The transition to working from home meant rearranging stuff to accommodate an office and work station. Fast forward 2 years, boxes piled upon boxes in the garage, having no idea what is in them or if they are empty, and the constant feeling that I know I own a specific item, but can't find it in the garage made the decision to hire someone more of a need than a want.  Alison's post offering organization services was exactly what I didn't know I needed. I reached out and was worried she'd pass on the job. Thankfully for me, she didn't. After an initial meeting, a look at what she would be helping sort through and organize, and three appointments later, I have absolutely no regrets about hiring an organizer. Alison was a consummate professional. Our appointments were focused and productive. What was an overwhelming task for me to sort through let alone create some kind of order in my garage seemed easier with Alison. She asked for my vision or goal for organizing the garage, let me know what to expect in the first actual working appointment and subsequent appointments, offered to haul away items for donation and shredding which was saved me time and kept me from setting it aside and going back through just in case I changed my mind about donating it.  I will definitely ask her to come back to help organize the house once I've mentally prepared myself for that herculean task. I was getting a bit down about the housing marketing in SF and decided the best way to combat that would be to improve our own place. We worked with Ali over the course of 5 meetings, and I was so impressed with her speed, endurance (these were *long* days), and thoroughness. We reworked the layout of several of our rooms and gave away, recycled or threw away several bins of stuff. She's really good at providing tough love ("these pants are not coming back into style, Athena. Let them go") and knowing when you do indeed really want to hang on to something. On Day 2, Laura came back & was joined by Jenny, another great organizer who is also very pleasant to work with and wonderfully organized & efficient. These two ladies are absolute gems! They both worked hard & steadily, and even managed to keep *me* on task (no small feat!). I am so very pleased with how much we got done in just two half-days. Laura & Jenny even took a bunch of stuff away to be donated to various places, which helped me out a lot, because I'm not able to do much bending or lifting. I was starting a brand new life in LA with an awesome (but incredibly busy) new job and a new apartment 6 blocks from the beach in Santa Monica. That smile quickly turned into pitiful daily tears when reality set in that I was going to have to start over with decorating an entire apartment from top to bottom while learning a new city and new job. Lots of people love home decorating...They love the shopping, the searching for deals, the looking up of things on Pinterest....well NOT ME!! Decorating genuinely PAINS me in a way that is probably unusual and unnatural for a woman but this is where I am SO lucky and thankful to know Shanna. She has saved the day for me and has stopped the shedding of tears with her genius creativity and patience. To set the scene appropriately, this was not some beautiful new apartment but rather an apartment from 1971, complete with popcorn ceilings, brown plush carpet, a pepto pink front door and a green AstroTurf walkway. Shanna immediately saw the potential in this little Santa Monica gem and encouraged me to get it and she would help me make it fabulous. Shanna worked with me for MONTHS on every single room and consulted with me on just about every single thing that I have purchased from big furniture to rugs to pillow covers to shower curtains, to dining curtains, to wall décor, even to plants that would work in my space due to my lack of natural light in some rooms. I found myself sending Shanna excessive photos options at all hours of the day before I would make a purchase and she always helped me figure out exactly what I needed with an eye that I sincerely trust. Besides the decorating, Shanna is simply a jack of all trades when it comes to pulling your home life together. She is resourceful and most of all, knows the who's, what's and where's when it comes to getting things done around the home. Also, I know her to be a master of gallery walls. Under her advice, I started collecting things that I loved and she has helped me create a really fun wall that everyone who comes over loves and compliments! Although I am not a "keeper of things" by any means, I had some boxes I never got around to going through - after living in my apartment for 6 years - and I knew it was really time to purge them. Plus, I was having a friend stay with me for a week in the beginning of the month and I needed to figure out what to keep and what to drop off at Out Of The Closet!
