Even though the hostel ticked nearly all the right boxes (affordable, decent location, draws a nice crowd, big common room) there is one thing that is too big too ignore that makes me rate this hostel 'terrible': they have a serious bed bug infestation and aren't doing anything about it.
At least two of their rooms - Jenny and Ragnar - are affected and have been for the past two months, so a long-term guest informed me. I had the unfortunate 'pleasure' to sleep in one of those rooms and woke up with the bugs crawling next to my head. I informed the guy behind the reception and - as there were no other free beds - spent the rest of the night sleeping in the common room. I was promised that the room would be completely desinfected, but the next night they put me back in there and I again woke up with the bugs crawling besides my face. Apperantly they just changed the bedding, I guess? By then I had, without exaggerating over one hundred bites!
I was then moved to a different room, which indeed seemed to be bedbugfree. When I came home from my short trip, I immediately washed all my clothes on a hot setting, twice. Stuff that couldnt be washed, I had to bag and put in the freezer for four days. I had to throw away my backback, cause it couldn't be machine washed or frozen. But apperantly at least one survived, as I was bitten again in my own bed. I now have to call in professional exterminators for € 400 to sanatise all possible affected rooms and have a hell of a job of clearing out all fabric items to get them dry cleaned.
All because this horrible hostel is too careless to properly get rid of the infestation they have. Save yourself from disgusting bites, having to throw away items you love and spending lots of money and effort to get rid of bed bugs and stear clear of Comebackpackers. read more
