My father, my family, and I were all aware he was dying--yet hospice staff repeatedly reminded us of this every day, both in person and by phone, with a disturbing lack of empathy. We eventually had to ask them to stop, as it became emotionally harmful. We were informed they would assist us in finding a long-term care facility, but once they left our home, that support vanished. Calls and messages went unanswered. We felt abandoned during a time when we needed them most. When my father passed away at home, I immediately contacted Hospice. The nurse who arrived expressed a brief, perfunctory condolence and then quickly asked me to help move my father's body--while I was still in shock and grief. To make matters worse, I was then asked to complete a survey about their service, while my father still lay in the room. From enrollment to his passing, this entire ordeal lasted only 10 days--but the damage done to our emotional well-being will last much longer. This was the worst experience of my life. I would not recommend Hospice of Marion County to anyone. They failed my father and they failed us when we needed compassion most.

It's very much like a five star hotel. The rooms are very large and well appointed. It could easily accommodate a large gathering of ten or more (see photos). Everyone was so kind and helpful, fully understanding the pain and anxiety the family must be feeling. It was appreciated. Therapy is very limited…read more The workers there claim they are short staffed so it cuts down on the attention you may need-like a simple cup of ice water or help going to the bathroom- the wait is very long-only to find you have messed the bed. then you are given a wet wash rag with no soap & told to clean up. d some nights no wash cloths or towels were available we were told! really?? how would you like ants crawling in youf room-even in your bed! only to be told they would enter a ticket on it. claimed they had no bug spray to use on it. how about waking you at 8:30pm while sleeping- to ask if you want to take a shower??!!! then have trouble getting back to sleep! the food is mostly disgusting -once In awhile something is edible. servings are small & no snacks available. only serve sweet tea- can't get unsweet tea. some nurses are nice but that number is few. So please look elsewhere for a true rehab center.

The entire facility smelled of urine, feces, feer and death! Upon reaching the room tgey attempted to assign to me , there was a large mess on the floor , in the entrance to my room ! One of the staff said. I told them to clean that up earlier, now what does that look like ! Being on a gurney , I couldn't see so I said , tell me what does it look like ? No one answered. My friend later told me there was what appeared to be blood and urine on the floor. The room was about 80 degrees and looked like it was furnished in 1975. Also in my room was what looked like someone in a bed with several blankets that may or may not have been alive. I saw no movement or anything spoken from this victim of avante. Needless to say , my visit was extremely short . On the way out the staff actually tried to bribe me with a hamburger to stay ! I would not bring my goldfish to this facility. I was very disturbed with this facility.

Repeated phone calls to try to straighten out problems got no response . It was only after I said I was leaving , that people came to make excuses for the lack of service and bad attitudes .
