We love Cook Out! When traveling south through the Carolinas on I95 we always get a quick meal here. It's drive through only but it's the only fast food place that has good that actually tastes good. It really does taste like an old fashion backyard cookout. Burgers and chicken sandwiches are great. Portions are not huge but they're fairly priced. Lots of variety to choose from. read more

Great value! I like to get the tray with a burger "cookout style" which is with chili and coleslaw slaw, two chicken wraps and a banana + peanut butter milkshake. I'm very happy after all that and only spent $8. It is my go to on road trips in VA and NC. read more

WOW! This was amazing. We got the trays, and we couldn't believe how much food it was. Because the price was so low, we thought everything would be really small. But the portions were great. The beef doesn't taste anything like a fast food burger's beef tastes. The chicken wrap was our favorite thing, but everything we ordered was great. Also, I can't stress how good the prices are. I stopped at McDonald's and saw this place next door and had to try it out given the name. I wasn't overly impressed with the burger, fries, or strawberry shake. They handed it to me in a styrofoam box which was a little strange but ok. I expected the burger to be filled with smokey, grilled flavor but it was just a flavorless burger...not bad but not what I expected. The fries were hot and fresh, but nothing to brag about. The strawberry shake had real strawberries but tasted overly sweet as if maybe too much sweetener was added. Definitely a great place for fast food that tastes homemade . Whether you are local or passing by on 95, its a great place to stop to pick up a quick bite. The fries are crisp The service is fast The shakes OUT OF THIS WORLD! The hamburgers are freshly made, no fillers (we always get the regular all the way). 1 burger and fries is enough for both of us (yes they are that big). Fast food BBQ? Fast food is never good and BBQ is never fast, yet this place is surprisingly good! Apparently this is a chain of restaurants in North Carolina. The location I visited had 2 drive thru lanes on either side of the building and no seating available at all (inside or out). I had the pork BBQ sandwich with hush puppies, fries, and cole slaw. The lunch alone was $3.99 plus the drink. Ridiculously cheap, but the BBQ was ridiculously good. In the genre of fast food, I can definitely recommend this place. I even like the creaminess of the hush puppies. Also I didn't realize at the time of my order, but they offer more than 40 different flavors of milkshakes. We were driving from Virginia to Florida when hunger set in. We exited 95 with the intention of grabbing some BK. Cook Out was right across the street. So I yelped it right from the BK parking lot. The reviews were 50/50, but we decided to give it a shot. Try something new. My husband and I both ordered a meal with a milkshake each. The meal comes with TWO sides. We liked that everything came packaged in boxes. The burgers were actually pretty good and better than what we would have had at BK. The milkshakes were pretty large & delicious. We had an Oreo & a Strawberry Cheesecake. YUM! We enjoyed all our food. PLUS, our total came out to just under $13! For the amount of food including milkshakes, it was a bargain! We have paid the same at McD's for one meal with a soda and an extra sandwich! The girl at the window was friendly and our order was correct. The drive thru line moved quickly too. What a pleasant change from the usual road trip fast food! We were looking for a change from the norm, and Ralph's was closed. Fortunately, Cook Out was open and more than willing to sell us food. The prices can't be beat, and I was full but not uncomfortable after my grilled chicken sandwich, fries and coke. My brother had a hot dog covered in slaw, which he ate in under a minute with no complaints. The bf had a chicken tender club sandwich, which was also apparently awesome. It was good, not great,but good. They just have a drive -thru & a walk up window. No indoor or outdoor seating, which is very strange and not very welcoming. It was a beautiful summer day. I walked over from the hotel I was staying at & had plans to sit there & eat after I got my food, but no where to sit!!! So I walked back to hotel with my order & ate my food sitting on my hotel bed. My sister raved about the place more than once, so I decide to give it a try. No charcoal taste to me. I ordered a double chocolate shake it was a black & white shake very mild taste of chocolate. I normally never write poor reviews. Worst cookout experience I have ever had. Order was missing multiple items. Fries and burgers were completely soggy... I'm talking absolutely disgusting. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to try any of the burgers or BBQ, but the others that were with me did enjoy the cajun chicken burger, BBQ plate, and a char grilled hot dog. They mentioned everything tasted good and definitely hit the spot. As for me, I had the hush puppies which were dense, bland, and boring.. I definitely expected it to be better than what it was. Since it was next to McDonald's, we were able to park, use the facilities, and go across to the walk up window. The service was good and the food was hot. The food is boxed and easy for car eating. Nice change of pace not having to hit a national chain on our drive from FL back to MD. Milkshakes were nice and thick. Cheddar style burger was good--had more bacon than burger (that's not a complaint!). BBQ was okay--I think I would have preferred it without the slaw on top. It masked the flavor of the meat. Exceptional southern cooking right off 95 that i wish we had up north. the food has many different themes to choose from and also offers exotic shakes. there is no parking and is strictly a drive thru. At the same time there is one window that you can order from. the window gets crowed but the food is quick! read more
