Conclusion: This place is not a clinic or hospital. It feels like a low-rated restaurant that kicks you out and laughs at you being a trouble to them after taking your money. This place causes PTDS. I do not understand why this place would get a rating higher than one star. I would give it minus star if I could. I wish I had never visited their office. First, the doctor I saw was extremely rude and unprofessional. He never let me finish a complete sentence - always impatiently cutting me off. He made personal attacks to the doctors I saw before and he scoffing sarcastically on and off. Second, Scott is arrogate, rude and condescending. He made mistakes and blamed the patient for creating too much stress on him. Third, the link they sent out for registration for a patient portal never worked. No one would fix such "small, unimportant issue" for you. Your calls are directed to voice message boxes automatically. Fourth, they forgot to put the exam orders into their system. And when the results came back, they forgot to inform you. Everyone working there seems so unhappy and they treated the patients like punch bags. read more

I am so saddened to write this review, but I am at a loss with this Doctor's office. I saw Dr. Ruffner on October 28, 2020 and absolutely LOVED the care he provided. He listened thoroughly, was deeply knowledgeable, provided care complimentary to the naturopathic care I've received, had knowledge of the microbiome from his time as a researcher, and reviewed my supplements through the lens of his Chinese medicine training. So why the poor rating? His office has been IMPOSSIBLE to deal with. I saw his office on 10/28/20 and could not get them to "sign off" on my visit notes until 1/19/21 (three months later) so that I could submit a claim to my insurance company. I have also tried several different times to get an appeal filed with my insurance, for a drug they had rejected, and Julia has been impossible to get in touch with and then annoyed with me for even asking. (I have faxed, mailed, and left a voicemail with the information needed). Scott is this office's saving grace, as he approached every interaction with me with great empathy and support. I am deeply saddened that I cannot manage the stress of dealing with Dr. Ruffner's office, as I think he is an empathetic and deeply effective doctor. But as someone with GI issues... the stress is simply not worth it. read more

I had a great consultation with Dr. Rufner. He requested a follow up appointment. I set up a teleconference with him. I waited 25 minutes on line before someone came on and said - we cant find Dr Rufner.. Took my number and said he would call me. Never called. I have called the office several times. It rings and then hangs up. Got thru today and asked to speak with the office manager. After waiting 30 min - the receptionist said he was busy.. I should have read the reviews before making an appointment with Dr. Rufner. I can relate to all of the many bad reviews! I wonder if Dr. Rufner has a clue how horrible his office staff is. I'm sure he does!!! Do not make an appointment with this practice- save urself the aggravation YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!! read more

First, I liked Scott in the office - he was efficient and helpful. I had a procedure conducted by Dr. Rufner. He explained the outcome when I was in recovery and I had no recollection of what he said. If my daughter hadn't been with me, I'd have not understood a single thing so that was not a good plan. He recommended a second procedure. It was two weeks ago and Dr. Rufner STILL hasn't called me with the results! I called his office to inquire and asked his receptionist, Emily, when he returns messages meaning time of day - AM, lunch, after work. She got indignant and said, "WHEN HE HAS TIME!" It was rude and unprofessional. But none of it matters because he never called. I decided not to put up with such inattention and found another doctor to explain the results. I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Seija at the Mississippi office. The office is some sort of satellite office and a very minimal effort is used to make this office clean an professional. I was told a handful of negative remarks from the staff about having to use that office, so I don't understand why they continue to use it and put no effort into it when they don't like it themselves. I filled out online paperwork but since they could not locate it I had to fill it out again at the office. My appointment with Seija was late but went well. The Doctor listened to my concerns and advised me that they would schedule me with an outpatient procedure by calling me within a few days. Two weeks later and nobody called me so I called in and asked about it. I was informed that they had called multiple times. They had my number incorrect, it was one digit off from what it should have been. I was made to feel like this was my fault, though it seems more probable that it was a data entry error. I was scheduled for my procedure and advised that I'd receive a confirmation email. No email arrived. I was reading on the internet about the outpatient procedure and people's opinions were heavily weighted to discussing the preparations. What preparations? I had to call the office and ask about the preparations, was again made to feel like this was my fault somehow that I didn't get informed of the preparations. I don't know if Scott speaks down to everyone with disdain, but both times I've spoken to him were unpleasant. I ended up cancelling this procedure and will be finding another doctor. Seija himself seemed nice enough but I've had better service, atmosphere, and treatment at 3rd world doctors offices and I expect better here. read more

