I started going to Contemporary Care several years ago when it was run by the founder, Dr. Fry. Unfortunately, when his son in law took over the practice it rapidly went downhill. I experienced a mental health episode, where I was feeling depressed and was having difficulty carrying on my work responsibilities. I had consulted with another doctor from Amazon who had immediately prescribed medication, which I took for a couple of weeks. I didn't care for being automatically prescribed meds without a proper consultation, so I tried for a second opinion. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The doctor I spoke with scolded me for taking the meds, told me I shouldn't have consulted with that prescriber, and in effect blamed me for having a problem.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] At the time, it was a shocking experience, but now I can appreciate that consulting the "wrong doctor" wasn't my mistake, and that the provider was incredibly inept in the way she handled my case. If you've had a good experience at this clinic, I'm glad for you, but I would advise you to seek help elsewhere. They're still looking for $300 in payment for the consultation via a collection agency, 2 years later, but they'd have more luck searching up their own deep dark orifices. read more

So, once again they forgot an appointment and scheduled 2 other appointment on dates one week apart. I go every 3 months, NOT weekly. Yesterday's 11:00 telemedicine appt was a no go. Office never called. At 11:10, I called them and left a message and was assured I'd hear back by the end of the day. Not a chance! Finally spoke with someone today and was informed my appt is next week, DESPITE ME HAVING AN APPT CARD FROM THEM FOR THIS WEEK. The worst run medical practice ever. read more

Dr. Perera literally saved our family member's life. He was there every step of the way while our loved one went through a long, complicated mental health crisis. He helped us explore new, innovative interventions, was open to consults with Yale, and was always just a phone call away when things took a bad turn. He listened to our concerns and feedback about the medications or treatments were helping (or not) and made changes accordingly. His assistant (Danielle) was wonderful and super responsive. Our family member is now doing well, living and working, and enjoying life. We are quite sure our family member would not be here today if it were not for Dr. Perera's willingness to keep trying new things and not giving up. read more

I went through a period of extreme anxiety and spiked ADHD symptoms and finally went to get help. My first appointment with Margaret Scalia, APRN was pretty basic; had me answer questions on a sheet of paper that went over signs and symptoms of ADHD. Based on my answers, she diagnosed me with ADHD and suggested Adderall. I tried it for a bit and found it made me even more anxious than usual. When I went to my next appointment, apparently there was a scheduling issue and they didn't have record of my appointment, even though I got a reminder. Margaret wasn't even there, but then walked in with her lunch. I was told to wait a couple of minutes and she would see me. 35 minutes later I go up to the receptionist and she then went down to Margaret's office and I was brought back there. We discussed my issue with the Adderall (while staring at her computer screen the entire time, and she suggested I try a new medication. I asked her to send it to Express Scripts, who I used for my Adderall perscription, and she responds with "I have no idea how to do that". I remind her it was done this way last time and she says she'll figure it out. I wait a day, no prescription was sent to Express Scripts so I call the office. They tell me they will check with Margaret and would make sure it gets put in that day. Well, a prescription was filled - a refill on Adderall. Not the new medication she prescribed. I then spent over an hour between Express Scripts and Contemporary Care trying to get the correct medication prescription filled. I finally get the medication and start taking it. In the meantime, I had some pretty stressful things going on which brought on the high anxiety. Since I had a follow-up, I thought I would bring that up. Once again, it was an appointment consisting of me talking to the back of Margaret's computer screen. I told her the new ADHD prescription didn't feel like it was for me. She suggested we give it a break but would prescribe me Xanax for the anxiety. Xanax worked great, but that was my last appointment at that office. I don't want someone that's going to stare at a screen the entire time, I want someone knowledgeable and actually interested in me. I didn't feel any of that with her. I know medications can consist of trial and error so I'm not basing my ratings on the various medication needs, but more of her approach to the situation. I also have to say that the reception/appointment team just seemed stressed and unorganized. Every time I was there, there were at least 2 receptionists working and both seemed frazzled, but Margaret's seemed especially frazzled. Overall, just not a great experience and don't recommend their office for anyone expecting a warm experience. read more

If I could give negative stars I would. I decided it was time to give therapy a chance. I went in vulnerable and ready to unload. Made an appointment at Contemporary Care at 84 hospital avenue. Told them I needed talk therapy when I made the appointment and was not interested in medication. I also wanted to see a female therapist. Just arrived for my appointment and when I got called in the woman told me she had a student with her and asked if it was ok. I reluctantly said yes. When I got in the office it was a male student. She asked me odd questions and sat behind her desk and typed away barely looking up. Then she had me fill out this survey about depression. I filled it out and then she said "so what are you looking for?" I looked at her dumbfounded like.. "uh i guess to talk and heal?!" She was like "well if you need talk therapist we should get you an appointment with someone cause im a PA and manage medication." So then the office manager comes in and asks me "what do you want to discuss? Divorce, parenting, anxiety or depression?" I again looked at her dumbfounded and said "i didn't realize i had to pick one topic and group all my issues into it." She said "let me go see if anyone is free?" Then she walked away. Couple minutes go by and the pa brought another patient into the room and then was like "oh sorry, didnt realize you were still here." Finally I decided.. this doesnt feel good. I dont feel emotionally safe and I walked back to the lobby and told the manager im done and I want my money back. She replied, "you're already here why dont you just wait 5-10 minutes so I can ask one or the therapists it she has time to see you after shes done with her appointment." Yeah. No thanks. I dont know if anyone else has had good/bad experiences at this place but I will never to back there. Told her it was an awful experience. I left feeling uncomfortable and closed off. read more

