Back in 1998, when I was trying to purchase a house, I needed help repairing and improving my credit. That's when I met an incredible team at Second Chance Financial -- John, Karen, and Wayne. From the very beginning, they treated me with kindness, honesty, professionalism, and genuine care. Thanks to their help and guidance, I was able to buy my home back in 1998. Now, 28 years later, I find myself reaching out to them again for assistance, and to my surprise and gratitude, Karen and Wayne are still there. That alone says so much about the dignity, integrity, and stability of this company. It shows not only how they value their clients, but also how they treat and respect their employees. What always made them different is that they never treated me like "just another client." Over the years, they would occasionally call simply to check on me and see how I was doing. That level of humanity and compassion is very rare today. If anyone needs honest and trustworthy help with their credit, I truly recommend Second Chance Financial. These are good people who genuinely care about helping others rebuild and move forward in life. Thank you, Karen. Thank you, Wayne. And may God bless the memory of John, who is no longer with us. Your kindness and help will never be forgotten.

As a degreed Accountant, MBA, and working in Fortune 500 Corporate Finance for over 30 years I have…read morebeen seriously investing since my late '20s. Before working with professional advisement, watched my wife's and my portfolio grow from five, to six and to finally seven figures. Would consider myself an experienced personal investor. However, portfolio grew stagnant (stayed in prior winners, now losers too long), leveled offed, and was not achieving desired returns, and was often radically up or down pertaining to market whims. Found myself even being experienced, being emotional in making needed financial decisions. Thus decided to finally pursue and rely on professional financial investment advisement for better consistent long term returns. Went thru a most thorough rigorous search and review process to choose the right Financial Advisor to entrust my entire now seven figure portfolio. This was a four step process that entailed screening firms for the right kind of (1) financial advisor formal university education, (2) investment training & licensing (CFP, CFA or CPA etc.), (3) firm reputation, especially local reputation, not just based on a national name recognition and (4) firm Investment style and practices. Basically wanted a firm that primarily were not just a bunch of financial salespersons (who got into the business a few years ago and primarily earn their income generating financial product sales) and genuinely care about the long term growth of their clientele. It would not make sense to invest my hard earn money with advisors who knew less (often far less) about Finance, and even less about the real Stock Market than me! I would sincerely say that 80% to even 90% of the firms out there do not meet or even close to my set standards (which should apply to you if you are a serious investor). Thus took almost two years to find the right firm to meet my set standards and long term goals. Personal care was of course considered, but all said $ results matter! After initial on-line screens in the dozens, went thru nearly a dozen actual person to person firm interviews. That said, I chose Gould Asset Management in Claremont, now going on four years, and have not looked back. They have the highest credentialed, formal finance educationally trained, market tested experienced, personnel with a better than Gold reputation in the community. They developed a medium and long term plan which I have entrusted my entire family's portfolio (with highly protective safeguards that they incorporated at the broker house level, i.e. Fidelity, Schwab, etc.) I have now been getting better consistent steady returns with softened market fluctuations. Guarantee you will only find this level of firm competence, financial investment knowledge, and true customer care and financial planning to meet your needs and goals only with Gould Asset Management and a few firms perhaps in the LA highest rent districts, think Bel-Air or Beverly Hills. Young or older as myself, if you are serious about developing a well planned diversified portfolio, look into Gould Asset Management. Ten, twenty years from now, you will be glad you did. For years, our experience with America's Christian Credit Union was largely uneventful. We used…read morethem for most of our banking needs, and my mother-in-law has maintained a HELOC through them. As basic banking customers, we rarely needed special assistance and had no major complaints. That changed when we needed historical HELOC statements for a legal matter. We first visited a branch in person and were told there was nothing they could do at that time, but that someone would contact us by phone. That call never came. After following up ourselves, we were informed that obtaining the statements would cost $10 per statement plus an hourly research fee. We were also told that the statements had already been emailed monthly over the years, with the implication that we should have maintained our own records. While that may be a reasonable expectation for some customers, my mother-in-law is elderly, and many people rely on their financial institution to help access historical records when needed. That's one of the reasons people choose to bank with established financial institutions in the first place. For a HELOC that has existed for roughly five years, the quoted fees could have easily exceeded $600 before any hourly charges were added. To put that into perspective, Wells Fargo was able to provide years of archived statements in about 30 minutes at no charge. After expressing our concerns, we were eventually told they likely would not charge us after all. However, we only received approximately two years of statements, leaving the original issue unresolved. What disappoints me most is not the fee itself, but the lack of customer service and willingness to help. Between the missed follow-up, the inconsistent information, the excessive fees initially quoted, and the incomplete records provided, the experience fell far below what I would expect from a financial institution that promotes trust and customer care. If you never need anything beyond basic banking, you may never encounter these issues. However, if you ever need historical records, assistance with an older account, or support during an important legal or financial matter, be prepared for a very different experience than what you might expect.
