My wife and I started our honeymoon with two nights in La Luna suite, one of only three rooms at the hotel. Prior to our stay, I emailed several times with the staff to hammer out some details. They provided a beautiful complimentary bouquet of white roses in our room, which was more of a luxury one bedroom apartment with kitchen and superb bathroom. Emails were returned within a matter of minutes, and always were very pleasant. Our initial flight to Mexico City was delayed for four hours, and we missed our opportunity to visit the archeology museum. When we arrived to La Valise, we were welcomed with a shot of very tasty mezcal and freshly sliced orange. The hotel then delivered our luggage to our room along with the remainder of the bottle of mezcal while we went for a walk in the neighborhood, again complimentary. The attention to detail in our room was superb. The bathroom was supplied with excellent soaps and shampoos, along with fragrant bath salts to use in the claw foot tub. The refrigerator was stalked with complimentary still and sparkling water, beer, and juice. Wifi was excellent, with a UE Boom speaker and Apple TV provided. Breakfast was fresh and delicious, and the complimentary coffee provided by the shop next door was exceptional. The icing on top of our trip happened when we unfortunately left a cell phone in the back of an Uber. We left Mexico City early the following morning, making it impossible for Uber to return our phone to us. The hotel helped us facilitate calling our carrier to turn off service to the phone, and volunteered to allow us to use them as a contact for the return of the phone. The manager, Roberto, communicated with us frequently to let us know the phone had been returned, and is going to meet us at the airport in several days to hand deliver while we have a lengthy layover on our return home... On Christmas Eve Day!! I cannot recommend this hotel enough. It exceeded our expectations.

The UE roll added an atmospheric vibe, perfect for lazing around the suite. The only con, if any, is I wish they had more lights in the room. I highly recommend this lovely little hotel. But after my stay here, I can say they were absolutely right!!! This is the most perfect hotel/B&B EVER. I'm so glad I stayed here over other soulless hotels that were cheaper. From the first welcome to the last goodbye, every staff member here has made us feel so warm and cared for. Breakfast: This was my absolute favorite part -- I usually don't care for hotel breakfasts because I'm always on the go, but once I had the first bite, I moved our itinerary around so that we could get their breakfast every morning! They start around 7am with the bread and coffee, but the hot breakfasts start at 8am and end at 10am. I got to try chilaquiles, enchiladas, and enmoladas while I was here, and they really make them with heart and soul! These were the best things I ate during my trip to Mexico City! Also really loved the outside garden in the mornings with all the greenery and birds chirping. Location: in the heart of La Condesa, walking distance to Roma Norte, both neighborhoods were great for strolling through parks and art galleries. We ubered to other places further away and it was so cheap and convenient. Rooms: We stayed here for 4 nights and went to Oaxaca for 3, then back to the Red Tree House for the last night, and both rooms we had were cozy and comfy, with AC. They have great shampoo/conditioner and shower gel, amazing water pressure and temperature, everything was so clean, and I got to sit outside in the balcony and took it slow for the last morning we were there. Housekeeping was amazing, everything was perfect when we came back every night. Safety: They lock their front doors and the front gate so you need your key to get in, and there's a safe in every room. Happy Hour every night 6-8PM: This was such an unexpected bonus! I didn't even plan for us to be at the hotel during those hours because I wanted to see everything in CDMX, but it ended up raining during those hours and we went to one, and it was so much fun chitchatting with other like-minded travelers who shared what they loved about their trip -- We ended up going to a few more & got so many tips from other guests! The hotel dogs Romeo & Booz - I love them and miss them so much! Side note: I LOOOOVED all the art work and interior design and colors. I have basic level Spanish skills, but I'm definitely not equipped to deal with unexpected or complicated problems that might pop up--so it's useful to have have English-speaking staff on hand. The hotel also advertises a hotel shuttle (available for an extra fee). All good. In theory. I arranged to have the shuttle pick me up at the airport since I was coming in pretty late. The hotel said the driver would be waiting for me in reception with my name on a sign. Perfect. Except when I emerged from passport control, the driver was nowhere to be found. And then he started texting me...in Spanish. I translated the texts and answered him back (in translated Spanish). I managed to get to the door where he said he was waiting. Except he wasn't there. And then he called me. My Spanish isn't nearly as strong as it needed to be to successfully take a phone call like that...especially not when late at night when I've been flustered. I eventually found the driver, but the whole thing was a bit of a clusterf***--nothing went as the hotel promised, and my basic Spanish knowledge didn't help the situation. So I finally arrive at the hotel, and the front desk guy is ensconced behind BULLET PROOF GLASS. That didn't exactly make me feel good about the hotel. Not only that: the desk clerk didn't speak English, as the hotel advertised. He was also surly (not sure if he's generally surly, or if he was just mad that my Spanish wasn't better). But whatever--we finally figure things out, and I go to my room. By the way, the room key was on a maxipad-shaped plastic key ring (not just shaped, but the size of a maxipad. The key ring was massive). The room was . . . fine. It was very clean, so it had that going for it. There's a step down into the room that I wasn't expecting. Very basic: bed, a desk, a bar to hang your clothes, a pad of paper, and a pen. Bathroom was large for a hotel bathroom. I discovered that to get hot water, one must allow the shower to run for about 10 minutes with only the hot water turned on--which make me feel guilty because there's a sign on the wall asking guests to help conserve water. There were two windows (one in the room, one in the bathroom) that overlooked an internal courtyard. Also, there's no air conditioning (which I knew and didn't care about), but because of the location of the windows, it's difficult to get air into the room. As I found out, the walls of the hotel are eggshell thin. You can hear traffic from the boulevard outside. You can hear people walking down the street and talking. You can hear your neighbors in the hotel having sex, taking showers, farting, coughing, laughing, partying. And it never seems to quiet down. The other staff I encountered were friendlier than the night clerk on my first night, but I didn't get the idea anyone at the hotel spoke English. I would advise the hotel to drop that in their advertisements since it's not true. The good things about the hotel: the location is good, and there's an outpost of El Moro right next door. Great churros doesn't quite make up for the rest of it, though. Hotel Monarca doesn't represent Mexico City very well to tourists.

