The simple fact that something is free does not diminish it's value, especially in this case. Community Impact is chock full of useful information including active and planned construction projects on local roadways. It also has a list of new business openings, old business closings and a whole host of other information that we find particularly useful. They also have a pretty nice selection of restaurant and other business coupons that we frequently use. If you never look at this publication, I suggest that you start with the next issue. Journalists are not keen to research their stories well. One example comes from an article written a few years ago that stated that Emerson moved to Round Rock to be close to Dell, and that Dell was the reason Emerson existed. Emerson has been around since 1890 and is a multinational conglomerate involved in many industries and consumer markets. Perhaps the article may have been enhanced by interviewing someone in Emerson to determine why such a large company moved out of the city of Austin. I remember when Emerson was on Cameron Road, then Research Blvd before it moved to Round Rock. Dell, as well, was near Braker and Metric before it moved to Parmer, and eventually to Round Rock. There have also been other poorly researched articles related to construction projects in the area, and I find it difficult to rely on some of the information in CI newspaper. CI may open my eyes to something newsworthy, but I must conduct my own research to accurately determine what is going on in my community. Maybe CI should consider hiring journalists who are a little older and have lived in Austin long enough to understand what is really going on in the city, or who are diligent researchers before publishing inaccurate or misleading information. read more

Community Impact Newspaper bulk mails this newspaper out for free to everyone in the different neighborhoods of the Austin area. So given how it arrives with junk mail, one might expect this paper to fail, but nope, it succeeds. It keeps me abreast of what happens in my area of Austin. I imagine it takes work to cover every neighborhood of the Austin area. The tone is a general interest tone, yet I enjoy reading the articles. The writers engage the readers. I love hearing about what is happening with local businesses and local politics in my area. They seem to avoid sensationalism, which many critics attribute to other media outlets. For those of us who want to stay in the know while reading print, yet do not want to subscribe to a paid newspaper, this newspaper does the trick. They reside on "Impact Way". I wonder how they arranged to get their street name to reflect the paper's name. This proves impersonal mail can enhance your day. read more

While I was checking references of a builder we are considering hiring I was given John Garrett the CEO of Community Impact information. I left him a message and almost immediately got a call back from him. He was so willing to speak highly of his builder. He actually invited our 3 man group for a personal guided tour of his beautiful buildings. I was amazed at how personable he was and also every employee we passed was so nice and obviously very happy to work there. What a Great company. If I was not retired I would love to work here. I also really enjoy reading the publication every month. I am always exited to see what is happening with all the new buildings going up around us. Keep up the good Community Impact read more

I'd give it 3 stars if it were actually a newspaper. It does have some reports of proposed plans in the areas of P-ville, Round Rock and Cedar Park, but I wouldn't call it ground breaking reporting. It is more editorially (opinion) oriented. No thanks, We all know what they say about opinions. It really feels like a giant advertising tabloid which some might find useful, but I don't and I wish they would save a tree and and stop cluttering my mail box with it. read more

Do you ever wonder what that big ass tabloid sized publication is that magically appears in your mailbox every month? It's called Community Impact. Contrary to what they promote, I do not believe this to be a news publication... It is a FREE monthly rag that clutters up my mail box, disguised as a news publication designed to shamelessly carry out the interests of the advertisers. If you want to read cleverly disguised advertorials peppered with editorialized content of the publisher's personal religious and political bias, instead of real news, read Community Impact. It reminds me of one of those free real estate or home publications that has articles about the advertisers. I looked at the publisher's LinkedIn page and his last 3 jobs were selling advertising not reporting the news. The boast a circulation of over 400,000 people in central Texas - but they GIVE IT AWAY. I send it straight to the recycle bin. What a waste of paper and time. They may be making money on advertisers, but they are not making an impact on the community, IMHO. Pretty ironic that they choose to call themselves "Community Impact" when in fact they are pretty devoid of any and all community participation whatsoever. They turned off the ability for anyone in their "communities" to make comments on any of their online articles a couple of years ago. How's that for community involvement? Not much care or interest in the community to do that. Their extent of interest in the community is how they and their money-grubbing real estate cronies that dictate what they write about can take advantage of the community. This advertisement publication needs to be ended and we all need real newspapers in our communities. This publication provides nothing but propaganda and coupons like others have said, it literally reads like it was written by carpet baggers and developers and is out of touch with anything going on in the community outside of the real estate and land sales. Relevant, useful, local information about property values, political candidates, local businesses and city expansion in the north Austin suburbs, delivered to my home. I'd actually pay for this but as with most newspapers their real revenues come in as a result of advertising so it is free to the readers. I love this paper its quick and to the point , What I really enjoy is all the new and its title says IMPACT News I also like that it tells me to keep track when the new thrift store will open in Nov on south congress, And it does not have all the crap you get with other papers all the coupons are in the back of the paper not a separate sheet you will forget what happen to it. From the standpoint of a local, community newspaper, it seems very solid to me. They have different editions depending on where in the Greater Austin area you are (Central Austin, South Austin, Cedar Park, San Marcos, etc.) They have plenty of information on new and upcoming businesses, sports, pertinent news, op-ed columns. etc. And I'm pretty sure it's totally free. So I really am not complaining at all! read more

