I am very impressed with the two week training my dogs received at Co Dog Academy. I've attended numerous training sessions with other agencies, and this program is the best. My kids "Rosie and Snoopy" were still in training mode when we got home. I expected them to be a little out of control, instead, they listened to my commands and were engaged. I believe another two weeks at this program is warranted. Thankyou CDA. Rosie, Snoopy and I appreciate your knowledge of dog behaviors, what is really important in a dog's life and most of all, not to humanize your dog. It all makes sense to me now. Do not board your dog here. I've boarded my dogs here 28 time and spent a total of $4,000. I had my first issue here over the weekend and was able to see firsthand how little they value customers and care about the dogs. My dog was severely injured and almost lost her eye due to negligence on their end. After speaking with the animal hospital I was advised that MANY dogs come to the hospital with a variety of injuries and that CO Dog Academy is not transparent when injuries occur. The Kennel is known as having a "sketchy" reputation and the fact they don't have cameras is a huge red flag. Pat the owner was incredibly combative with me when I asked him to pay for the vet bill. He offered $500 and I asked how he came up with that amount when the cost of treatment was triple that amount. He said I had no proof they were responsible. What I believe happened is that the old rusty door that leads to the outside kennel fell and trapped my dog by her neck (they found grease all over her). As a result, eye proptosis occurred (very painful injury where the eye pops out) I'm so disappointed with how CO Dog Academy handled this matter. I'll Post pics on yelp. I can't express how grateful I am for Dan at Colorado Dog Academy. My daughter and her family recently rescued a 5-year-old Pit Bull named Maverick. He has been a wonderful addition to their family and has excelled in obedience training. However, he is quite reactive around other dogs. My daughter had been working diligently with a professional trainer for some time, but they weren't making much progress with Maverick to help him around other dogs. I encouraged my daughter to contact the Academy and speak with Dan, who I have known for 40 years and has trained several of my own dogs. I told her, "If there is a trainer who can help Maverick, it's Dan." Dan did not disappoint! After two weeks of board and train for Maverick, I met my daughter at the Academy today with my two dogs, which Maverick had not yet met. Dan facilitated a greeting and interaction between them, and it went even better than we could have hoped for. It was important for our entire family to spend time together, and that includes our dogs. Dan has made that possible for us. I brought my 1 1/2 year old bloodhound mix for the 4 week board and train. I will admit I wasn't a great pack leader for him and he was trying to run the show. I've had him home for 2 days and he's doing great! It's hard work to get me to do all of the things my dog has been trained to do in the last 4 weeks. It's a change for sure, but that's on me as the owner. I am confident if I stick with everything Patrick taught me my dog will continue to do very well. I brought my 7 yo son to pick up our dog. We (my 3 y/o Mini-Aussiedoodle Remus and I) LOVE CO Dog Academy. When Remus was a puppy, we enrolled him at another day-program in Broomfield and saw no results. I took Remus to training with Dan and he helped SO much. He hates the car (weird, I know) and would get reactive when attempting to get him into the back seat. Dan helped with "Load/Unload" and now Remus doesn't think twice before hopping in the back seat. Being quiet back there? That's a whole other thing... Remus still struggles with some aggressive behaviors that I am looking to sort out, but I want to give so much love to the Boarding team. They know just how to handle his triggers when I need to go out of town for any period of time. He is SO excited every time I drop him off and is SO tired when we go home after and I know it's because he had so much fun. I also know they love him. They call him "Screamy Reemy" b/c he's very vocal, which is a lot but also makes my heart burst that through the challenges, others love him like I do. They know that every time I drop him off, it's with his kibble (he's got a chicken allergy) and his purple Kong Wooba, and all you can ask for is that the people who care for your pets and help you to help them live a better life are as wonderful as these folks are. I drop him off here instead of asking family or friends to watch him, b/c they do a phenomenal job and he loves it. read more

I have mixed feelings about this place for the 1 mo board and train program. My first dog was a puppy and went to the training program and came out very obedient. My second dog was 2 years old and went to the training program and came out almost exactly the same... when I went to pick her up and they were trying to show me her listening to commands, she may have listened on the 4th-5th time they asked her to do the command, if at all. The second time was very disappointing and definitely not worth the $1700 I paid. I guess it works if the dog is a puppy but if the dog is an adult, I wouldn't count on any progress. read more

