yourself! Thanks Morrison Yard for opening the space for us to check it out!

I repeatedly had to follow up with management and visit the leasing office during working hours just to get answers. After the eventual repair, I discovered multiple areas of dark spotting/growth that are concerning given the prior moisture issue. I've also dealt with move-in access problems, two separate issues involving cashier's checks submitted for rent, and repeated delays in management communication. I ultimately submitted my notice not to renew. Management acknowledged it and said I would receive a move-out packet weeks ago, which I am still awaiting. Morrison Yard is an attractive property in a great location, but based on my experience, the management and maintenance communication have not justified the premium price.