Terrible!! How does someone spend that much time and money to become a doctor, and then run a practice that seems to barely function day-to-day? I was referred to the Ogden St Office due to some troubling blood labs. After waiting for nearly three weeks to get an appointment (which I understand - just because I am worried, doesn't mean I get to jump the line at the office of my choice), I was finally seen by Dr. Sieja, who ordered some more blood labs. I was later notified by my insurance company's app that the results were in. However, I received no contact from the Dr. Sieja's office. I finally called them only to learn that they couldn't locate my lab results - which were taken IN THEIR OFFICE. About a week later they called me to say that they found the information and wanted to order some imaging, and that I should wait for the referral. Of course, it didn't come until I called to remind them that it was needed. Following the imaging at a separate office, I was once again notified that the results had been sent to the Colorado Gastroenterology office and that they would get back to me to discuss the results. Surprise, surprise - no contact from the office. Once again, I called them to see what was next and was told they would find the images, talk with the Doctor and get back to me. When that didn't happen, I called them AGAIN. Now, their automated operator fails to connect on most options, or just rings and rings until the line finally disconnects. This office is unprofessional at best, and shady on most occasions. If they are still in business, I won't be returning. My health cannot wait on such a poorly run office. I wish I had read some other reviews before accepting the referral to this office. read more

If I could give no stars I would. I went to this office personally to help my mom get information about a procedure she needed and the receptionist had the rudest face and tone while talking to us. She was incredibly dismissive as was Linda when we called. When we visited the first time they asked if my mother had insurance and we said no. Why couldn't they tell me straight away they don't do self pay? We could've saved ourselves the distress. It honestly felt like they were offended I had to translate for my mother. I called once to see if they received the referral from her doctor and the first lady spoke to me like a child. I called again after a week to recheck on the referral and spoke to Linda this time, (thank God I got her name down so she can be better trained on customer service) only to be dismissed as soon as I gave her my mother's information. She said "we haven't sent her paperwork". I told her they called her telling her they received the referral and they refused to find a translator for her. I had to re-explain the purpose of the call and only then did she take the time to check what I was even calling about only to respond with rude attitude about my mom being self pay and they don't take self pay.The tone and way of speaking wasn't necessary. I've been looking for answers for my moms procedure and had never struggled before but when we finally were directed to them, instant regret. Thank God my mom isn't getting any procedure done by these people. The medical field is supposed to be comforting and reassuring. People go to the professionals for help. But this office is full of receptionists with attitude who lack ANY form of customer service. This experience with my mother's heath has already been stressful and emotionally distressing and to be treated like morons when all I needed was guidance is beyond me. These women should not be allowed to talk or work with patients. I truly hope no one else is impacted by their lack of interest in this field. We all work and have a lot going on and even then you meet medical offices that are truly professional and go above and beyond to prove they truly care about their patients. But this office was disgusting. I should've read the reviews before even dealing with these people. read more