Please do not take your dog here. I chose this training facility because it was a family owned and run establishment for many many years. I thought my dog would be well cared for, I was wrong. I took my 4 year old French Bulldog in for a month long training and boarding. He has now been home for 3 weeks. He was not cared for properly. I called every week to check on him, I was told by the staff and even Kyle that he was doing great. He adjusted very quickly to being there and was easy to train because he was food driven. I was told this by Kyle himself. Each time my husband or myself called we were told he was doing great. 2 weeks into training, I spoke to Kyle (the owner and my dogs main trainer) again I was told he was doing great, that he was a great dog and showing none of the issues I had brought him in for. I was told by Kyle that if he had problems when he got home that Kyle would take him as his personal dog. This was never even a thought, we brought him in for training to have him be a better member of our family not to get rid of him. We went to pick him up after the 4 week program. We did a short class and went home. Upon getting him home we noticed his harness was hanging off him. His spine was visible once we took the harness off, he also tried to bark and had no sound. I weighted him and our 30lb very fit Frenchie had lost 8 lbs in 4 weeks. I called Kyle and asked him what happened. Kyle's response was that he just wouldn't eat and was not food driven. I told Kyle that every time I called he himself said he was eating great. Kyle told me that he didn't notice he was loosing weight, I mentioned that his harness was very loose and Kyle said "well I did tighten it down a few times" DOESNT THAT TELL YOU HE IS LOOSING WEIGHT??? I also told Kyle that he had no voice, he said well he must have barked a lot. So his main trainer doesn't know if he barked a lot or not and didn't notice a dog loosing almost a third of his body weight. I was told by another trainer that they have up to 105 dogs at a time, that they can't know everything about every dog. I was lied to every time I called, my dog was not cared for, I was not alerted to him not eating and even 3 weeks later he still has no voice. I have written 2 letters to The Academy and have received zero response. I am completely dissatisfied and disappointed in The Colorado Dog Academy, I would plead with anyone to not take their dog their, they are not properly cared for and you will be lied to by the owner. ***in response to the business*** Vincent was home for just over 2 weeks, he gained 6lbs in that time. When a dog is eating they can put 3 lbs on a week. I have also been informed that after Bincent was out of your "care" you went to his vet and requested his bet records. There is an investigation going on to see how those records were obtained since you did not have permission since he was no longer in your care. You never addressed why the constant lies happened. I was told by Kyle once we had Vincent home that he wasn't eating well while there that you all needed to try different foods and he still wouldn't eat. 10/10 Highly recommend. Please read. My wife and I needed a boarding and training facility after having damage to our home in Golden and at the perfect time (joke) recently getting a puppy. We found Colorado Dog Academy online and after a call with Patrick we decided CDA would be the best place. Our puppy Koko was 9 weeks when we sent her and as someone who has had dogs my whole life I was very confident I could do a good job training her on my own. Despite that, we pulled the trigger and sent Koko to their 4 week boarding & training program. While she was at 'camp', we were encouraged by CDA to visit her as often as possible however with our busy lives we were not able to. That said, when we went to pick her up and to attend our post camp training course we were absolutely taken aback with her progress. We spent about 30-40mins with Patrick who educated us about dogs, their language, and why CDA techniques are so helpful. After going over things like commands, scheduling, and background he brought our little fluff ball into the room. As soon as he brought her into the room we were beyond impressed. She immediately sat and listened intently to all of Patrick's commands. Patrick brought her all around the room, demonstrating her new skills. I have never seen a dog listen so intently and obediently. She would not even acknowledge my wife and I until Patrick commanded her to. Next we took the leash and both of us executed all of her commands with Patrick there helping us. We also took her outside and worked on that as well. Patrick an absolute professional and clearly has years of experience. He was excited to show us her new skills and teach us how to continue training at home. We are so excited to go back again next weekend for our follow up meeting. Overall this is an easy 10/10 and to be honest it's hard to read some of the other reviews. This place is great, the other trainers were amazing too, and we've already been telling anyone we run into about