A no-nonsense place to come and pay pennance to the god of iron, like you'd easily find in any smaller town. After shopping all around town for a place to work out - and not screw around - it was the only one that fit the bill. It's got everything you need to get strong or huge (or whatever your goal) and nothing you don't. Its equipment is old but everything works. Feels like the Arnold years cast in amber, complete with old school bodybuilders on the walls. I had *negative* cell reception - not only did I not get any signal, I had to switch to airplane mode and back to ever get another signal after I left. This is a positive feature. I've only had one workout so far and so will update if my experience develops, but I had to express my sense of relief after shopping around about a dozen luxury daycares and finally landing on this place. read more

Complete body 19th St. is the best gym I've ever been to - - Marcella is a goddess and has shaved my body in ways that Mira mortals could never understand. Vitale is the best manager and make sure the gym is COVID-19 friendly and everything is spotless. Speaking of spotless, that's my physique after seeing Marcella for the last 10 months. Marcella will tailor your work outs to your specific goals and will even provide you with a work out plan for days that you don't train together. I recently stopped my membership to Complete and here's the run down as far as why I give it 1 star. I went to Complete for about a year. Pros: -Great equipment (could be maintained better) but some stuff you can't find anymore. -Atmosphere can be very positive with bodybuilders -Conveniently located near many subway stops Cons: -Where do my monthly dues go?? The gym is NOT kept clean. Frequently no soap in the locker room. Plates and DBs all over the place. No classes...yet 99 a month? Where's it go? -NOBODY reracks their weights. The worst are the trainers in the gym. Leaving equipment with plates. Sometimes stacks of 5lbers on machines. Sometimes they'll leave their coffee or other drinks and sit on equipment watching their client. The reracking at this gym is ridiculous. I haven't seen it this bad ANYWHERE. -Trainers...it feels like there are more trainers than members at times! They take over areas and multiple pieces of equipment at once. Never reracking or cleaning up after themselves. -Do they have staff to possibly clean, rerack, put soap in dispensers, etc....where do my monthly dues go? At first, I loved this gym. Last bodybuilding gym left in the city and maybe that's why they slack off SO much. I stopped my membership because of the Cons. Let's see how long Complete lasts. read more

Leo is awesome .He gave me a new lease of life and thinking . I am social worker and a government worker ,so i fo not make of lots of money . I first went because I kept hearing and reading everywhere that the best trainer in the city, Marcella mello worked here. Having worked with several with little results I was dubious but almost three years later she's still kicking my ass. Upon arrival the first time it was pretty intimidating. You could tell everyone there was serious about fitness. But it only took moments to witness and experience a few interactions that I realized that while everyone there was there to get stuff done, they're also some of the friendliest people, staff and members alike. Everyone from hulking bodybuilders to toned lifters doing their thing while engaging in this world I've come to know as a friendly and supportive community. You knew that Complete is their time away from the craziness outside. Everything from the great equipment some of which the old school bodybuilders used, and plenty of just really smart safe machines that have made training and growing with a prior injury achievable. Seriously, just look around and watch the trainers like Marcella, and not only will you a get a masterclass on smart lifting but also learn some really cool workout moves that you've probably never seen. Take away the creature comforts of an overpriced spa gym, and instead replace that with an environment full of motivation, inspiration and dedication and that's Complete Body. If you can't live without the eucalyptus scented towels than it's definitely not for you. I have been a member for over 20 yrs and can't express enough how much I enjoy my workouts here. The manager Vitali, is super friendly, helpful, and accomodating especially during the COVID times when everyone seems to be on edge. The staff is very strict about the mask policy and are maintaining the club and equipment very clean which I appreciate a great deal. They have a huge variety of hardcore equipment to accommodate the serious gym rats and the downstairs/basement vibe gives it its final touch. This gym has it all-from the amazing, professional staff right down to the tasty juice bar. Since the onset of Covid-19, the staff has taken the utmost care to ensure all safety guidelines and protocols are being followed. My trainer, Marcella Mello, has been the best thing that has happened to my body since I discovered puberty. Finally, the management staff has always been extremely helpful. I recently had a billing issue and Chris was professional and courteous in his responses to assist me. Coming from someone has was unfortunate enough to deal with New York Sports Club during the pandemic, Chris's professionalism was a breath of fresh air. I have been a member at a handful of gyms throughout my life and have worked with a handful of trainers. Being in the fitness industry myself, my standards are set pretty high and of all the gyms and trainers I've worked with, I knew I finally found something special when I walked into Complete Body for my first session with Marcella Mello. I had heard wonderful things about Marcella from some coworkers... "you'll see results within the first few session"... "her workout and eating regimen will be the best thing you've done for your body"... and I can honestly say - nothing has been more accurate. The first session with her I felt a bit intimidated... I didn't know if I could handle what she was going to throw at me given I had a major knee surgery a couple years prior from an injury I continue to struggle with. But I was SO wrong! Marcella has helped me gain a confidence I didn't know I needed... I can walk into her session in a horrible mood, feeling incredibly anxious or stressed and then walk out not even remembering why I was in a bad mood to begin with. The space itself is absolutely amazing. Every piece of equipment, new and old, that you could ever want or need is located in this gym. It truly is your one stop shop for strength training. While you workout, you are surrounded by some of the best trainers and strongest humans in the city... nothing is more motivating that working in an environment like Complete Body on 19th street. The staff are incredibly friendly and always want to make sure that you have the best experience possible. People in the gym give out a good vibe in terms of bodybuilding / body perfection / health and wellness. Very low key, hardcore and retro rough style. I was looking for a bodybuilding Mecca type of gym BUT was disappointed when I checked out the 19th Street location. Equipment EXTREMELY outdated! Lots of bodybuilders BUT still, equipment is beyond old. Not the cleanest facility either. Also, lighting is crappy.... dim and yellow. Not my style. read more