The reception staff is incredibly rude and unprofessional. They have charged me multiple times for a "no show" when I have rescheduled my appointment. They also make it a habit of not sending out the links for your appointments so you end up missing your appointment. I cannot get over how rude the receptionist is. read more

For the past year I have seen Margaret Scalia ARPN to prescribe and manage my medications for depression, anxiety and PTSD. Her knowledge, attention to detail, compassion, and dedication is unmatched by others in her field. I could not be happier. I am under managed care by other doctors for chronic pain and Margaret has even caught issues that others have missed just by paying attention and listening. I was a patient of Dr. Fry for more than 20 years, but I had high hopes for Contemporary Care. My experiences with the Danbury Offices of Contemporary Care have not been positive. I was assigned to a PA without receiving any introduction or notification concerning the person that I would be seeing. I was billed over $300 for a 15 minute visit when all that I needed was new scripts for medication. In my most recent virtual visit I was assigned a new person. Again just for new scripts. The person that saw me told me that I needed an appointment in two months. I asked, Why?" The response, "So I get to know you." This was from a person who failed to make virtual eye contact with me during the course of the visit. My comment, "I see no reason for another appointment in 60 days. Well, guess what? I use a mail order pharmacy for my meds on an auto refill plan. I found out that my pharmacy had contacted Contemporary Care several times and received no response. This was not the first time. I called Contemporary care and requested refills. I was told that I had to have an appointment scheduled in order to have a script sent to my pharmacy. After some conversation, I was told that refills would be sent to my pharmacy. That was two weeks ago. No refills yet. I wonder if the people at Contemporary Care know that running out of meds for people who depend on their meds is unsafe. Especially true for Psychiatric patients. I am lucky enough to have other providers upon whom I can depend. Makes me wonder that other patients may be suffering from poor care. Sorry Contemporary Care. You should be ashamed. read more

Dr. Anton Fry would be so disappointed with what is now taking place at Contemporary Care (formerly CPC Associates). Not only have the negotiated insurance costs doubled, but the service quality is poor and the lack of care and genuine interest in patients is sadly gone. I will be searching for a new provider who truly cares for the well being of their patients. I have been a patient at CPC Associates for over ten years, and I have been extremely impressed with the entire organization, including the clerical and administrative staff, the psychiatric medical care, and the psychotherapy. For the first several years, I was cared for by Dr. Anton Fry, who founded the organization and enjoys an excellent and well-deserved reputation with many physicians and health care professionals in the Danbury area. My father and grandfather were both physicians, and I see in Dr. Fry an old-school commitment to professional excellence and a strong ethical sense of what a physician should be. He feels a strong sense of personal responsibility to see that his patients receive the best possible care from him and from others in the organization. I remember one occasion when I described to him some difficulty I was having with a non-psychiatric medical problem. When I finished, I was surprised at his reaction. He was angry, offended by what he perceived as the poor quality of medical care I was receiving. I was reminded of my father and grandfather, and I knew his reaction was grounded in his deeply held beliefs about his profession, and the responsibilities it entails. At one time, those beliefs and values were instilled in students attending medical and nursing schools, but they have grown increasingly rare in modern medicine, much to the detriment of both providers and patients. Since I first went there, CPC Associates has grown steadily, and opened another location at 57 North Street. A few years ago, Dr. Fry told me that he needed to reduce his clinical workload so he could focus more on the business of running a larger organization. He asked if I would be willing to switch from seeing him to another psychiatrist, Dr. Ammerman. I had seen Dr. Ammerman a couple times before when Dr. Fry was not available, and so I agreed to the change. Dr. Ammerman is a younger man than Dr. Fry, and was with the practice when I first began there. He shares my appreciation of Dr. Fry, and has absorbed all the principles described above that I admire in both men. That is not to say that their clinical approaches are the same; in fact, they are quite different. But I have had an equally excellent experience with Dr. Ammerman, and he has helped me through some very difficult times. He truly cares in a personal way about his patients, and has gone out of his way to see that I have always received the best possible care. I had a psychiatric crisis three years ago, and was hospitalized for a few months. Throughout that time, he stayed in close contact with the psychiatrists at the hospital, and helped to create and implement a support plan for my release. He recommended a specific therapist in the practice, Abbe Ravens, who has been perfect for me. I've had psychiatric therapy before, and haven't really benefitted much from it. That's been very different with Abbe. I've continued to see Abbe once a week, and the therapy I've received from her and Dr. Ammerman has helped me to think about things in a much better way, and my life is much better for it. Dr. Fry has met with me few times as well, to be sure I was OK and making progress. I've come to know many if not most of the clerical and administrative staff, and they've always been extremely competent, helpful and supportive. Altogether, the treatment I've received from this practice has been very effective, and I feel a great sense of good will and caring from the people there. They have been there for me when I really needed it, and I know they are there for me today. I couldn't really ask for more. read more

