I've been coming here for years for pastries especially around holiday time! Continental is famous as the™ kosher bakery in the Valley and for good reason! There will definitely be a huge line (out the door and potentially down the block) around holidays (most recently Hanukkah) but I recommend coming early in the morning for the quickest in/out shopping experience. Parking is limited to the Cambridge Farms plaza which can definitely get full. Continental is parve (no dairy / meat) so it's the perfect treat for anyone who keeps Kosher or is vegan! read more

To start off the challah is displayed out in the open? Not bagged or even covered! How many flies come in through the day as people enter and exit the premises! That should not be permitted by the health department. 2nd of all you they sale you the challah that are "fresh" but they give you hard bread! We eat them and buy them all the time at our nearby Kosher stores in Orange County. I was like a kid in a candy store when I stopped by here. Owners and employees are friendly here. If you ever require a lesson in terrible customer service, this is the place to go. I'll get to their outrageous prices later, but for now, understand that of the four customers in line while I was there, three were already angry with how they were treated by the staff. Allow me to explain my own horror story: One day around noon, I go in to ask for a pie, because my kid insists on a kosher pie. The guy behind the counter says, "Sorry, we're way behind. Come back tomorrow morning around 9 AM and we'll have a pie for you." So I came back the next day around 9 AM and I'm told, "Sorry, we're way behind. You'll have to come back around 12 PM." Thinking they're off their game, I ask, "Can I pay for one now so that you'll hold one for me?" "No, he says, we don't do that. We have a large order of pies, and they'll be ready after 12." To which I reply, "Well, can you add one more pie to those and let me pay for it now so that you don't run out like you did yesterday?" No, he says, they don't do that. Fine. I try to play along with these wizards. I return at 12 PM to pick up a pie, where another genius behind the counter tells me "We don't have any of those pies." "Wait a minute," I said, "you said that you had large orders of pies. You telling me there are no extras of overs?" "Nope," he insists, after which I catch the eye of a senior dope and ask her, "Would you mind going back there and just checking please?" She does, and lo and behold, emerges with the exact pie I ordered. The other guy disappears , but returns to ring up the sale. At this point, I notice it's a cashless shop, which I go out of my way to avoid. But I'm stuck with this, and the dope rings it up. Bear in mind this is a little 10 inch diameter pie. You can get them anywhere else for $10, maybe $12. Not here. This pleasure cruise charges $28 for a little 10" pie. And to top it off, when they charge it, up pops a screen asking how much of a tip I'd like to leave. I decided to leave this review instead. They say that in a few million years, the sun will become a nova, expanding to the point where the Earth will resemble a crispy nugget. They day after that is when I plan to return to this place -- if ever. read more

I saw messages from other reviewers that the staff wasn't very pleasant but I've never had that experience. Even at their busiest they were still nice to me both in person and on the phone. very anti-american attitude from employees. they do "not" accept good ole american cash. credit only so they can sell your info and track you, that's cash for them. when questioned why no cash i was laughed at and ridiculed by the counter staff. clearly they may not trust their employees to handle cash or they all have an inability to count. they have small counter space and very little to fill them. that said, stay away from this un-american business and their nasty attitudes!! First and last night at this bakery. These are usually on TooGoodToGo so I figured I would try them by buying a surprise bag for $6 where you are supposed to get $18 worth of food. What I received did meet the value although you don't really get much. Received a bear claw, a chocolate chip croissant, a cherry danish, and a plain croissant from what I can remember. It was only 4 or 5 pastries. I received a value of $17.50-$21.50 so it met the value but it just wasn't a lot.... Went on a Friday so thought they would be generous since they are closed on Saturdays (and no one else bought a bag as they had 4 left when I purchased a bag shortly before they closed so they could have been a bit more generous...). Had a bit out of everything. Everything was good but not any better than any other item from other bakeries. Parking lot is Hell. I should have parked on the street but I didn't realize there was parking on the street until I left. The people also need to get a ticket system in place as there's a lot of angry customers pushing and cutting each other to go next. read more

If I could I'd give it a zero! Ordered sprinkle cookies (my kids favorite for years) they tasted as if they'd been left in a room that was recently painted. When I called , the man I spoke to on the phone told me they tasted fine to him and he doesn't know what I did to them on the way home. My question is.. what did you do with them in the bakery?? So he said there's nothing he can do!!! So now I'm throwing $17.50 worth of cookies in the garbage. Which is a lot of money for a pound of cookies. This review is for shady service/business practice, not food. Called the store to make sure they had the Rye bread I wanted, The woman said yes, they had some baked that morning. So...I drove 10 miles the the bakery (I'm a disabled senior and never drive that far for a loaf of bread, but reading the reviews, I made an exception). When I arrive, I see a NO CASH sign at the register! WHAT!? I couldn't believe that the clerk had not mentioned anything about this on the phone before I drove over. When I mentioned this to her, she had no answer and ignored the question There were two women customers who had just completed a purchase, and seeing that I was visibly upset about the issue, kindly offered to buy the bread for me (bless you, ladies!). I thanked them but refused, telling them that I will not patronize a business that cares so little about it's business practices. Oh my God. I love this place. The inside is attractive and clean and the displays are always stocked. The staff is nice. Heads up: they do not accept cash. Their black and whites are out of this world. I am originally from Long Island and grew up eating fresh black-and-whites from Jewish and Italian bakeries but since moving to Southern California I have not found many places that sell black-and-white cookies, let alone good ones. But Continental Kosher Bakery has changed that and I am so grateful for it. I am reminded of home when I eat their black-and-whites. They are small but the white icing is thick and sweet, and the chocolate side is bright and milky. The cake is soft and flavorful. I never thought that I would find a good Jewish place again but finally, after 15 years of hoping and searching, I've found it. I am delighted every time I am in the neighborhood and able to visit. Hello !! Just wanted to say this place was a surprising AND exciting find for myself. Im allergic to dairy and my boyfriend lives for these kinda of pastries so it's a win-win. I was looking for a place that sells bohemian kolaches, as theyre his absolute fav, and couldnt find anything in the valley. I happened across this bakery and called in and a wonderful gentleman talked me through all their options and helped me find basically the closest possible alternative to a kolache- their rugalach. I ended up coming in yesterday and ordering about a pound of these bad boys, which were very well priced mind you. 12$ a pound and you have about 12-16 little desserts (i was told the fruit fillings are lighter than the chocolate and apple nut flavors). I also ordered a churro which was amazing. They were all so nice and helpful and I'm thankful to know this place is so close by! Surprisingly really good bagels despite the higher price compared to Noah's and Einsteins. I think the price is also because of the bakery being kosher. I grabbed a bag of poppy bagels eight for $8 so a dollar each from their South Pasadena Farmers Market booth. It was a little tough but otherwise overall good flavor and looks.