I joined here with a friend 2 months ago and we were first welcomed by one of the trainers bullying my friend for dropping weights while dead lifting (very frowned upon). After a second encounter with same said trainer I let the trainer know his bullying wasn't welcome. Third incident with said juice head small trainer was him getting literally in my face threating me to a fight. managers sided with juice head trainer. membership cancelled. Place has good old school machines which is why it got 1 star. There are barely any members nearly everyone is a trainer and has a client who belongs to the gym but only work out with the trainer which creates a VERY weird vibe. You rarely see any members working out alone or together. In fact when you sign up they repeatedly ask you which trainer you will be working with and when you say none they look at you quizzically. The gym does have cock roaches which is gross but if you can get a spot from a roach I guess its all good. There is a LOT of douche bag attitudes in this gym idk why maybe its all the juice walking around. VERY clicky prob bec its nearly all trainers/clients working out bec its one of the only gyms which lets trainers work there and train their clients unlike nearly all other gyms. The vibe is just weird its nothing like Better Bodies used to be which Complete Body took over. This gym has so much potential but sadly under the current management/ownership it will never reach the peak of Better Bodies it once had. read more

I joined this gym not because the facility was so great but more so i enjoyed the ambiance of the people who attended. Now this place charges 125 a month. Which is ridiculous since not all the cardio machines work. the juice bar closes at 6 pm and not open on the weekends!! * now that's just ridiculous * and it's as small as a basement, oh and the toilets as well do not always work Anyway so I had been visiting from miami , and decided to join as I said before it was about the ambiance, but then as i planned for my competitions and did the math it was a rip off. Equipment and toilet foesnt always work .. juice bar closes very early and isnt open on the weekends.. and at 125 a month best belive I better have full access. This gum is not only a rip off but thieves ..as I said I called to cancel my membership they refused and although they do not see me going have still been trying to take $500 out my account as they will not cancel until I physically walk in. I am an ifbbpro athlete I train with the best such as king kamali and victor MARTINEZ . If anything they should so lucky I even come to their gym .. please do not sign ur life away. Complete body gym ... is not worth the time or money ... I have repeatedly asked them to cancel since I loved away funny thing is when I signed up they let me sign with no contract until weeks later .. now they want to follow made up rules ??.. If you're a hardcore body builder and/or body building competitor, you'll be in good company here. It's the real deal for serious weight training. I've met and worked with some really good personal trainers here, too. The staff are warm and welcoming and the other clients are polite to one another. If you're more of a regular gym goer, you may find this place limited in choices of machines, facilities and classes. There's a class space there, but I've never seen it used. I was a regular here for a bout a year. The gym itself is at basement level and some phones won't work down there. The juice bar/cafe upstairs has limited hours and choices. the daily pass rate is high, in my opinion ($35 last I checked) and kept me from bringing my frequent out of town guests very often. I've since moved on to another gym, but still think this place is great if you're looking for what they offer. read more

Really impressed with this gym! The staff is always friendly and welcoming, the manager Vitale is very professional and courteous and greets everyone by name. The job they're doing with Covid protocol is phenomenal. Social distancing and face mask wearing is strictly enforced. Workers are seen constantly roaming the gym sanitizing all equipment. And the array of gym equipment is unmatched. You get a top notch workout, with friendly staff, and feel safe doing it. What more can you want? This gym is amazing! read more