While I prefer a vodka martini with a twist. We were told that each Saint Regis has their very own Bloody Mary recipe per location worldwide. These are slightly adjusted recipes to reflect the locally sourced native ingredients. There's even a beautiful book on this that one can purchase called the Saint Regis Bloody Mary book which I would love to order for my husband and our ever growing culinary library. It's a wild blended interior or great art, deep pulsing music and even the wallpaper the WC is excited to see you. And like everything in Mexico City, there is a perfect use of brick, cement and beautifully crafted handcrafted wood. A Moulin Rouge like tenting surrounding the sushi bar and cocktail glasses larger than your face. The decor matches the tastes of this awesome menu. The menu was expanse and very cool from local Mexican concepts as well as an entire Sushi rollout that makes a person feel everything. Well traveled and have access to nations. I recommend the sushi, the spicy salmon, the Tacos De Hugos and a small key line dessert. The wines have their own presentation here with an attached glass bauble of an aerator and when one orders the white wine it's presented in a sup zero frozen wine glass complete with vapor. Upon arrival, the valets quickly assisted with our luggage and directed us to the front desk where we were greeted warmly by the staff. As the receptionist completed our registration, a lovely woman by the name of Mariel arrived with our drinks. Mariel and the valet showed us to our room; 104. I highly recommend getting the breakfast package, as the food and service were impeccable. Taynet, Miriam, Alejandro, and Lucia were an absolute delight. Every morning we were greeted with a warm, friendly, smile, and shown to the table of our choice. The food was excellent. The freshest fruits and breads, the eggs, waffles, chilaquiles, and French toast all of the highest order. The service provided by the staff mentioned was without reproach. On one of the days, the concierge, Miguel Angel, was kind enough to give us a tour of the historical building and provided us the rich history of the building in all of its inceptions. A fascinating history indeed. Another day, Friday, I had to take an important, emergency meeting for work. Mariel, the hotel's concierge, made the concentrated effort to provide me a private conference room for which to take my business meeting...compliments of the hotel. Lastly, I cannot speak more highly of the attention to service provided by staff at The Brick Hotel. You see, the hotel is a boutique hotel, meaning--there are only 17 rooms. As such, the staff have an opportunity to know each guest by name. As my husband and I discovered as we were always greeted by our names "Don Osvaldo", "Don Luis". A few notes about Casa Goliana - It is gated and they have 24 hour security that let you in. Area is safe and this seems standard for bed and breakfast in the area. It is one flight of stair up to the reception area. We were in a King Suite which was another flight up - stairs were fine for us, but a consideration if you have mobility issues. Location is great - a few blocks from Collima which is where all the great restaurants are and not far from Parque Espana which is a great place to walk around. Noise level - a number of reviews state this place can be loud. When we stayed, we were one of 2 rooms there. It is an old house that has been converted to a B&B - I think a total of 9 rooms. Creaky floors in some spots, and the wardrobe in the room was loud if you didn't attempt to soft close the doors. However, it didn't bother us and since we normally pack ear plugs when we travel so we had no issues with a sound sleep. Bed was really comfy by the way. In the middle of the night it would start making a buzzing noise, and not the kind of white noise you can sleep through either. It also didn't feel that cool at night, it was kind of humid. We didn't complain because everyone is so nice there! Hence the 4 stars for the AC... The place is homey and beautifully decorated. The mister and I really enjoyed our stay. We would definitely recommend it. There's plenty of places to walk around the area too. We used Uber, so it was convenient. It's only a 20 minute drive to and from the airport.