Dr. Seija is the worst doctor I've ever dealt with and he significantly impacted my health for the rest of my life. He throws his employees under the bus and on top of everything is a coward. I first visited Dr. Seija when I had symptoms of ulcerative colitis (UC). A colonoscopy through his office in Golden indicated I had a moderate/severe case. He prescribed medication and sent me home. Here's where things really got bad for me. Despite the prescription my symptoms got worse by the day. I won't go into detail as UC is a horrible disease. I will say I was going to the bathroom 12+ times per day, eventually excreting nothing but blood. I called his office and explained the situation. His assistant said she would speak to Dr. Seija and get back to me. She eventually got back to me and told me what I was experiencing was normal and to give the medication a few more days to work. Another few days went by and things continued to get worse. Some days I could not eat at all and I was rapidly losing weight. I called again and pleaded for an appointment because I was doing so badly. The assistant got back to me and explained that Dr. Seija would not see me but would change my medication and to again be patient, etc. After 3 weeks of continuous decline, more calls to Dr. Seija's office where I was basically told I was being a hypochondriac, I had lost 25 pounds (I was lean to begin with), I could barely function. A friend who had seen my rapid decline and was aware Dr. Seija refused to see me insisted I go to the ER. I drove to the nearest ER where it was discovered that in addition to severe UC I had also contracted C. diff, a serious bacterial infection which I likely contracted during the colonoscopy Dr. Seija performed. Despite being in a hospital my condition continued to decline as they could only treat my simultaneous conditions (UC and C. diff) one at a time. I was quickly prohibited from eating solid food, fed through a pic line. During this time I was told that Dr. Seija was coincidentally an attending doctor at the hospital and that he would be visiting me. He never did in my 6 weeks in the hospital. Because he is a complete coward. The nurses and other doctors would regularly ask if Dr. Seija had visited me, and when I said he had not they said that was confusing since me and my condition were well known throughout the hospital. Between the first and second week another attending doctor, who specializes in colon resections began visiting me and telling me I was likely to need my large intestine removed for good. This was devastating. After trying my best to avoid losing my large intestine I eventually ran out of time and had to have emergency surgery to remove it. I had lost 55 lbs, going from 6'1" 200 lbs to 145 lbs in a little over a month. I ended up needing four surgeries to rebuild my digestive system. It was nearly a year of doing everything I could to ensure I would recover as well as possible. In the midst of my surgeries, I wrote Dr. Seija a letter summarizing my experience with him and how his negligence had impacted my life. I told him I was considering formally filing a complaint against him. To my surprise he actually called me. He told me he was aware of what happened but that my case was an anomaly and there was nothing he could have done. When I asked why he never saw me in the hospital even though he was an attending physician he avoided the question but sounded like he was in tears. He agreed to meet with me in person and so I did. I reiterated my experience and my several calls to his office during which he refused to meet with me. He was extremely careful with his words to ensure not admitting to any blame, and had no explanation for why he did not see me in the hospital. His conclusion was that it was the fault of all his assistants who took my calls and failed to adequately explain my condition to him. He assured me that he would "get to the bottom" of this "communication failure". Of course I never heard from him again. TL;DR - Dr. Seija is a terrible doctor, a liar, and a coward who throws his employees under the bus for his failures. Do not take a chance with your health because he does not care one bit for his patients. read more

My doctor's office referred me here and spoke with Scott to try to get me in ASAP under advice from my PCP. I had called and spoke with Maria and she said she'd speak with Scott and call me back. I never got a call back and made 2 other calls on the next two days, with no call back. They called me back a week later after I had already found another earlier appointment with a different gastro and Maria cut me off during that call. Nothing is more frustrating when you're experiencing time sensitive medical issues than to deal with sloppy and unsympathetic staff. read more

My EOB showed afterward that I owe $0.00. I paid them $205. They never sent the money back nor did they refund it. So now I have to call them; dispute charges; etc. . . For years, I have been having trouble getting them to renew my prescriptions automatically with my mail-order firm. You have to call them every 6 months and demand they do this since they ignore multiple attempts by the mail-order firm. The only problem with calling them is that no one every returns a call assuming you can even get them to answer the phone. I do not understand how this practice stays in business when they show so little concern for their patients with this level of customer service. I think the doctors as good. It is just their back office support that is terrible. I would look elsewhere for a doctor. read more

Absolutely horrible. Charged me $75.00 co-pay WHICH I PAID then kept sending me bills. I called them and left a message stating proof. They never got back to me, then today over a year later, today I get a collection letter, because the girl running the credit card machine was stupid. This better not be on my credit or I will report them to the credit bureaus for fraud. Also the treatment was horrible. They tried to schedule me for endo/colonoscopy and I had to call and find out insurance would not cover the colonoscopy because instead of it being preventive care, the doctor lied or didn't listen to me (or both) and told them I had reported a certain symptom when I did not. This place is a hack job, get a better referral from your PCP. I also had a bad experience with the scheduler for the procedure and had to call the facility itself to cancel (because she was either overwhelmed or refused to cancel it herself when I asked her to) and even the facility was shocked that she hadn't canceled the appointment). I think they felt sorry for me when I told them my story and apparently they weren't supposed to cancel it (Colorado GI was supposed to call them) but they went ahead anyway so I wouldn't get charged cancellation fees. STAY AWAY would give zero stars if I could. read more

