I love Cookout. They have some of the best burgers and milkshakes around. And don't forget the cheese fries and onion rings! When I go there I pretty much always get a tray and I am always satisfied. They're prices are reasonable as well. That's such a good quality because other fast food restaurants are expensive for no reason. This particular cookout had very good service. Oh my. I went to school at NC State and my roomie suggested this place since I was new to Southern food for the most part. This became my post workout meal place, went here after swimming at the gym all the time. Loved getting the chicken strips with honey mustard sauce, fries, and hush puppies. Solid Cook Out location. Great milkshakes, so many options, and tons of great, greasy, perfect at 2am food. The employees at this location are a hit or miss. Well, obviously I've had a complete change of heart regarding Cookout. Decided to give it another try, they got it right and it was delicious, which led to more visits and more deliciousness. The burgers really do taste like you cooked them on a grill in your back yard, and the fries are always hot and fresh, and they don't give you a little wimpy half-filled bag of them either. I've also given the shakes another try, and I like those as well. For the price, it simply can't be beat. I think the thing I appreciate most about this place, though, is the staff. Cook-Out restaurants are all over NC...but they are NOT like this particular one. I have eaten from 4 different Cook-Out restaurants and they are sub-par compared to the one on Western. I think it's because this one is by NCSU and they definitely know how to feed the broke college kid right! The people are friendly, fast, and even when you're drunk off your ass--they understand! Either because I ordered the wrong items off the tray/combo menu or I am just spoiled by California, I did not enjoy my meal as much as those who reviewed cook out. I got the chicken BBQ sandwich. The meat was not dried but it lacked flavor. I wouldn't know it's a BBQ sandwich if I hadn't order it myself. The sides (corn dog and hush puppies) were pretty solid but nothing spectacular. Good fries but they broke a cardinal rule of burger joints--the cheese on my burger was completely unmelted. A recently unwrapped slice of plasticky american cheese certainly benefits from a little melty action.
