I was so blessed by this little school. My daughter really enjoys her time there, she always talks about her teacher Mrs L. and all her friends. I've never had any concerns for my daughter being neglected or treated harshly etc. She mimicks the way everyone talks to her and its always kind and calm LOL. She is always happy to tell me about their little crafts they do, she sings the songs they teach and I really like that they incorporate some simple Christian teachings. We are having to move and honestly the only sad part of the move for me is leaving this preschool! The school is always clean and well organized and available to be contacted very easily. Highly recommend this school and have recomended to several friends of mine already.

Until this current school year, we were satisfied with our experience. In fact, we actively recommended them to other families. I can no longer do so in good conscience. Distance learning during a pandemic is difficult for all involved, both staff and students. My daughter began this school year doing distance learning. She was not doing well at all; she struggled. We requested extra help for her in the form of a detailed daily schedule to follow, since both parents are also working full time. The school instead gave her daily one-on-one time with the founder, Ms. Betty. Even with this daily help, our daughter was not completing her work, so her father and I were spending evenings checking on her assignments in Google Classroom. During this checking, we came across a story that had been assigned to my daughter's class for a reading comprehension assignment. This appalling story is shown in the pictures attached to this review. After a moment of "does that really say what I think it says?!?", my husband and I decided to email the school's administration and the classroom teacher. We were already very frustrated because of our daughter's distance learning issues, so my email was direct and to the point. This is racist. It is unacceptable. Why is your school using a 50 year old reading curriculum? What other overtly racist stories are in this curriculum? Why isn't the classroom teacher reading what she is assigning to students? I expected to receive an apology and a solution. What we got instead was the most unprofessional email I have ever seen to come from a school administrator. The administrator agreed to research a new reading program to purchase based on the age of the materials, but then told us that we had accused them personally of being racist and that that was offensive. No apologies for the content of the story. No "oh my goodness, I didn't realize that was in there". No admission that the story was unacceptable. Just defensiveness and blame-shifting. We requested to be released from our Spring tuition contract, and that request was granted. We withdrew our daughter and enrolled her in public school. We had paid our tuition in full through December, so we are out several thousand dollars, but felt that this was the right course of action given the circumstances. For the record, we do not accuse any individual of personally being racist. However, racist materials were clearly present in their curriculum and were distributed to students. We believe other parents should be aware of this incident when they are making decisions about how to educate their children.

Towards the end I think she could tell I was irritated and offered my son things to keep him occupied while I left. My overall feel was these "teachers" don't like being there. I did not like this environment. When The lighthouse opened we made the switch and it was night and day! My son was SO EXCITED for daycare because the staff is AMAZING! I got constant updates, I don't have to ask for his meals to be updated through the day, he was engaged, the teachers are engaged and happier. I would never suggest Stepping stone to anyone.

As a parent who once strongly believed in the Charter's school's promises of individualized attention, a strong focus on community, and quality education, I am now deeply concerned and let down. Our experience with this charter school was nothing short of constant stress and disappointment. What was once presented as a nurturing, student-focused environment has devolved into a place where retaliation against children and a complete lack of accountability from the administration have become the norm. Unfortunately, my child was subjected to an incredibly unjust situation where certain teachers allowed themselves the right to take a biased matter into their own hands. Rather than addressing concerns through the proper channels, the teacher acted out of what appeared to be personal frustration or bias, directly targeting students in a retaliatory manner. Whether through harsh disciplinary measures, humiliation, or isolating students, their actions were entirely unprofessional and inappropriate. What's even more disturbing is that when as a parent raised these issues with the administration, I was met with excuses, deflection, and a refusal to take responsibility. Instead of addressing the teacher's behavior or investigating the situation, the administration seemed more interested in protecting its staff and reputation than in ensuring a safe, supportive environment for the students. The lack of accountability from leadership has left us feeling helpless and betrayed. It is unacceptable for administrators to turn a blind eye to such misconduct, especially when it involves retaliatory actions against children. Their refusal to enforce proper protocols and their failure to provide any meaningful resolution have allowed these harmful behaviors to continue unchecked. This school prides itself on being an alternative to traditional education, but it has failed to deliver on its most basic promise: to prioritize the well-being and growth of its students. Retaliation, lack of professionalism, and administrative inaction have created a toxic environment that no child should have to endure. Teachers must be held accountable for their actions, and the administration must take responsibility for its failure to manage these situations appropriately. Until then, I cannot in good conscience recommend this school to any parent who values their child's emotional and educational well-being. To make matters worse, the school seems more focused on maintaining appearances than genuinely resolving the issue. Transparency is non-existent, and when pressed for updates or solutions, we were met with defensive attitudes instead of constructive dialogue. This is not what we signed up for when choosing this school. Charter schools are supposed to offer an alternative to traditional public schools, but unfortunately, this one has proven to be no better--if not worse--in dealing with critical issues.