You'll spend more time trying to get through on the phone than you do doctoring with them. Dr. Brenner spent all of 30 seconds with me the day of my appointment. Dr. Brenner took no additional information outside of what I had already provided the nurse and ordered a bunch of testing. Unimpressed, I went to my ultrasound and as I am walking out of the imaging facility my phone is ringing from a different imaging facility to set me up with the same test. The practice has a serious internal flaws, Imaging said they'd have my results in 24 hours, I never received a call in the week after. I had to call myself, the girl said she'd call me back same day and didn't. When they did finally call back (because I left a message) they had the RECEPTIONIST call about my results and further questions?? Moved Doctors immediately. read more

My husband and I would like to commend NeeNee for finally rescheduling my husband's colonoscopy appointment. We finally got through to the main office and she was there for us and we moved ahead. She was wonderful! However, prior to speaking with NeeNee, it was impossible to get in touch with a person who could help change the appointment. The "scheduling department" never called back after several calls - and we were put on hold multiple times with an unbelievable wait time - and then no service! However, once I was able to connect with NeeNee, she immediately moved ahead, understood all of our concerns, and helped us in so many ways. Thank you so much, NeeNee. You are the best! Avoid this place like the plague. The customer service is attrocious, you can never get in touch with anyone in the office, I never received results from tests that were ordered, and any procedure you need done that requires sedation can only be done once a month on a Tuesday. To add insult to injury they coded my procedure incorrectly thus charging me $2k when it should have been completely covered. This place is a bit of a nightmare. Long story short, they don't seem to be well-run (they "lost" or perhaps simply ignored orders from my primary care physician (PCP) for a colonoscopy and endoscopy). It never got straightened out and it was a year before I was ready to try again with brand new orders. Also, similar to another reviewer, their communication is lacking. They took biopsies but after nearly three weeks of waiting (the results were back in one week), they never called to give me the results. I called them to get the results and when I asked for a copy, the guy I spoke with said he would only release them if I sent a handwritten request. (I get checkups from my PCP and urologist once a year and have copies of ALL of my test results from the last eleven years without once ever having to provide a handwritten request). There's just something about this place that screams "fraud" to me... "UPDATE:" Within a day of making the appointment, I got a voice mail message telling me that after checking my insurance benefits, my portion of the procedures would be nearly $2,000. That phone call included a lengthy explanation of a payment plan that I could use to pay off that amount. A week later I received another voice mail message with the same information. Upon checking in for the procedures, the first order of business was for me to pay that bill. So I did (using my credit card). Today, I got my credit card bill and the entire amount was credited to my account. I called my insurance company and they explained that the procedure was covered 100 percent by my policy. Turns out they had not checked my benefits prior to the procedure. I understand they wanted to make sure they got their money, but they lied to do so. And yes, I got my money back, but that's still fraud in my opinion. read more

This place is unprofessional!!! They canceled my first appointment and never returned my calls , then they continue to bill me for a canceled appointment that never happened. I immediately called my primary care physician and was referred to another doctor and had a very good experience. I will never do business with Colorado Gastroenterology again and they should stop billing me for an appointment they canceled. read more

Based on one short visit (is there any other kind?) I found Dr. Rufner to be incredibly knowledgeable about a wide range of treatment options for my Lyme disease as well as interpretation of test results. He was transparent about what he needed to research and easy to share information with. He is top notch in terms of brilliance, which is what you want in a doc. I have not had experience with the billing/insurance/financial aspects of the office so cannot speak to that. Making the appt. was smooth as well as was check in. I will see what the insurance chaos brings later. They could cut down on the redundancy of filling out a half hour of paperwork, having a staff person transfer that to their electronic system, and then having the doc read it. A little software update so patients can fill out forms directly online would be more efficient. Go single payer!!! read more

