If you're looking for a fun eating experience with friends you have to reserve a spot with Cooking @ Millie's. We had an amazing time. Classes sell out fast so you MUST make reservations and be prepared it's gonna be booked out months away. I'm ts well worth the wait! We chose the Cooking with Rum by Chef Andrew. The menus are published on their website along with the recipes. Our menu that night was Shrimp and pineapple wrapped in Bacon, entree was Jerk Chicken with rice and dessert was Hummingbird Cake. Chef Andrew is an excellent instructor and his assistants have everything down to a science. You'll be surprised how organized and fluid everything goes. It's truly amazing. This is a hands-on experience which makes it even more exciting. The experience is top notch. I highly recommend. The location is easy to get to. There is street parking if you can find it; but, there's also $5 public parking right across the street which is nice. They have everything you need right there including lockers for your stuff. COUPLE NOTES.... If you get cold like I do.......BRiNG A JACKET!!!!! My hands were turning white I was so cold. We visited here for a fun cooking class and were seated at a cooking station near the front of the venue. Our chef was Chef Chris Stoddard and he was fun, engaging, and informative. We chose a class that has been quite popular and had to make a reservation several months in advance, and it was so worth it! We chose a class featuring Maryland crab cakes with a remoulade sauce, as well as steak, Mac n cheese, chocolate cake with raspberries, as well as a bottle of red wine. Happy event with about 10 cooking stations with 2 patrons at each, as well as Chef and several support assistants. We spent 2 to 3 hours here cooking, drinking, eating, and interacting and had a blast. Plan to repeat either the same class (because it was that good!) or maybe try a different class -- or maybe even do both! read more

We had a group of 32 from our church that do a dinner out each month. To change it up a little, we did dinner at Millie's. Everyone loved it. The staff are super supportive and kind. Love love love Cooking at Millie's! I've been here several times for three different classes: macarons, cheese making, and a couple's date night. Each one was so much fun, so useful, and so so tasty. They are located in downtown Louisville. There are a bunch of cooking stations set up facing the front chef station. The chef has several cameras on him/her so you get various angles as you're following along. each station is fully equipped with all the cooking tools and utensils you'll need for the class. My first class was a macaron baking class. My friend and I were very stressed throughout because we wanted them to be perfect, but it was worth it because our macarons came out great! The chef was very helpful coming around and troubleshooting for everyone. Same with my second class, the cheese making class. Is there anything better than cheese? We learned how to make ricotta and mozzarella, and we got to try little samples of cake and salad that we can make with these cheeses. The cheeses came out amazing and you could really taste the freshness difference. The most recent class I took was a date night class. We made a three course meal that turned out really good, and we're still using the recipes from the class. This was in July, still in the thick of COVID-19. Cooking at Millie's took very diligent precautions. They take your temperature coming in, they are more strict with hand washing, and they have distancing and mask guidelines. Everyone in the class was compliant throughout, and we felt very safe. This is a really fun way to spend an evening, and I've always come out with a full belly and having learned something new. What an absolutely amazing and fun thing to do here in town. We had a blast, and the food turned out perfect. We started off by prepping the dessert because it takes the longest to make/bake. We made a chocolate brownie in an individual souffle cup. Threw it in the oven and forgot about it for a while. Appetizer was wagyu pigs in a blanket with Bleu cheese. Outstanding. Never would have thought to add the Bleu cheese. That's a lifehack. Dinner was a filet. We learned how to sear the steak and keep the smoke down while evenly cooking the steak (add butter and throw it in the oven). We also made a mushroom sauce to top the steak (reduced heavy cream). Then the dessert was ready to go. We zested an orange, added the juice from the orange and some powdered sugar. Poured this on top of the brownie and we had ourselves a fire dessert. The price is a little bit over $100, but if you book early you get 10% off. Which we did. I think this is an incredibly good value. You learn a lot, you have fun cooking, and you eat the good food you make. And it comes with a bottle of win. Come on! Awesome deal. read more

What a fun experience!! I kept coming across the website and was interested in taking a class. The macaron class sells out quickly so you kind of have to keep an eye out for it. I roped a coworker into going with me and we had such a good time. The class was a little over 2 hours. We learned how to make the tops and bottoms as well as a chocolate ganache or a lemon curd (we learned the ganache). The ingredients were pre-measured and all the supplies were lined up at our stations. When all was said and done, we both took home over a dozen macarons. There was also some airbrushing you could do for decoration. The instructors were nice and kept the class moving while also not leaving anyone behind. The only disappointing thing was the ganache all got put into a fridge to cook and when it was put into piping bags - you weren't guaranteed to have the ganache you made. Overall, this was a fun class and I've already scooped out other classes I would do in the future. read more

