This temple was built in 1928-1930 for the Reform Jewish Congregation Emanu-El of New York. The church seats 2,500 worshippers and is one of the largest synagogues in the world. I believe it is the largest in the United States. There's a wealth of information about this church on the internet if you're interested. I can attest to the welcoming reception visitors receive when you visit. It's always open for everyone. I'll never forget when this synagogue had the service for Joan Rivers funeral. I watched from across the street. If you look up Congregation Emanu-El of New York there's a list of the notable members and funerals. I'm recommending.

He went for services on Saturday morning, and said there were tons of people there and he was very impressed generally. They noticed that he was new and invited him to roll up the torah, which was cool of them if you ask me. He also reported that the kiddush was the biggest he's ever seen and the cholent was a lot like his grandmother used to make. Overall, the most glowing report about a synagogue my dad's ever given. So, if you're in the area, go. Also, they have an emeritus rabbi who was ordained in 1935 and still attends services regularly. Pretty cool.

But one thing is always constant--great spiritual services and a great kiddush to socialize and mingle with fellow Jews. Scotches, bourbons, chulent, kugels are some of the selections you will find on any given shabbat. The contrast of the old and new, Rabbi Kleiman and Rabbi Shloush, a 150 year old congregation and building, versus an energetic young professionals group called "The L'Chaim Club" just makes this place a must see. I highly reccomend stopping in either Friday night or Saturday day.

It's a great idea to create a networking scene, so you could check it out if you want to meet people, although most of them are odd ducks. There were a few creeps who literally followed me throughout the event. A lot of them are established, interesting people, but the turnout is light. The crowd is typically the same peeps each time, so if you've gone once, I wouldn't feel the need to go again if the aim is to meet new people.