Five years ago I got my first colonoscopy here with no particular incident, so when I got a snail mailed reminder to get a checkup colonoscopy I booked an appointment. Last night, the night before the appointment, I realized that I had not received instructions for prep, nor a prescription for the clearcut goop you're supposed to drink the day before. So I called this morning to cancel the appointment and reschedule. Seven times over 2.25 hours. Two of which were supposed to result in callbacks and didn't. I finally managed to get assurance that my appointment was scheduled and that I would not be charged-- and no surprise, I definitely didn't want to reschedule with this operation. read more

I can't really speak about the doctors, because getting an appointment here was so incredibly frustrating, I asked for a new referral to any other gastro office - even Wolf at this point who doesn't know what a hernia is. I started going here to see Dr. Seija after a terrible experience with a gastro telling me a very bad hernia was normal. One reason I even made the appointment is I needed a form filled out proving I was disabled (Crohn's). Not only was the form completed, not only did I watch the doctor sign it, all they needed to do was fax it with official letterhead to a local number I provided them. Because they could not do that - I almost lost my job. I was able to appeal and get the form filled out by a BETTER doctor. Something about how they felt this wasn't their job, even though they agreed to do it and I have had gastro's fill out this form no problem in the past. Also, same visit? Never got the script they were going "call in" to my pharmacy either. Called and asked about that, they said they would call it in. Never did a second time. So I stopped going here. Recently, my wonderful doctor (Family Med) referred me to a different doctor (Gastro) in the same office as it's been a few years and I should get scoped. As soon as I recognized the number I groaned... Not these people again! And did they live up to their past reputation? More so! For two months I have been trying to see Dr. Frank. First, I was told they wanted to make sure they took my new insurance and would call me back. Never did. I called in again, they make an appointment with the wrong doctor even though I specified the name several times, I guess they figured I wouldn't notice? So I called back, had that cancelled and was told I needed a form completed between the two doctors in order to switch to Dr. Frank, they would handle that and call me back. They never called me back. So I called my doctor to ask for a new referral, already done with this. My doctor's office called Dr. Frank's office and was told that I was lying! All I had to do was call and ask for Frank and they would make an appointment! Pshhh, super easy! That annoyed me as I know a nurse is going to trust another nurse before a patient... But fine. I called again today... Was told AGAIN that I couldn't see Frank without a form completed... Why hadn't this been done yet? So I am asking my doctor for another referral. The office staff here is undependable, irresponsible, and unprofessional and I would avoid the doctors as a good office staff is as valuable as a good doctor. (Edit: a good office staff is usually a good indication of a good doctor too - butt heads tend to hire other butt heads, so I would guess the doctors are a lot like the staff - undependable, irresponsible, and unprofessional.) (Double Edit: The new Gastro I was referred to? They called me when they got the referral to make an appointment. I didn't have to reach out as they were on top of it! I had a colonoscopy today with Dr.Brenner she was so nice and considerate. The staff and nurses were amazing so kind. I would totally recommend Dr Brenner to anyone who needs a Gastroenterologist. She had been on n the waiting room for over an hour. This time, because I'm pretty vocal about unacceptable wait times, we waited for a half hour in the waiting area. Dr. Ruffner is GREAT!! I went to see him because I thought I was either Lactose Intolerant or had issues with a Hiatal Hernia. He said I was Allergic to the Protein Cells that are within Lactose. He gave me a Prescription that I now take once a day & it seems to have fixed my issue. Dr. Ruffnet Is very caring and takes the time to listen to what I am explaining. I have never been discriminated against for having a mental health diagnosis until I went to Colorado Gastroenterology. My experience at Colorado Gastroenterology left me crying outside of their offices. Dr. Brenner completely ignored all of my symptoms, she accused me of purposely restricting my eating, and insinuated that all my gastro symptoms were just in my head. I told her a list of foods that hurt my stomach to the point of not being able to move, and she told me that its not possible because those foods are healthy. She blamed my gastro issues on OCD, which I am not diagnosed with. I went to her looking for medical attention because I could not eat without my stomach hurting, she told me to eat all the foods that hurt my stomach and take daily laxatives. She said that if I came back in six weeks and had not followed her orders I would be looking at a Anorexia diagnosis. I was there desperate for help because I am so desperate to eat and be able to expand my diet, and she accused me of essentially lying. She made me feel like I was a crazy person. She would not let me ask questions and once she got the nurse for me, she left. This behavior from a doctor is extremely negligent and she should be ashamed of herself. I left their offices with laxatives I will not be taking, and a referral to a psychologist. I still cannot eat and digest food, I'm still exhausted all the time, and I'm still in physical pain. I cannot believe that Dr. Brenner is still allowed to practice medicine. Based on the other reviews I can see that I am not alone in my experience, shame on you Dr. Brenner and shame on Colorado Gastroenterology. read more

