The bread and pastries are so fresh and delicious. We shared the three bread sampler and the bread slices were huge. Wish they were warmed or toasted though and the bread to dip ratio was way off (not enough dip) The cinnamon roll was soft, buttery, just the right amount of sweet. This is one of my favorite bakeries in San Diego! Located in Liberty Station, it offers plenty of parking, making it easily accessible. I am back!! I love this place so much. The coffee hits here, nothing to complain about. I mentioned how I really enjoyed the cold brew in my last review/visit and this time I ordered one for myself instead of sharing with my partner lol. The food is also awesome! Got the same roast beef sandwich as I did during my first visit, and asked for no goat cheese-- this time there was no goat cheese and I thoroughly enjoyed my sandwich! (They also generously refunded my sandwich order from my last visit since I asked for no goat cheese, but they had mistakenly included it still) This time we came with more friends and got two Bread Baker plates, one savory and one sweet. What's better than freshly baked bread? A sandwich made with freshly baked bread! We came to Con Pane for a quick lunch one afternoon. Their menu takes up an entire wall from floor to ceiling, featuring their list of breads, baked goods and sandwich offerings. For all sandwiches, you can select half or whole on your choice of any of their daily breads. Given all the bread options, I asked the cashier for her recommendation and she suggested the focaccia sandwich round, so I opted for that to be the vessel for my TURKEY COBB SANDWICH ($14.95 for whole). My sandwich contained turkey breast, Applewood smoked bacon, avocado slices, crumbled Gorgonzola cheese, house-roasted Roma tomatoes, romaine lettuce and mayo. The round focaccia provided a good sturdy foundation as it kept everything in place and had a slight chew on both the top and bottom. They included about three slices of lean turkey, and I loved the smokiness from the bacon. The avocado was also perfectly smooth, contrasting with the fresh crisp lettuce. The Gorgonzola cheese was okay, but the flavor dominated each bite. My least favorite part of the sandwich was the tomatoes; they were sun-dried and ended up having a tough texture. Had I known, I would have requested to remove them and add fresh tomatoes instead since that would have also made the sandwich less dry. My lunch companions seemed to enjoy their sandwiches on the rosemary olive oil bread. This bread was softer with a little bit of chew and golden crispness just around the edges. The staff was friendly and our sandwiches were prepared much quicker than I expected, given that we visited during the lunch hour. I should have ordered one of their pastries since they looked delicious, but I didn't succumb to temptation that day. Looking back, I regret not getting a cinnamon roll. Note: This restaurant has ample indoor and patio seating, but for more of a picnic setting, check out the lawn at Liberty Station just a short walk away. read more

Con Pane Rustic Breads shop is at the Liberty Station plaza of shops. Free parking across the lot or if you're lucky as I was and got a spot curbside just steps away. Known for their rustic breads but is also a cafe restaurant serving soups, salads, sandwiches and small pizzas. I've only purchased bakery goods and that's the focal point of this review. Upon entry you immediately see the counter display of baked goods: savory and sweet with the back wall black board menu. Glad everything is made in house using quality ingredients and that's been the draw for me. On two separate occasions I've purchased bakery togo and was disappointed in the lack of taste. The scones, hazelnut twist and some loaves just tasted awfully bad, no matter if was eaten cold or warmed up. The taste lacked flavor, it desperately needed vanilla extract, french butter and other ingredients to enhance the flavors, Despite its fancy label name, the taste was sadly inedible for me. Lately, I visited other local bakeries and had such a positive experience with delicious breads and bakery goods and was hoping for the same positive effect here but sadly it was not the case. The cowgirl oatmeal cookie was the only redeeming baked good that tasted good. Service from the staffer Alicia was super nice and helpful. The restaurant cafe space offered indoor only seating and was busy with diners, perhaps the prepared foods is good. I mostly overheard multiple orders for the turkey cobb sandwich, but I was here for the breads and bakery togo. I am reluctant to return and repeat buying goods I can't eat, so for these reasons I cannot recommend for now. read more

They built this in Liberty Station and old navy base now a historic site. The food is delicious! The breads are mouth watering and scrumptious. The service was very good. When visiting San Diego you have to visit this cafe as well as all the others located here. This grilled cheese sandwich and roast beef was our favorite. But try them all. When I was a kid we drove by on weekends on the way to Shelter Island.  I wondered what it was like on the other side of the barbed wire fence.  This spot was Naval Training Center San Diego and off limits to civilians.  Now it's Liberty Station and there are many historical buildings you can view.  Con Pane is located in one of those old buildings.  Inside I'm greeted by the scent of fresh bread.  I picked up a Pan de Muerto to celebrate Dia de los Muertos. Pan de Muerto had a light layer of sugar on top and was light and fluffy.  Loved the fresh flavor of the bread with a strong star of anise flavor and some sweetness. On previous visits I've tried:  Small french baguette was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Flavor like La Brea Bakery french baguette.  Nice and mellow.   Ciabatta loaf was not as a crunchy and a bit sweeter than the french baguette.   Orange sugar bun was like a cross between a cinnamon roll and a sugar raised donut.  Instead of cinnamon the predominate flavor was orange zest.  This is likely an acquired taste as I'd prefer a cinnamon roll.  I do love the sugar sprinkled on top like a sugar raised donut. Vanilla shortbread cookie.  Mix of sweet and buttery flavor.  I love shortbread cookies and this one was fresh and delicious. I enjoyed everything I tried here but Bread & Cie remains my go to spot for french baguettes. read more