My experience at Millie's was all the fun of cooking a meal with a friend without the hassle of prep or clean-up. I consider myself to be adept in the kitchen but I had never made any of the three courses on the menu that night (crab cakes, chicken piccata, and tiramisu) so it was easy to turn on my 'learning mode' (The bottle of wine didn't hurt). The dinner is led by a seasoned chef with a full kitchen and viewing monitor up front so everyone can easily follow along. Each course came with fully prepped and portioned ingredients so guests can skip the tedious prep work and just enjoy creating. You work in pairs with a mini-stovetop and all the kitchen supplies you need. Staff came around to give us tips as we progressed (don't flip the chicken early!), and then we were able to eat what we created. I should note we also had ample, easy, and free-after-6 parking downtown. We had an amazing night and I highly recommend this experience to anyone who would like to grab a buddy, date, or group and have a good time learning something new. read more

Millie (real name Natalie)and her staff make the evening so much fun- making sure wine glasses are full, offering cooking tips, making sure we aren't ruining the food, generally being really awesome hosts. This experience was a birthday gift and I purposely selected a menu that featured items I either didn't know how to cook (chocolate soufflé) or didn't cook well (steak) so that I could learn AND eat delicious food. There are consistently different menus and guest chefs so there's sure to be something to fit your palate. And they make it so easy that you can do it even if you're a hot mess in the kitchen. We traveled all the way from Indianapolis for this experience. I wanted to celebrate a friends birthday in a special way and this was perfect. We started promptly, every station was nice and clean. Directions were clear and there are tv monitors to show the chefs table. We prepared a three course meal. The wine selection was great and is complimentary with your ticket. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS! So you sign up online with a chef, dish or date of your choosing and get to cook a meal. The chef for the night teaches you how to cook each dish. The one I went to was with Zach from the Olé group. We got to make Gambas al Ajilo, Empanadas, and Torrejas. It was super easy to make each dish and they all tasted delicious, you also get a bottle of wine to share between two people. I'm not a fan of shrimp so my friend ate most of them but I got to learn how to cook shrimp. The empanadas were amazing and I also learned you could make them with any fillings. The torrejas was also very easy, it's similar to french toast but with a curve ball. Two bites and I was in a food coma. Zach was also a very good chef with answering questions, showing us how to cook, and checking in with everyone in the class. This is a great option for a girls night, date night, or even just learning experience with a friend. It's worth going multiple times and I plan to do go to more! read more

This is a really fun and unique experience! I would definitely recommend it for a date night or a girls night with a small group of friends. I went with my roommate and we had the best time! When we went the chef from Ward 426 was giving a class on making potato goat cheese royals, beef tenderloins with sage beurre blanc and a French apple cake! Everything was run exceptionally well and efficient. I like that all of the ingredients we needed were premeasured and in small ramekins so we did not have to waste time doing that. The chef and the woman who owns Millie's were so helpful and were always available to ask questions or repeat a step. They also tell you how to change or add things to the dishes to make it different if you are going to try it again at home. The food was delicious and you will want to eat it as soon as it's ready. I liked that after we made the appetizers we ate it while waiting for some of the other food to cook. I was shocked by how much food we made; I was so full I could barely finish my dessert, but I managed to find room. You will not leave hungry! Definitely come early to get checked in and acquainted with your station but also to pick out your bottle of wine! They have the standard choices of white, red, and rose. Cooking at Millie's is hands down the best cooking class in Louisville KY. (And trust me because I've been to them all!) Their biggest competition is probably Cooking at the Cottage, but let me tell you all the ways Cooking at Millie's is better: 1) you get an entire bottle of wine at Millie's, 2) You get to use an actual oven and stove and do the cooking completely on your own, 3) You get your own large cooking station instead of being squeezed together, 4) Natalie and Alison are tons of fun, and 5) it's the same price! We were really looking forward to the macaron class, our first at Mille's. Our first introduction began with the class starting 15 minutes late waiting for 4 people that never showed. The instruction did not make good use of the mirrors, the cameras didn't have enough zoom to allow viewing from the back of the class. The instruction was quick to show and then we were to repeat it, we had some assistance as needed. While we were mixing the bowls and pans were being cleaned up immediately sometimes with them waiting over our shoulder to pick it up. We felt so rushed. For all the positives I have heard about Cooking at Millies, we were not impressed and have no desire to return. read more