I only give this gym a one star because I have gone to the E 57th location. The E57th location is amazing compared to this one. I started out going to that location and have been there 4-5x; I decided to try the 19th St location out since it's closer to me and disliked several things: 1. It is underground so there's no fresh air (stench of sweat) and no natural light. 2. Not as much equipment as the other location. 3. The locker rooms are much nicer at the other location. 4. The equipment is all cramped together in this place. I'm sure all the people/trainers are just as nice but the other location is much, much nicer and I'd highly recommend going there. I'd give the Complete Body and Spa on E 57th a 5 stars though! Love the amenities, equipment, and people there. read more

I overlooked a lot of cons of this gym because this is where my trainer was and I love my trainer. Cons: it's not pleasant working out in a basement. The cardio equipment is TERRIBLE - treadmills stopping unexpectedly, the elliptical machines can't adjust height, etc. One day I counted all the cardio machines that were out of service and discovered that one of every five cardio machines was broken! A lot of the benches and lifting machines have padding that is torn and falling and it has been that way for years. There are only about 4 five-pound weights that I'm always scouring the gym for when I need to increase the weight by a little bit. The pros are that the trainers (who are all independent) are all very good, have been doing their job for many years, and are all friendly people and say hi. So for training, it was a great no-nonsense gym where you could get a good workout. Then they changed the pricing structure on the trainers with no notice. They painted the gym, but didn't bother to fix any of the equipment that's been broken for years or get decent cardio machines. My trainer is moving now to a new gym and I will happily go with him. If they can't take care of the equipment and they can't take care of the people that make that gym great, I have no reason to stay. read more

I have worked out of and at Complete Body for a long time (even before it was Complete Body). Also, I have multiple gym memberships all over the city. However, Complete Body has become my favorite place to train. Over the past few months the gym has and is still in the process of making excellent upgrades to the facility and equipment. The atmosphere is good, Rob is great manager, the equipment is good an getting better and the space is big which is hard to come by in NYC. I use Complete Body for Work (training my clients) as well as some strong man, Olympic lifting, equilibrium & mobility training. Complete Body is on the rise. read more

Don't let the name fool you, this is still the same serious work out gym that 19th Street Gym was. Glad to have this gym finally reopen. Under new management it's gotten new cardio, weight lifting and training equpiment. Also a new hard wood floored work out room for classes and updated boxing equipment. Upstairs they offer spa services and laundry drop off. Also good to see a lot of familiar faces from the 19th Street Gym crew, staff and members. The new owner is doing well to retain the same spirit of the old place while giving it some needed updates. It's still growing in membership so regular classes aren't fully launched yet. Also ask about the other locations for this franchise. read more

Things were moving along quite well until very suddenly, all the trainers operating out of the gym received a notice stating that all previous pricing agreements will no longer be honored starting on Feb 1st (this was going to be in TWO weeks), and a new pricing structure was going to be implemented. The new structure had two options, both of which were going to drive up my costs significantly. While I understand that every facility has bills to pay, I strongly disagree with how abruptly this gym has decided to implement such a huge price hike. A well managed business would've addressed this issue the previous quarter so that all trainers could've had time to adjust either their own pricing or find another location. I have moved two of my trainers out to other facilities that gave us similar deals to the one we had before, and I am currently the only trainer still with this gym, albeit, reluctantly. This behavior from a business is highly unprofessional and does not generate goodwill or loyalty from the people it serves. Shame on Complete Body. I will continue my search for an alternative facility. read more

In fact all of the trainers I have encountered are super accomodating and although we are all working for ourselves, the team atmosphere is quite undeniable. My clients rave about the energy of the place and the fact that when they are there all they want to do is get busy. If your looking couches and aromatherapy, this may not be the place for you. But if you're looking for a facility that has all of the equipment you need as well as the energy coarsing through the steel of it's dumbells, Complete is your gym. I've been going to this gym for the last year or so. When I first came in to visit, I immediately felt welcome by the members and staff. It is very clear that Complete Body is proud of being a diverse and inclusive environment, and that is exactly what you will get here. Yes, I often see professional bodybuilders or top tier amateurs, but most people are fitness enthusiasts in different levels. In addition to that, Complete Body does offer the option of training with some very qualified trainers - which I do myself. However, you are always welcome to perform your workout by yourself - which I do as well, and I was never pushed to buy a session/package with anyone. The staff is very friendly, always willing to help whoever seeks their help. The equipment is unique and very well maintained, I have never seen a maintenance sign being put for longer than 2 days. New equipment gets added often and Complete Body is always trying to make the best out of the space they have. Overall, a great experience every time I walk in. read more

This gym is definitely a throwback, but with SUCH a cool vibe. I'm always super impressed with the variety of equipment and how clean they keep the gym constantly. I started going to Complete Body because my trainer, Marcela, trains her clients here. She's the best trainer in New York City...and I've had a few, even from Equinox. Nothing compares!