I loved Con Pane in its original spot on Rosecrans St,, where Point Loma Fish Shop is now, but was less ensorcelled once they moved the bakery to Liberty Station, an area that favors pedestrians and people on bicycles over people driving automobiles. What's more, I was skeptical when, in 2020, the mostly average Cohn Restaurant Group (CRG) rescued the by-then shuttered Con Pane from issues linked to an I-9 immigration audit, by buying the business, lock, stock and barrel, temporarily retaining Con Pane's original owner, Catherine Perez, as a consultant, to train CRG's the baking team and to share her recipes. But that takeover seems to have gone well. The foods produced by Con Pane are as good as ever. Parking at the location still sucks, and with luck, the Cohns will decide that such an excellent bakery deserves a better setting, and move it. read more

You had me at homemade bread. My friends who are also big foodies recommended this place and boy was it everything they said it would be. Prices are pretty fair, given the quality and freshness of the food. The turkey club sandwich was amazing! Though it sounds pretty basic, there's nothing basic about it. It's seriously a sandwich made to perfection. I of course also took some sourdough home to eat and enjoyed it throughout the week. The cinnamon roll was also delicious. Loved that they put an extra side of cream cheese glaze on the side. I wanted to buy and try everything that was on display but I guess that just means I need to keep on coming. I can't wait to go again. This restaurant is a 10 out of 10 all around, even service was great! Try to get there before 12 to get good parking and avoid long lines. Word of the wise, don't go during lunch time as this place gets hectic. Upon arrival we were surprised how long the line was around 12:30p on a Wednesday afternoon. There were no available seats and the staff seemed pretty overwhelmed. However we were there for just bread so fortunately for us there's a separate line which had no one in it. After a few minutes I managed to make eye contact with someone who immediately helped us though you could tell he was super stressed out. We placed our order then was asked if we wanted our bread sliced, a quick no was our reply. He grabs a load of bread and starts to slice it, lol. That's how crazy it is in there. Anyhoo, he caught himself about halfway through and got us another loaf. Within a few minutes had a bag containing a sourdough boule, sourdough baguette and a sourdough epi. Honestly I don't think I'd ever eat in-store. It was crazy busy, stressful and loud. I however have ordered delivery a few times and will say that's probably the best route if crowds stress you out like they do me. We've been to Con Pane before, but today we came for its Kouign Amman Festival.  Readers of my reviews know that my wife and I are devotées of this French pastry treat.  The aroma of freshly baked bread and pastries greeted us when we entered the bakery/café, almost turning my head to other treats in the cases. Rather than waiting in the queue for breakfast items, we went to the cashier for bread and pastries only.  The cashier was friendly and attentive. We had our Kouign Amman in a matter of minutes, and we found a deuce (table for two) with no wait -- confession, we brought our own coffees. The Kouign Amman was very good (4/5 $3.75 each).  We lingered over these layered pastry treats .... and almost ordered to more! Okay, so typically I love this place. They have the most delicious fresh bread. My favorite is the Gruyère chive which is only offered on certain days. It's frustrating though because they won't use it in their sandwiches unless you purchase the whole loaf. It's not like that with their other breads. Today I ordered the Turkey Cobb no mayo (I'm allergic and specified so). When I received it, it had mayo. Usually they are careful. They did quickly remake the sandwich so it worked out in the end. My only other concern is that it is not very accessible. A wheelchair has to go through the back, not the front entrance. This can be a pain because the person has to get to the front door to realize they can't get in that way. It's a challenge for strollers too. Other than that they are amazing. read more

Con Pane is a MUST VISIT whenever I visit San Diego and it has found it's way into my kiddos hearts in the same way. This visit we came on a Saturday (risky as it's very busy and seated is very sparse) but I really wanted a chocolate loaf roll for my treat this visit. The kids all requested their OWN brioche cinnamon rolls and begged to split a chocolate croissant. My parents tried the chocolate twist and a scone along with coffee. Con Pane has surely expanded their menu and now offers milk alternatives as well as many new fresh breads. We were all delighted with our treats although I'd skip the chocolate croissant next time and try the almond croissant instead. The chocolate bread was good, but not as amazing as I remembered. While definitely an expensive place it's an absolutely delicious bakery restaurant. They're very very good at what they claim to specialize in - baking bread. All their loaves are delicious but I'm an especially big fan of their rosemary olive oil and their Gruyère and chive breads. Don't sleep on the chocolate bread too. As for their actual food I heheh well delicious but I'm an especially big fan of their turkey cobb which is my go to and the grilled cheese. Both are excellent filling sandwiches and while the ingredients are fresh it's the homemade bread make it. Their coffee and pastries remain good too as their cookies especially chocolate chip and cowgirl are hard to resist. Their staff are fantastic and they'll always help no matter how busy while the ambiance is that of a great bakery cafe. You're going to pay for premium but the food makes it worth it and in this world $15 for a full sandwich is actually a decent price. It's highly recommended as one of the best bakeries in town and worth it. read more