I understand health insurance is complex and I don't even begin to know how much control doctors have over billing. I do however work in the medical industry and I understand good patient care. After having some concerns about pain I'm having in my lower abdomen, I decided to go see a gastroenterologist knowing I would probably have to pay a couple hundred dollars. Dr. Trujillo recommended I get a colonoscopy and endoscopy. I had one scheduled and got a call from billing that it would be $1700 without any other tests included. I could not afford that so I canceled the procedures and called to ask about other options to address my symptoms. I was told I would receive a call back later that day with options and when I hadn't heard back in almost a week, I followed back up. I was told there's nothing anyone can do without having me come back in to pay $200bto re-evaluate me and schedule another procedure. When I asked about other options to speak with my doctor on the phone, I was told there is nothing else they can do. I think having someone who has already been evaluated come back in to pay for another visit, is an extremely inflexible practice. I never once received a call from the nurse practitioner or doctor to discuss my options either. This was all in the conversation with who I assume was a front desk woman who didn't know anything about what would make this visit any different than my last (as is expected, it's not her job to know what specificly happens in the appointments). I would have appreciated a call from my doctor. I left that phone conversation feeling like just a number, that I was only good for my money, and that my medical needs had not been addressed. I left feeling helpless about addressing my health issues without going into debt. I doubt this is actually how this practice wants patients to feel after interacting with them. I know there is very little medical staff can do about how much a procedure costs but there is certainly a lot of flexibility in how they can help address patient concerns. And I feel like not everything was done to address mine. read more

Then when I showed up, waited 2.5 hours, the doctor could not see me. So they rescheduled. I couldn't make their rescheduled date of 2 weeks later. So they rescheduled me another 2 weeks out. Dr. Trillioutt is amazing. You'll see numerous reviews praising him. That's deserved. Unfortunately, he wasn't the first doctor I got. When I went the first few times due to a Celiac diagnosis, I got a different doctor who I won't name. It was awful and uncomfortable. When I complained to my family practice doc, she said "Oh, you don't want to see them. They hate life and everything about it. Only see Dr. Trilloutt from now on." Good to know. Unfortunately, the nurse practitioners aren't as good. I'm in the same boat as Amie. You have to call repeatedly to get answers to simple questions - and even then it's very hit or miss on if you'll get a response. I'm currently in the middle of a two week stretch where I call every 2-3 days to try to get an answer to a simple question and I'm not having any luck. Honestly, I think I'm going to try to find another provider - as much as I love Dr. Trilloutt. Luckily for me, I haven't had any problems with the billing or scheduling staff. They've always been very friendly for me and I haven't had any issues. read more

Dr Ruffner has been fantastic explaining my procedure and what to expect, working with me to ensure I get well and stay well. Contrary to the other reviews, my experience with the office staff has been generally favorable, although I have had to "push" the office staff a bit more than other doctors to get what I'm looking for. That being said, despite the other disaster reviews, they have been relatively responsive. I have had to use the after hours on call doc twice now, and both times the very tired person on the other end of the phone was graciously helpful and calmed me down from my panic. read more