it. There was plenty more good but I know this is running long. I was really excited to go here because my parents had taken one of our dogs here in the past and he was probably the best mannered dog we've had! I had also read reviews and heard great things from friends. I arrived early after an hour drive from my house. My consultation went really well (despite the trainers snobbish attitude) and I bought everything he suggested. I even stopped giving my dog carrots because he said they were bad for her- my vet told me later that they are actually very good for dogs. I then arrived early again for my dogs first training session a week later (10 minutes at most) and went to the same place I was told to wait before. When I walked in the trainer was with another client and was unnecessarily rude to me. He asked if he could help me in a very condescending tone and then told me to wait outside the building. I waited until my appointment time and then a few minutes after while the dogs in the kennels were going bonkers. I left soon after and decided my money would be better spent somewhere that would be a bit nicer to me. I felt that my money was better spent somewhere that had more respect for me. Mika my Siberian Husky came out looking like a million bucks and they actually properly trimmed her nails which other groomers haven't done thus far. In March and April of this year we had our golden doddle at their boarding school to get trained- I don't believe they did a thing to train this dog. The only thing she can do is what we taught her prior to her going to any school for a month they kept telling us that she was coming along fine When in reality (I truly believe ) they just kept her in a cage and did nothing. We brought two of our dogs here for individual training. The training we signed up for was training in which my husband and I stayed with our dogs to be trained. Their methods were harsher than we were used to, but we stuck with it for a few lessons and then went on our merry way, not planning on returning. Fast forward a couple of years. I was with my children leaving King Soopers when a trainer and a Rottweiler walked by. The Rottweiler caught sight of my children and took interest in them. Neither my children, nor I, were nervous. He didn't snarl, bark or do anything fearful. He was on a leash and more than 5 feet away from us. The trainer hit him so hard in the face with something that the dog cried out in pain. Not knowing for sure if the trainer was from the Colorado Dog Academy, I called them and left a message. It was returned by Pat who admitted it was their trainer, said the dog was aggressive and then proceeded to repeatedly attack me saying "What would you do with the aggressive dog? How would you train it?" He was clearly trying to show his superiority in dog training and to try to intimidate me. There are many studies that show this is not the way to train a dog and it has only deleterious effects. Yet, this company continues to stand by a debunked training method. My biggest concerns are that the owners weren't there to witness this, thereby giving them vetoing powers of the behavior, but also, these aren't Pat's dogs. They are other people's dogs that he is allowing to be mistreated. I would strongly encourage you to only bring your dog here if you are okay with the strong arm training methods. read more

My husband and I had construction happening on our house after a hot water heater leaked and ruin first floor, we had just gotten a puppy and were hopping from air b n b one to the next which made training really difficult while we were displaced and didn't know how long everything would take/dealing with insurance. We enrolled koko in their one month program (they squeezed her in due to our dire situation) to help while we got settled. I can't say enough good things about Colorado dog academy, both Patrick, pat and all the trainers. We were brought to tears today when we picked up koko. She was SO well trained. Able to walk on the lease, sit, lie down, house trained. We cannot thank you enough for taking such good care of our baby this month and training her!!! We were matched up with Dan after requesting a trainer with extensive knowledge and history of working with dog reactive dogs. I had no idea where I went wrong so I asked Dan to start at square one, as if we had never owned a dog. I am determined to get this right. We have a 3 1/2 year old bernedoodle who is overall a great dog, but is excitable, stubborn and dog reactive which has made training him at home more difficult especially since we thought we could just do it all ourselves. I wish we would have done this sooner because professional help has made all the difference. After only a few sessions, we are extremely satisfied with Dexter's progress and are looking forward to so much more. So very disappointed. CDA came very highly recommended and I was hoping for a positive experience. I dropped my newly adopted deaf rescue dog off for training for the command "come". He was already trained for commands like sit, lay down. The paper work I signed indicated that we would train for 2 weeks and then see if 2 more weeks were needed. Less than 24 hours later I received a voicemail (see below). Either I commit to "4 weeks or come pick him up". Not even going to see how he was doing at 2 weeks. Needless to say, I went and picked him up. I paid up front for the 2 weeks (and would have been fine to pay for 4) because it was NEVER about the money for me. But after the message left by Pat and the lack of customer service and courteous communication, I did not feel comfortable leaving my dog there. Pat, we are both blessed. You obviously have so many customers, you do not need us. I'm blessed because I can afford to take my dog to someone else to train. I gave a 2 star rating because the people in the office were professional and courteous. The lack of leadership by the owner is sad and unfortunate. read more

