Locker rooms are a bit cramped but have private showers and everything you need. They schedule plenty of time to enjoy the baths before and after your massage. Massage was exceptional, my therapist knew all the right spots. Between the detoxifying effects of the water and the massage I was feeling incredibly tranquil and relaxed. Don't miss this spa. Definitly do the cold bath, just go for it! Also make a late appointment. The spa stays open until 10pm and it's the perfect ending to the day.

It seems that the buses cannot park right by the hotel. If you wanted to walk into town, you had to go back out and walk another 10 minutes, and it was a bit confusing as to which way was town center. We gave up after going into several streets and decided it wasn't worth it at that hour. We had a buffet dinner tonight at the hotel and the food was decent. Hotel had popcorn near Reception area. No water heater for coffee/tea, no body lotion, I'm almost 6' tall and had to stretch to reach the hangers in the hallway closet! Room was spacious. Room echos a lot so can hear next room or people in the hallway outside. Tile floor with no carpeting which is good and just enough space to do yoga or stretches. Plenty of outlets, wifi adequate. There is a coffee machine but no tea or kettle, one bottle of drinking water. High ceilings so at least the room didn't feel as oppressive as it's dark with not much lighting. Location is good, walkable to center. Breakfast adequate with standard continental.

Void of any Portuguese personality including decor (tiles, what's that?), it is basic and functional depending on your wants and needs. Located just outside of old town (within walking distance), the location and room layout worked for us. However, if you are sharing a room with a friend, know that the bathroom layout is different. Namely, there is no bathroom. There is a separate sink, a stall for the toilet, and a stall for the shower. Coming out of the shower can be awkward. (Fellow tour mates complained about this.) Unlike the three previous Portuguese brand hotels where we stayed, this is the first hotel without robes and slippers for guests; the robes could have lessened the awkwardness. The room size is comfortable with enough space to spread out our luggages and bags. The overall rating would have been 3.5 stars. But I rounded up to 4 stars after visiting their 4th floor diner, pool area. The diner offered both Portuguese dishes (try the pork sandwich) and American dishes. We ordered the Club Sandwich; it must be Portuguese style cuz it's a grill cheese looking sandwich (not recommend). Prices were reasonable for hotel food. The pool is a modest infinity pool, not bad for a 'Garden Inn' level pool.

So, first a little history. The convent was built in 1182. The walls of the Convento de São Paulo are made up by 54 thousand tiles, and is the largest private collection in the country. I later found out that our room is not in the main building but in an annex about 500m away. It was spacious, with a living room, a bedroom and an equally spacious bathroom that is all lined with marble (marble being quarried locally). Outside the room are orange trees, and looking down we can see sheep grazing on the land. The wifi is good throughout the property. Breakfast is included and quite a nice spread. Definitely take time to tour the historic part of the building, to see the old chapel and the fountain. There's also a walking trail around the property. The hotel is truly in the middle of nowhere. They have a restaurant onsite, but you need to let them know ahead of time if you plan to eat there. There's two restaurants about 2km away in a tiny village, and beyond that, you will need to visit either Redondo (10km) or Estremoz (17km) away. We usually do an early dinner and shop for whatever we need before head back to the hotel. We did enjoy our stay, but just want to set up the expectation that you won't be living in a city or near the many conveniences you expect from a city.
