Plaza de Mayo represents the very center of the city. As a main plaza, I have to admit that it was…read morefairly boring. It was mostly empty and there was no activity going on even in the middle of the day. No street performers or musicians or vendors. That might be the way the city prefers to keep it, but it was a stark contrast to main plazas in other big cities. There is not even a proper park here - just a few random benches.
In the end, it is what surrounds the plaza that makes it prominent. Casa Rosada sits here. That's the building that houses the Argentine national government. You'll also find the oldest cathedral and several museums surrounding the plaza.