One of the events for my best friend's bachelorette weekend was Cooking @ Millie's. When I say a BALL was had lol a ball was had!!! The stuff was nice and funny. We paired up in groups of twos. First, we started off with wine. Next, we started off cooking our dessert. We made a chocolate bourbon pecan pie. All the ingredients were measured and set to the side for us. For the appetizer we made derby shrimp and grits with tasso gravy. I wasn't a fan of the shrimp and grits. We made gravy from brewed coffee and I don't like coffee and I could taste it. Now I asked others in the group and they couldn't taste the coffee. I like how the staff walked around to make sure everyone was okay and making sure we were doing things right, since we were drinking wine getting tipsy. The main dish we made was creamy parmesan risotto with creamy garlic butter Tuscan salmon. The risotto was very good, and I learn some new tips about cooking salmon. The crazy part of cooking appetizer and main dish is that we only used salt and pepper for seasoning and the food still turned out good. The class was so fun I would recommend for anyone that has a group of people that want to try something different. read more

I was so excited to try Cooking @ Millie's but I was a bit disappointed. I bought tickets as a surprise for Daniel to cook dinner with the Chef from 610 Magnolia. (And- no- it wasn't Edward Lee) The menu looked great and fun to cook together. We arrived last minute as my fiance injured his knee and is on crutches. The kind staff tried to accommodate us by seating us in the back of the room where we could prop the crutches and have a little more space. We appreciated that. However, sitting in the very back made it quite challenging to see or hear anything the chefs were instructing us to do. I felt constantly behind and rushed. At least we had a nice bottle of wine to ease the pain. Our first "prep" was actually the dessert because it takes a long time to cook in the oven. That part was fairly easy. Next, we were making the appetizer- scallops- which I was the most excited about as its one of my favorite foods. We only got 2 small scallop each. I was hoping for a little more. The technique we used to pan sear the scallops was different from what I normally do. Generally- i get the pan with a touch of olive oil really hot - then turn it down just slightly and sear the scallops for about 2 minutes on each side. With this- we got the pan nice and hot with no oil- then turned the temp down to low - added oil and then the scallops cooked for several minutes before turning. They were rubbery. Maybe we missed something. Next was the entree which was lamb chops. We were going to have cauliflower puree but apparently we did not have the equipment needed to do that so we just chopped and oven roasted some cauliflower. I felt like the lamb needed something else. It just didn't mesh that well. So- I just drank more wine.:) The dessert was by far the best part of the meal even though the chefs told us the incorrect way to make the caramel sauce. It never really thickened up- but that is okay because the dessert was good without it. Overall, I wouldn't pay $110 to do it again. I cook a lot at home and have decided that if I pay more than $100 for a meal- I want to relax and be served a nicely prepared dinner. I do really like the people who run Millie's though. My BFF and I recently took the macaron class taught at Millie's by the chef from Wiltshire Pantry. I'm kicking myself now that her name has slipped my mind because she was an excellent teacher and an excellent chef. If you have the opportunity to take this class I highly recommend it. The set up at Millie's is very nice and the owner was also so friendly and helpful. We both agreed that we would love to come back and take more classes. I'm actually a professional chef but I still felt like I learned some things and my bff likes to cook but is far from an expert and she found the class to be easy enough for her to follow. It was nice that even though our skill sets are very different we could both enjoy and learn in the same class. We went to date night at Cooking @ Millie's with Chef Nick and it was terrific! When we get a night out, we want it to be fun and entertaining and this was definitely both! When we walked in, Shelby told us we could choose our station. The room was partially full and we opted for the very back row. By the time class started, every station was full. The other couple at our station were really sweet and they had kids at home with a sitter too. We chatted with them a little, but we mostly just enjoyed time away from the baby and getting to be creative together. The room is so bright and open. I love the granite countertops and the nice gas grills. We found all the utensils we would need for prepping and cooking in the drawers at our station. Chef Nick was a great guide! His microphone was no working well at the beginning of the class, but the cameras and monitors at the front helped us follow along. It also helped that Shelby and Natalie (the owner) walked around and gave us some pointers. Speaking of Natalie, she was so engaged with each couple there. She brought out wine, answered questions, and had so much infectious energy! We both loved her. Our first task was to prep and bake dessert. It was an apple crisp and it was simple to make, but tasted so good! My hubs took the wheel on dessert, since I usually bake at home. He loved that he could do it and it was failproof! We followed that with really yummy crab cakes. When we signed up for this class we chose it specifically for the sea food menu, since it was a Friday during Lent. There was so much crab for the crab cakes! I took the lead on that one and loved getting to mess up my hands making the patties. We were given a remoulade sauce to go with them and I'm looking forward to making that at home. Then we made the polenta. It was easy to make and tasted so good with the sea bass. The last thing we made was the before-mentioned sea bass. They gave us all huge filets. Chris did the quick searing on each side then we put the skillet in the oven to finish cooking them. When we finished each course, Natalie and Shelby cleared the pans we cooked with and our dishes. When it was time for dessert they came around with vanilla ice cream to complement our apple crisp! Sea bass is my favorite meal at a restaurant and usually costs $30+ on a menu. We paid $105 for four crab cakes, two huge sea bass filets, veggies and polenta, dessert for two and a bottle of wine. I can't think of any restaurant in Lou that we could have such a wonderful meal for such a great value! We have already talked about going back with friends! read more

