First of all, you can't beat the price. This place is Old school, cash only, know what you want so you don't hold up the line. I think they are only open weekdays. It's a free comedy show in there while you wait! But anyway, back to the sandwiches. They are made fresh, they make them piled high and fat. Can be messy! You may only be able to eat half. I checked yelp and couldn't believe my eyes looking at the menu, is it possible that the sandwiches are that inexpensive? Established in 1958, this place is old school. I imagine that not much has changed since then, still cash only and wrapping sandwiches in wax paper. Reminds me of the type of deli sandwiches that I would get from the butcher or corner deli growing up. I've been a couple times now and both times I order the basic turkey sandwich, it comes on a nice fresh soft roll with lettuce, mayo and turkey. Love Joe And Mary. They have been running Constanos literally forever. Joe and his son, (could be grandson as long as they've been open)... are the only ones operating this sando pub shop now every time I do get to visit. It's located right in the middle block of 3rd st & Hudson. The sign has been repainted for easier visual appearance, that was nice to see. If you are from the area you definitely have heard of "Joe's sandwiches". Business operations are from early morning, approximately 6:30 am and by 2 pm they are closed. Construction workers and early busines movers and shakers are the most frequent, however they are a neighborhood staple. The sandwiches here don't disappoint either. So price worthy. You can have your own choice made sammie by Joe personally, or if you are in a rush, the counter provides a variety of different sandwiches prepared fresh for quicker purchase. The bread is always super fresh, and the sizes never disappoint. They provide everything to that goes along side a sandwich plus other miscellaneous item to purchase. I don't know how, and why these sandwiches are so simple yet so deliciously special to me. It could be a "city thing". It is such a pleasure when I can make It to Hunters point early enough to nab me a sandwich from them. They are definitely worth the trek! read more

Literally the highest quality of a cold sandwich (massive sandwiches w/ an array of meat , bread and condiment options) and cheapest in San Francisco -- the place is a classic SF gem, old school (cash only) , the two sons that help run the ship are comedians and it's your classic mom and pop type of joint (they don't make these anymore). The mom and pops still work the counters with the two sons. Its always a blast going there and brings out an original San Francisco vibe. Fun fact : my parents used to come in when they were kids and the sons would be helping make the sandwiches (age 7 or so), now the grown sons (age mid 50-60s) continue to make the sandwiches and help run the shop. read more

This sandwish shop on 3rd street in Bayview has been open since 1958. For that alone, I confer five stars. For it's very reasonably prices sandwiches ($3.50-$3.75), I'd give it another star. Because Constanso's is an old world gem integrated into one of the more unglamorous SF districts, five stars. I'd stick 5 star stickers onto the woman who's been working Constanso's since 1958, and still mans the till. A family owned business, you'd be hard pressed to find a better pastrami sandwich in all of the bay area. They have the normal standards: roast beef, turkey, etcetera. All wrapped and ready to go, which is their modus. If you want mayo or mustard, they add it to the sandwich at the point of sale, so that the bread won't be soggy from soaking up mayo. I love that consideration. In addition to sandwiches, sodas, beer, chips, and other quick to go filling station type items are available. Giants hats, 49er's hats, as well. I wish I could go not and get a turkey sandwich. It was a real pleasure engaging the family in lighthearted banter there! read more