I am a patient of Margaret Scalia, APRN. I am in my early 70's and have had a life time of ADHD, anxiety and depression. I have always had a very good experience with Margaret and I am very grateful that I am in her practice. She listens to me and asks me questions and advises me about my medications. When to use them or not explaining that there can be a down side to their use if not used exactly as they are meant to be taken. Overall she teaches me how to use them properly and carefully. I just think that she is amazing and hope to never have to change. She is also uplifting and positive towards me. I detect that she has an all around happy home and has lived through challenges that along with her education has made her a very good therapist and compassionate towards all people. Yes, I would certainly recommend this professional lady to anyone. In my experience, she is the best!! read more

This 'Care' Center needs revisions to its Administrative Department. I could not leave a message ANYWHERE today even though the automated message left instructions regarding how to reach the operator. The instructions did not work; the automated message simply kept playing over and over again. In addition, I don't think a 45 minute therapy session should be billed at $200! I could, and hopefully will find an independent psychologist who will provide better help for me. (I've been going to this place for over 2 years .... I'm not feeling much better) I wish Dr. Anton Fry had not retired. read more

Several appointments were missed by the doctor without the courtesy of a call or an apology. If I missed the appointment they would have billed me. They should compensate me for my time. A number of calls had to be made to get the prescription for my anxiety medication renewed, causing additional anxiety. read more

I am applauded with the unprofessional-ism of this practice. They didn't give me any indication as to scheduling my next appointment. I called, and they automatically scheduled an appointment without telling me. When I needed to change the appointment the only date they could give me was weeks away, and they were very rude about it. There was an issue and the doctor wasn't willing to call back. This is really an AWFUL place. I'm now stuck with them until I can find another place unfortunately. Don't get into the same horrible situation I got into. read more

Good psychiatrists/therapists, horrible administration I have never dealt with such a difficult administration and have been going to therapy for 11 years. Their cancellation fees are ridiculous and as a person who lives paycheck to paycheck, I couldn't pay them right away. After a while, they refused to see me, which I somewhat understood because it's policy. Eventually, I saved up the money I owed, only to find out that my fees had somehow doubled, despite not being seen for months. Billing does not answer the phone or call me back. Their Danbury office played phone tag with me for weeks. The receptionists are also very rude. You would think they would be a bit kinder and more understanding to people who deal with mental illness and trauma. When I couldn't pay them hundreds of dollars up front, one of them looked at me like I had two heads. Sorry, some people struggle financially. I have been happy with the therapists and psychiatrists I have seen, but will not be returning due to the ridiculous level of unprofessionalism from the administrative staff. read more

Stay away from this scam. Many people complaint about high bills and fishy charges. I have experienced this on my own. They will charge you $450 for a psychiatric evaluation which consisted of absolutely nothing with a therapist named Wendy, not even the doctor. These people charge more than oncologist, neurosurgeons and orthopedist, it's ridiculous. They will tell you they take your insurance but not all providers are affiliated and they will surprise you with a huge bill. When I found out about these extra charges I went into the office to complaint. Jennifer Young PA theathen me and my husband to call 911 and refused to see me or return my calls because they wanted my bill paid in full, I explained to them that I was out of work for 5 weeks ( per Jennifer Young orders because I refused to take more medication that was making me terribly sick)and unable to make payment in full at that exact moment , they refused to help me with payment arrangements. I needed a form filled out for my work,eventhough she said that if any forms needed to be filled out she will do them. Lier and thief!. If you need any forms filled out for school or work they will force you to make an appt and pay hundreds of dollars so they can fill forms at visit.After making my payment in full she only wrote a note on a script pad and refuse to fill out the rest of paperwork. They will not care about you as a patient, they only care to make money. They will use you as Guinea pig and give you the drugs they get for pharmaceutical representatives so they make money off of it. I also went to see Wendy, the therapist and I arrived 10 min early to my appt, receptionist forgot to check me in until 25 min past my appt. Wendy only saw me for 15 min and still charged my insurance for a 45 min appt. They are dishonest and they are not looking to help patients in any way. This a a huge scam. Stay away from this place and find the right providers that will care for you. read more

Not run well administratively. They do not process claims properly. There is a lot of turnover in their accounts payable department. This organization puts its front desk desk people in a position of demanding payment up front - sometimes in a very confrontational way, even if you have an insurance plan that pays for deductible payments - they act like you must be lying. Always bring paperwork besides your insurance card because they won't believe you. My privacy has been violated because I had to get the HR department at work involved. I got some very helpful counseling there from one of the clinicians and the location is convenient for me, but had I known what a disaster the place is administratively I would have stayed away. They need to fix their accounts payable and reception. One time I showed up for my appointment and it was cancelled by the office - not the clinician - with no notice given to me. They were holding a staff meeting or something. Careless way to do business. read more