Terrible, I have been going there for a few years. Recently, I try and make an appointment and all the calls go to a voicemail box that is full. So after much digging I find a number where I can actually reach someone. I make my appointment an d then days later I get a weird voicemail saying "um uh we need to cancel your appointment we dont take your insurance sorry" Thats the voicemail verbatim so real professional. So I call them because I have a Kaiser 3-Tier POS Plan that runs on the PHCS network of doctors, I try to explain to them that Kaiser has confirmed they are a doctor in the network, this office won't even call to verify coverage. This office runs over me trying to tell me that Kaiser is HMO only which is incorrect they sell PPO plans which this office is part of! you would at leaet think they could make the call to verify coverage, to not even do that is seriously lacking on their part and shows 0 regard for established patients. So long story short because of this office I am not out of my meds and looking for a new doctor. If you need good quality care look elsewhere, the office there obviously has serious issue. read more

Well. De Rudner seemed very knowledgeable in his area of GI however I could tell he took on too many patients bc I was literally rushed out of the room. The medication I was prescribed started giving me alarming chest pain and I called to ask the doctor what do do four days later no response. Called again and talked to his patient planner said he's get back to me three days passsed no response. Called again they said I should probably just wait and stop the medication even though the doctor hadn't gotten a hold of me. I called 2 MORE times they promised every time he'd get back to me and they were sorry it was taking so long finally I called a week after all this and they said the doctor said "this was too complicated to do over the phone make an appointment" which I did 40 dollars later when all I wanted was one phone call. If you're in need of a great GI physician, look no further than Dr Trillioutt (pronounced 'tree-oh') at this clinic. He is not only a complete expert at his profession, but has the best bedside manner. He called me personally to deliver test/lab results and explained in terms that I could understand. The administrative staff here are also very lovely and warm. Thankfully, everything is okay with my belly, but if I ever needed to come back I know I'd be in good hands at Colorado Gastroenterology. read more

Dr. Trouillot cannot help you if you have IBS. If you do some research there is a lot of new knowledge coming from the GI doctors at Cedars Sinai on IBS (and elsewhere, but they are leading the way), and they have determined that approx 80% of IBS patients actually have Sibo (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth). They use lactulose breath tests, that Dr. Mark Pimental, MD. has stated are very accurate as long as methane is present in the test. Modern research is telling us that Sibo is very common, and even new doctors are being taught this (my brother in law just graduated from med school 2 years ago - he was taught that Sibo is common). Dr. Trouillot's office doesn't even do the breath tests, and he believes Sibo is nonexistent or very rare and that the breath tests are unreliable (which is true when only hydrogen is present, but it's Sibo is so common that doctors will still treat the patient for Sibo anyway if all the symptoms are present). The drug, Xyfaxin, is a really amazing antibiotic that only stays in the small intestine, which is supposed to be almost sterile, but it becomes ineffective in the colon, where our microbiome resides. It is completely non-systemic. It's the perfect drug for an overgrowth of bacteria in the small intestine. They have tested patients before and after 3 rounds of Xyfaxin, and the microbiome remained the same. Dr. Trouillot is completely unaware of all the modern research happening at Cedars Sinai. He yelled at me for having had the lactulose breath test done, which was done by an ND (which doubly insulted him for some reason), and for wanting an antibiotic, which he told me would cause the same amount of harm as any antibiotic - which is not true for Xyfaxin. I went to an ND after Dr. Trouillot told me I was perfectly fine and sent me home. The huge amount of pain, bloating and distention in my stomach told me I was not fine. The ND ran a lactulose breath test, which is used in any good western GI clinic and used by the top western med experts in IBS and Sibo. She then sent me back to my regular Dr. (Trouillot) for the antibiotic Xyfaxin. Dr. Trouillot told me that ND's are vastly different than MD's and not to be trusted. Except that she figured out what is wrong with me using the methods that are being used by MD's such as Mark Pimentel at Cedars Sinai, a western medical clinic out of L.A. She's just more hip to the modern science than he is. Dr. Trouillot is practicing medicine based off of information from over 25 years ago. We have changed as a culture, as Sibo is much more common in modern day, and the research into sibo is much better now. If you have IBS, especially if you've ever had food poisoning, get a lactulose breath test. read more