Went a few months ago for a cooking class. Loved it! We made a 3 Course meal which was delicious. Instructions were easy to follow & equipment was spot on. Went back this week for a baking class.... making macarons. What a disappointment! We didn't have the right tools. There were only 6 mixers for 16 work stations, which meant that we were standing around, waiting for several minutes... twice during the evening. The instructor repeatedly told us that our cookies weren't going to turn out & told us stories of her epic "macaron fails". It felt like the instructor had no idea what equipment was available in the kitchen. Will return for a cooking class, but do not recommend for a baking class. read more

Overpriced. $120 ($60 per person) for something I should have done on YouTube U. Not a good value. Attended the macaron baking event on 16 Dec 23 @ 11am. One of the chef assistants knew NOTHING when help was needed which was disappointing. I was more concerned with the 5 y/o sharing our workstation getting burned and his Mother blowing into the ganache pot prior to putting the ingredients in (the heat will kill it, right?). Also, some important dude in the back on his cell phone while the chef is doing her presentation was disrespectful to all in attendance. He finally went outside but came back in only to talk on his phone again. My experience was underwhelming. Only 1 ganache pot per station, 1 recipe, 1 bowl, 1 beater and the inside couples had to bring their bowls up front to the mixers, bad hygiene,, and inexperienced staff was the kicker. I expected a fun time but felt ripped off. Maybe the date nights are better but based upon what I went through, I won't be back. Again, not a good value for what is provided. read more

We had a great time at our event which featured wine pairing from Jesters Winery with chef Bruce Jarrett from Saints leading the cooking class. The courses we learned to cook included pan seared scallops with Vidal Blanc butter, Cajun pasta with andouille, chicken and red peppers, and chocolate tart. The chef did a great job of guiding us through the process as well as answering any questions we had. The wine and meal paired well together and felt like thought was put into each pairing. The event space was clean, well equipped and organized. We had a fantastic time! My only wish would be to be able to take printed copies of the recipes home as I would like to recreate this entire meal! As someone who can already cook fairly well I was skeptical of coming here assuming they would meet the basics. Oh boy thank God I was wrong. My girlfriend and I attended a class at millies and had the best date night we have ever had! It is such a fun and great experience that will have you not only cooking great food but eating it as well! The best part about all of this (for those of you who cook at home) is that they prep the ingredients and clean all of the dishes for you! Not only this but they include a bottle of wine with the class. Now this wasnt the best wine ever but I'm here to cook not for wine. The staff was so informative and genuinely nice. You can tell the owner (natalie) really cared about what she has created and the staff followed suit. I will come back for more classes atleast once a month! They also offer macaroon classes as well as 1 on 1 cooking classes that I very much look forward to attending. We went to Cooking @ Millie's for my 25th birthday dinner! It was such a fun and well thought out event. The Owner and the Chef were engaging and kept the class laughing and having fun the whole night! We made crab cakes and steak with an apple crumble for dinner. I felt like I learned some new cooking techniques as well as a few new recipes to try! I highly recommend trying to get into one of their classes!
