Basically, if you're looking for water, beer, prepackaged, sliced meat and sundry items it's a quick in and out and also was quite convenient to the apartment. I was staying in service was fine and I'm glad I brought my own bags as Italy has adopted the same thing we do in California that has charge for bags which I don't mind Aside from its convenience, it's not really anything special. It's basically like any other store in its genre.

The store is a maze of connected small areas with mostly picked over shelves in a seemingly desirable high traffic city center. I counted two employees who may as well be playing cards. Maybe they're going out of business or the tourist season is in such an upswing that they can't keep the shelves stocked. Maybe it's a Carrefour express store because when you see the shelves are bare you'll be out real quick.

Get your cheese and meats up on the square, but for the rest, you'll be stuck with the Coop. This one is very small, a limited selection. The food is still amazing, fresh, seasonal and local, as it is in most of Tuscany. If you need anything you can't find here though, try the bigger coop in San Casciano (keep in mind that things are so seasonal in Tuscany, that they may be out of tomatoes if it's the middle of winter, even though that's a staple you'd expect to find anywhere in Italy). If you still can't find what you need, seek out the hypermarket 45 minutes away, near Florence, called I Gigli. My main beef with this Coop is that the staff is incredibly rude. Even if you speak Italian, as long as you look like a foreign (blond, blue eyed, light skin, or any race but white), they will treat you like crap most of the time. They will hurl your fruits and vegetables to the end of the bagging counter, they will not be patient if you don't have your money ready or try to pay with a card that doesn't work, and certainly don't expect them to smile or wish you a good day. And if you don't speak Italian, expect nothing at all from them.

Not sure if the price is what all grocery stores charge in the area because a lot of things seemed quite expensive (loaf of bread could be 4 euros, where as in the US, it would be like 2). But it's a nice place to go to pick up some essential food items/snacks if you don't like eating out all the time when traveling (especially since it can be hard sometimes to find a foods that fit your craving). He recommended a meat and cheese board with some vino that was absolutely divine. I don't think I've ever had such a delicious and fresh off the bone charcuterie as I did today. He sat with us while we snacked sharing with us his family history and 3 generations of business, since 1924. Such a kind soul. I hope his business lasts lifetimes more. It truly is such a special place. Can't wait to get back. Highly recommend. No crowds either.

The family/staff that owns the market and restaurant was so sweet. We stopped by for a lunch and ordered anything they recommended. They were extremely attentive and wanted us to have the best experience. We had the Ribollita and their charcuterie board for 2. It was such a treat! I've never had Ribollita before then, but it tasted so fresh and homey. It was as if a family had invited you to their home for a meal. The eating space is a tiny, so if you find an open table definitely try to grab a bite there! The walls are also littered with post it notes from customers who have had the pleasure of eating there. Such a great eatery!