Ever wonder what the creepy "We know where you live" billboard on Sixth and I-35 is for? (Don't bother going to the web site, it's horribly difficult to navigate and the 'web stories' are just regurgitated press releases) It's an advertisement for Community Impact Newspaper - a publication that claims to be local despite not having offices in any of the markets they cover except for Pflugerville and Houston. The reporters do a great job despite the publication being nothing more than a vessel for advertising . Don't you think its odd that only companies that advertise are featured in the business profiles? What they call 'non-biased reporting' should be considered 'head-in-the-sand reporting' because they refuse to acknowledge hard news in favor cheery stories about the economy that will encourage people to advertise. The gentleman who said this is everything the statesman is not is correct, because the Statesman is an actual newspaper and Community Impact clearly is not a newspaper. Community Impact is a great publication and very community focussed. For advertisers, they present a great story line and talk about their commitment to advertisers getting results. I will have invested approximately $12,000 when my six month contract is over. My firm invests more than $60,000 annually as our total marketing budget. We've had five calls and zero sales in four months. In fact, the past two months we had zero calls. This is the chance you take in marketing and I accept the risk and have no complaint with our agreement. What is hard to accept is the lack of creativity. timely communications and follow up when I expressed my concerns. Basic response was to run the same ad, only larger. $$$ Duh In their defense, they did eventually offer to run a larger ad in the back of one of the publications at a discounted price. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to proof properly and the ad went to press without proper editing or my final approval. The goal seems to be more "get the sale and have prospective client sign a contract" than helping clients get results. Follow up and communications were disappointing unless it was time for the monthly payment. I hesitated to provide this negative information as I am a business owner myself. However, I felt it important that potential advertisers with Community Impact ensure they have written commitments regarding your expectations and their deliverables to you. Not just a unilateral contract protecting their interest. Don't take anything for granted and read all e-mails thoroughly. Again, CI is a fine publication, a well run organization and obviously has great leadership. Their disconnect (from my perspective) is where the rubber meets the road. Client satisfaction and building long term relationships based on trust and results. read more

I am writing this for anyone considering advertising in this paper. Your ad is ONLY as good as the REP who services your account. In my case, I had to have the general manager get involved because my rep would return my texts 4 to 7 days after I texted her. (Even after GM involvement, service did not improve one iota!) (And P.S. to management, not having a rep who genuinely had my best interest was not good business practice either; should have given me a new rep!) I am a small business and $1,500 for 3 months of advertising is a big deal. Even if I never advertised with them again, I could have told my clients what a great company they are or that I had a great experience working with them. However, my rep was in NO HURRY to get back to me. It was documented and respectfully reported to management, yet nothing changed. It's $500 a month for the smallest possible ad, and yet, I am not worth their time. Do not expect your ad to look amazing if your rep could not care less about you, either. It will be the most generic ad and your ten year old could do a better job. You will NOT have any communication with said designer. Your rep, who basically ignores you, is the ONLY liasion between you and the designer. So, you tell the rep what you want, and she allegedly tells the designer. When you text your rep the same day the first ad comes out and you express your dissatisfaction, she returns your text (yes, text, when most people have expectation of texts returned that same day) - no lie - responds to your concerns - SEVEN days later. She will continue to put you off and delay all communication to the designer until 4 days before the next ad is due for reprint. So altho you have given 30 days notice for major changes needed, now you will go to the wire, being inconvenienced, literally an hour before cut off, to ge the ad to what you consider tolerable. Its not great, not what you envisioned, and it took an act of Congress, but its tolerable. They have the absolute worst customer service on the planet for what you pay. YOUR rate of return is not even close to what you pay. They tell you it takes consistency, so you will place more ads. I get more business on Facebook and general word of mouth, than wasting money with this publication. The level of service is non existent. ... so if you want to throw thousands down the drain and be ignored, be warned. I am so hugely disappointed with the service and results.... can not recommend. For 3 months of advertising with CI, $1,500... I got 4 clients. read more

I have been receiving Community Impact for years, and would VERY VERY VERY much like to stop getting this waste of paper in the mail all the time. I do not read Community Impact, I have never read it, I do not want it cluttering my mailbox, I do not want to have to waste my time throwing it away, annoyed at it being in my mailbox in the first place. I cannot find the unsubscribe section on their website, and it's a true inconvenience to me, not to mention a literal waste of energy and paper. read more