I did not have a good experience at this place. I took my dogs here for 4 days, when I called to check on them, the lady I spoke to obviously lied to me. Her tone seemed annoyed that I was even calling to check on my dogs & I asked if the dogs had been eating and she proceeded to tell me they both were doing great and both eating. I knew that wasn't the case. When I get there a different lady tells me my dog didn't eat because she was sad which is to be expected, but don't lie and say she was eating when she wasn't. Also, we had to pick them up a little late because our flight delays & when we called to tell them we were running behind on time just by a little bit the lady was dismissive & told us they would not wait past closing time because they have been their since 6am & they would have to stay for two more days because they were closed the next two days. So instead of waiting a few extra minutes she was trying to force my dogs to be jailed there for 2 more days and me have to pay for those extra days. They have a sign up that says pickup outside of hours is a small fee but this lady said absolutely not. My dogs and all their stuff smell like a dirty dog area, like pee and dingy. (They told us they wash their stuff) Also, I'm also positive they gave my dog treats to other dogs or kept them for their own stash because my dogs don't even eat a full treat yet they sent them back with all treats gone? This place is is not honest about the dogs stay & I don't think I'll go back nor recommend them to others. I would give them zero stars if I could. We had our 2 dogs (Bear & Stella) there for the 4 week board & train. We dropped them off on a Friday afternoon, and was told to give them a few days to get adjusted, but then i could call for updates. I waited as long as i could, but i was worried about my babies and by Sunday afternoon i had to call. I was told "they haven't asked about you". I laughed assuming he was giving me a hard time, but would still provide an update. I got nothing...he said to give them a few days.We had contacted them several times during the first week to find out how our dogs were doing. We let them know we were concerned about Stella after seeing her picture posted (a week into training). She was sitting on her tail, which she has never done before. We were told that she was nervous and that was normal for danes.We were told they were doing fine. 10 days into training she had aspirated her own vomit and was found septic and unconscious. They took her to the emergency vet, but she couldn't be saved.They never informed us she was sick, they didn't do anything until it was too late. She was only 8 months old. I believe if she would have gotten the care she needed...it wouldn't have gotten to that point. We immediately went to pick up Bear and my husband was handed a check and told we had a good looking lab. They also paid our vet bills , then went on to block us from communicating with them. They knew they were at fault. But, the money can't make up for the loss of a life. One that could have been prevented if it weren't for their neglect. We got Bear home and found he was also sick and is on medication. It wasn't until after this tragedy that I found other reviews with similar situations of dogs getting sick, owners not being notified. Please don't bring your babies there. I am amazed at the number of positive reviews for this organization. I'm a pretty easygoing guy -- not hard to please at all -- but must confess that I found the training methods employed here to be deplorable at best, and abusive at worst. First, they collect all fees up front and offer unlimited training. Seems like a good idea, unless you don't like what they do, in which case, you have no recourse. More importantly, however, they were very abusive to my dog. For example, they put him on a long leash, tossed out a treat, and told him to go get it. The leash was too short, and his neck was jerked back abruptly as he was running at full speed and reached the leash's end. The force caused him to yelp sharply in pain. Moreover, the trainers were rather discourteous on several occasions, and outright disrespectful to my wife. These guys seem to think that they're drill sergeants, and customers (after all fees have been paid) are newly drafted privates. I STRONGLY URGE ANYONE CONSIDERING SUBJECTING A DOG TO THIS TYPE OF TRAINING TO RECONSIDER! And, if you think I'm just a crank or a primadonna, look at my other reviews. I