The last 2 I previously bought in different orders were chocolate brown and so overcooked that the pastry was unwrapping. Both times resulted in a wing 20-30 mm wide of what resembled dark brown asbestos. Hoping for better results the third I time tried my (bad) luck I actually asked if they could not overcook the spring roll this time please. Well that certainly worked. The spring roll was SLIGHTLY less overcooked (about 1 shade of chocolate brown lighter) and the brown asbestos wing was unrolled only about 10-15mm. If that is their improvement rate I dont think I could live long enough for them to learn that a well cooked spring roll is not supposed to be a substitute for a short crowbar. As far as false advertising goes the spring rolls they actually dish up are totally dis-similar to the image of a plate of spring rolls on their web-site.

The best thing about the chicken is the fact it is free range lillydale. Not only is it not deep fried but it is roasted and combined with some mighty tasty stuffing. Chickens taste amazing and are worth the long wait when the shop is busy. Pricing is very decent and the takeaway is rather nice. Ialso would recommend that you try a few of the different salads, as I have had a few and haven't come across a bad one yet. Oh and last but not least, the large chips are actually large unlike some other fish and chips or chicken and chips takeaway stores. Expect a 15-20 minute wait when the shop is busy.

It isn't fried in anything weird, no 'special spices', just yum BBQ chicken. Fat Chicken does well in that respect - it just does the basics. As well as chicken, they have burgers, yiros and seafood - they're sort of a superstore for cornerstore takeaway snacks. They've got a whole bunch of stores - being an SA chain - but I've only been to this one in Torrensville. The service is quick, and if all you really want is chicken and chips for dinner, you've struck gold. Reasonable prices, too. My only gripe is their salads can be a little on the pathetic side at times - a bit wilted or lacking in the main ingredients (for example tabouli with not enough tomato and cucumber). This business is under new management and they have made the shop look prettier and juggled the menu a little. I nearly always order '1/4 Chicken 2 salads.' Firstly, I'm glad that the price hasn't changed from $10. BUT I have noticed there is now no 'Chicken Caesar' salad, it's just Caesar, and that there is also no 'Asian Chicken' salad. I assume removing the chicken is a cost cutting measure. Furthermore, I'd love to see some more olives and feta in the Greek salad, sometimes there isn't much mixed in there. The staff are friendly and on for a laugh, and if you order a box of the Yiros combo for $15 you have an insane amount of food on your hands! It's actually really impressive....what's not impressive (well, kinda still is really) is the gas it gives me almost immediately, and then lasting for about 2 days. Seriously, it gives me headaches. Funky chicken serves up good birds but our 7:30pm visit here meant we caught one that was a bit dry. The chips are heavenly golden and big cut, as was previously mentioned. The salads are the winner here with beetroot and fetta, pumpkin and spinach, tabouli, greek and plenty more to choose from - again though get in early to get the pick of the crop and not left overs. Service was super quick and friendly and the price was good for a chicken shop. Overall, not the holy grail but definitely a contender should some of my other regulars be out on one of my fat wreck Friday type days.

One that I have already reviewed is the best, being Chicken Chef on Main North Road, however Funky Chicken on Duth Street isn't too far behind. The chicken is fine and all, it defeinately passes the 'skin' test.....but the one thing that sets the big boys apart from the pretenders is the chippies. Elissa and Penny are right on the money, Funky Chicken has some mental chips! That is all you need to know, get on em!
