This is a church I'd have once given a good review for its commitment to preaching from and expositing God's word - in fact, I thought I did so. I started attending as a new Christian about 7 years ago, becoming a member soon after. I left in April this year. Though the word may be preached, there are serious flaws a prospective congregant should know about. In my time there, the largest board of elders consisted of 2 men, including the pastor. This is admittedly a challenge for small churches, but sadly I saw how a prolonged period of too few elders can play out practically. In essence, there's a concentration of power and a lack of checks. Accountability of leadship is, to me, the most glaring concern. I'll leave it at that in an effort to caution prospective congregants but also not get my post deleted. The remaining church body is in my regular prayers, but it's no longer a church I can recommend.

He teaches from a passage in one book that leads us to other passages that link to the main message. The services last approximately one hour. I leave with my heart filled with wisdom directly from the Bible. They serve communion on the first Sunday of every month. Please note, this location on Poplar Avenue is temporary while their main church is being renovated. I look forward to remaining with Grace Church of the Bay as my home church.

The warmth they have (especially towards kids) is refreshing. That appears to be part of their DNA through generations (with many families having been there for decades). Also importantly is their commitment to teaching scripture in a way that all can understand and act upon. The pastor and elders have intelligence and care in their souls, and it comes through in all they say and do. They also regularly celebrate baptisms and communion. And even if you are not Christian or have a complicated relationship with religion, they will still happily welcome you! Finally, their commitment to the well being of communities both local and foreign is concrete and steady. Ministries include serving homeless, providing relief people in war-torn areas, supporting foreign missions - all in humble and glad service for the name of Christ. Having been through a wide variety of church experiences over the years (including many not so good experiences), Waypoint is truly an oasis. Truly thankful to God for them.

The community they are building is going to do great things, and it feels amazing to be part of their story and growth. These are not "Sunday School" Christians or stuck-up Christians like media tries to paint all Christians out to be. These are people you want to live life with. They are people who care. The environment is casual dress, ok to come in jeans and tennis shoes, and like a cafe coffee shop at entrance where you can eat and drink freely of their coffee, donuts, specialty coffees and plain or fruit infused waters. The service starts with a concert type live band that brings the spirit of our Lord into your heart making you want to move and sing along and makes me tear up every time. I love their music!! Then the sermon always clear and easy to hear with videos to accommodate. The message always helps us to understand how Jesus would want us to live in this world. Oh and if you have children of every age, there are rooms with loving caregivers and youth teachers to take them while you attend in the main room. If you have been feeling like you are forcing yourself to go to your current church out of obligation or just not feeling the spirit of the Lord in your church, I recommend you try Menlo. I have been to the Menlo location which is the largest and original one, awesome place to check out at least once, but now attend the San Mateo location close to my home, smaller but more for me.

Everything you could want in a church is here: - most…read morewelcoming loving people, felt at home before I even knew any names - this is a no agenda church, every sermon is straight from scripture, I don't feel judged at all, but rather I am being taught what the Bible says - worship is SO FUN! Everyone is singing, dancing, and the atmosphere is genuinely so good, I've never felt so comfortable to let loose and enjoy the presence of God - the leadership is not only super balanced, but so wise. The pastor and/or an elder will probably treat you to a breakfast or lunch and get to know you but talking to them feels amazing. No judgement, you can definitely see how they influence the church with their openness and wisdom. - KIDS MINISTRY! It's amazing for parents, there are SO MANY KIDS AT THIS CHURCH! Such a family oriented community here. - Everyone I have talked to so far and have become friends with really take Jesus serious. There isn't a lot of two-facedness if I can say that. I love the way the lead pastor and the team of pastors connect the Bible to our lives and helps us to understand the heart of God more each Sunday. Please realize, folks over 65 are not the most comfortable with social media. Many church events, however only family and close friends who are related to the pastor get invited. This used to be a wonderfully inclusive church for decades. The new administration are young and don't appreciate anyone older than them.