almost never give negative reviews for anything. This is the exception! BEWARE! Note: After reading the owner's response, below, I have decided to update my review. First, the owner did indeed try to contact me, and I have no interest in responding to him/her. Secondly, my wife and I were indeed clients. DO NOT let your pet stay with this business. They lost my cat, and then lied about it. We trusted this company to look after our cats while we were moving house. They lost one of our cats, didn't inform us for over 24 hrs, then lied about when they lost the cat. Now when I asked for compensation they simply said 'our insurance company will call you'. Now were out looking for our cat but have yet to find him. IF they had informed us straight away we could have looked immediately. Instead they hoped it would turn up so we would not have been aware. I have been meaning to write a review for this place but sort of spaced it as I was moving to Michigan. After having a bad experience at a different kennel, I only thought it was fair to give credit to Colorado Dog Academy for the many positive experiences I have had there. I am a devoted Dog Mommy and people frequently ask me for kennel recommendations... this is simply the best I have tried and totally worth the drive for anyone outside of the Broomfield/Westy area. I have a very energetic Australian Shepherd who (like a typical Aussie) can be distrusting and nervous towards strangers but the people at CO Dog Academy have won him over. I have taken him for both daycare and over night boarding and they always greet him warmly and remember him by name. When we pull up to the kennel, he is always excited to be there which is a good sign that they treat him well. All of the employees I have encountered have been super nice and don't seem at all annoyed when I call and check on him. I wish I could remember the guy's name who works at the front desk (probably late 20s...blonde hair) but he is particularly friendly to me and sweet to Winston (my dog). You can tell that these people are serious animal lovers which is exactly what you want from a daycare/boarding place. At about $13 a day, it is a major steal for doggy daycare and if I were still in town I would also check out their training courses. Winston has been to other classes before but like most working/herding dogs he likes feeling like he has a "job" and going to class; a lady I talked to in the lobby sends her to dog to class here and said it was excellent. The indoor and outdoor kennels are spacious and kept clean...there was no nasty doggy smell here. I opted to have them give my dog a bath when I have picked him up twice and each time he came back looking and smelling great. The groomer did a thorough job and they even gave him an adorable scarf to wear. For me, it's the little things... Four paws up and a snap!! This is my dogs favorite overnight. Family owned and operated they have trained my pups; groomed and pet sit. Great people who really care. Overnight with a groom before leaving is a great way to bring dogs home clean and happy. I won't use any other overnight kennel. We drive 40 min to get there - they're that great! Zoe has been going to Colorado Dog Academy sine she was three months old. Now that she is nearly eleven, she still loves the routine and care she gets there. Been taking our Gus Gus there for over a year now and we couldn't be happier with them. This is a place where they DO care about the animals. A lot of people need to remember this is an animal facility NOT the 4 Seasons. The care the animals get is TOP NOTCH!!!! Our Shepperd can't WAIT to go to Daycare everyday to hang out! So after reading some reviews, I decided to call and book a grooming appt. The person who answered the phone is the Owner's son. This is a totally family owned business, which is great! I asked about some of the other services like boarding or training, and the guy was kinda snarky about the training stuff. I asked if the trainers were certified and he chuckled that old familiar "this person is an idiot" chuckle and then tried to make me feel stupid by asking which certification I was loking for, paused and then said there are no certfifications for dog training in colorado. *crickets* I want NATIONAL certs, not state certs. Whatever, I digress. I was really in need of a new groomer so I booked the appt and crossed my fingers. I checked in the next morning, oh btw, this place is in a residence area so don't get lost or confused! I was met by my groomer Misty and explained that Roxy has been deemed ungroomable by Petsmart, just like she was deemed unadoptable by Dumb Friends League. Again, I digress. Misty said she would go slow and if all we could accomplish was another bath, so be it. To my surprise I got a call 2 hours later saying she was done! Like totally shaved, groomed, nails clipped, done! Upon picking her up, Misty said she was an angel and that she was waiting for the big freak out that Petsmart described to me, but there was none. Just a little shyness and fear of the clippers on her paws. Misty is an awesome groomer and obviously very patient and loving. Roxy looks amazing and I was able to save $5 with a yelp check in offer! read more
