My husband found this place while shopping for me during Christmas 2018. Since it was a gift, I did not learn of them until after the holiday...but let me tell you...this place is totally amazing! Scopes on top of scopes, everything you need for a scope, top-notch reading and reference materials, and super smart staff to help from start to finish. We purchased a Dob XT-G and I have been stoked since we got it. They care about their products and will bend over backwards to help you. For example, when I arrived home and tried to charge my battery, the manufacturer did not include a vital piece. A quick call to Company Seven and I had the piece in my hand the very next day. I was able to use my new found friend to see the winter sky, including the lunar eclipse of 2019. Company Seven will be my go-to for all my sky viewing needs. I've been a customer of Company 7 for over 20 years. Marty and William came through for me once again outfitting my telescope with the appropriate sized solar filter just in time for the 2024 solar eclipse. This little shop never ceases to amaze, in a sometimes disturbing contemporary economic climate of dollar-centric cost-cutting e-tailers and a market flooded with questionable-quality (as well as motives and principles ) China-made mass production where quality takes a back seat. In the 70's-80's there were still a few small telescope shops around the Baltimore area but Company 7 is the sole survivor. Their business model is split between government optical/engineered project side (business conducted via phone and e-mail from the SAME tiny shop) and retail sales of carefully vetted Product Lines...a situation requiring the SAME attention to detail, high ideals and perfection. If you are looking for toy op[tics, online price-shopping for cheapest introductory telescope or are easily offended by the lack of sales small-talk (this isn't a car dealership), I'm sorry but Company 7 may not be the shop for you. Marty, William (and Bruce RIP) and their meager retail resources and time constraints are required to focus on the needs of the dedicated domestic and international stargazer, amateur astronomer, professional and community. Walked into the shop and was thoroughly ignored by the only person in the store, while I listened to him tell someone on the phone that he was not going to deal with "consumers" anymore because all they did was come in for an hour and talk and then go buy on amazon to "save a few dollars in taxes." He was going to service his current customers but for everyone else it was too late, "they had their chance." This was all while I was standing there next to him without being acknowledged...which makes sense I guess, seeing as how I was just one of those pesky "consumers." Terrible experience. Too bad because I am a new astronomy hobbyist and had driven an hour and a half to be there and was very excited to come into the store. There are no other astronomy stores near me and I really prefer to buy from local stores. Unfortunately, I will take my advice from astronomy forums and just go....buy one online. Oh, and what is the fascination with Ross Perot? It's on his website and incredibly it was the first thing I heard him talk about to the person on the phone. read more

This is an astronomy lovers store. They have high quality AstroPhysics telescopes on display along with solar telescopes and accessories. This is where I have gone for over 20 for telescopes and advice. They do not sell "toy telescopes", but rather telescopes that amateur astronomers use. An amazing place to go. read more

I have visited Company Seven Astro Optics many times and found William and Marty (the owner) to be very helpful, informative, and fun to talk to. I've been interested in astronomy and telescopes for going on 50 years and this is the first time that I have seen a business that was dedicated to astronomical optics, accessories, and books. Their showroom displays the latest telescope and mounts alongside vintage and antique telescopes, binoculars, and even a few microscopes; so, give yourself a little extra time to wander around and check out the store. I have also found that Company 7 stands behind what they sell: If telescopes and other equipment do not meet manufacturer specifications They will return it to the manufacturer for repair or replacement.
