Disappointed in these folks. Reached out early November for am estimate related to EV installation. Provided information in a timely fashion and was in turn notified the need to come to my home and evaluate in person. The original date was weeks down the road. Cancelled due to Illness followed by a new appointment approximately two and a half weeks later. At this point we are a month down the road from the original phone call. Come the day for estimate, we are surprised with a $40, with no notification over the phone, through email or text, or on their website. These folks were incredibly thorough and polite. Up to this point, they were thoughtful. They were upfront about everything save for the fact that I was going to be charged for their visit. I called and expressed my disappointment about the nearly total transparency. Everything up to this point was clear and in detail. Everything but the money. I was told I could have my money back but I wouldn't receive an estimate. Interesting how no apology for the lack of communication was offered. Just sticking to their guns. As far as I am concerned, surprise charges aren't ok. If you fail to disclose the charge, then still provide the service,, in this case a simple estimate, if within reason and accept your own mistake. Every other company who was to provide an estimate showed up way sooner, was equally as polite and thorough, and was totally transparent. In other words, I do not see what the advantage of working with Cooper Electric is over folks who are willing to communicate in a comprehensive fashion. read more

I called Cooper electric because last night I received an electric shock when touching the garbage disposal switch in my kitchen, which, as you can imagine, was scary and disturbing to me. I called as soon as they opened tat 7:30 a.m., and to my surprise, Gil answered, and was able to schedule me this morning. In fact, John, the service professional, called a little later to ask if he could move up the appointment AND even arrived earlier than expected. He put on footies before walking into my home -- I always look for that as a sign of a real service professional. He listened to my description of the problem, then took time to make sure I understood their fees, which I appreciated. They charge a house call fee, and then charge by the hour, adding charges in half-hour increments beyond that. He gave lots of explanations to what could be going on, received my okay before starting the work, answered all of my questions, and was very thorough, explaining his actions step-by-step. He even consulted me about the color of the new switch he was going to install. He completed the job in a timely manner, then paused to check out one more possibility, i.e. that the garbage disposal itself might not be grounded (it was). On the way out, he asked if I ask any other issues. I asked how much time was left (in the hour I paid for), and he replied "4 minutes." I showed him the light upstairs that wasn't working, and he gave me a good, 4-minute explanation of how they would approach that project. (yes, it was a well-spent 4 minutes). We most recently needed to replace 2 bathroom fans and switches and several light fixtures. This wound up being more complicated than expected due to how the old items were installed, but our electrician explained everything and stayed until 6 to be sure the whole job got done. We especially appreciated that he was very careful to set up drop cloths to avoid a big mess. We've previously used them to fix dangerous mistakes from another electrician. Had an unknown power issue in our garage and called Cooper to investigate. Their pricing is very up front (hourly) and the tech Daniel worked quickly to find the problem. He found a burnt wire in a ceiling fan, and fixed it. He reconnected and the power was restored to whole circuit. I'd used Yelp to find another electrician some months ago, and took a chance on an electrician who came to my home, surveyed my electrical needs, then promptly made a pass at me via text after he left my place. Talk about feeling uncomfortable and grossed out! It took me a few more months to feel okay with inviting another (strange/male) person into my home, and I'm glad that when I did I went with Cooper Electric. The young man they sent over showed up on time, did his job well, was polite, finished early, and never said or did anything that could have been interpreted as being rude, lewd, disrespectful, or inappropriate. We live in a 100 plus year old house, so our electric is a hodge podge of old knob and tube and upgraded electric. To figure out where or what is going on with our wiring is a challenge. When a circuit tripped and couldn't be reset, I called Cooper based on their high Yelp rating. They were at our house in 30 minutes. Two trips and 8 hours later we are back up and running. Tyler and Gil were patient and efficient throughout the ordeal. We did have one small snag with a surge protector catching fire, but they made up for it by adjusting the bill. We have 2 more projects and will be using them again to wrap up the work. read more

Dave the estimator was very knowledgeable and a pleasure to work with. Brent and Tyler did excellent work getting our retro kitchen electric safe and ready for modern appliances. We moved outlets, added new junction boxes, ran new wiring for sconces, and they even re-wired our dishwasher which had been improperly installed and was a fire hazard. Horrible. Estimator came out on a Wednesday. Stated that it could cost 4k to upgrade service in one room. Suggested we just replace the plug. Said he could have someone out Thurs.Called back following Tuesday and said he had talked to his boss last Thursday and his boss said it wasn't worth it. No calls in between after I called twice. The covering to the electrical connection coming into our house had slid down due to settling, exposing wiring. Our house was built in 1995 and all utilities are underground. Nathan was the person from Cooper Electric assigned to fix the problem and he was great. He was on time and after Duke Energy turned off the power to the house, he was able to complete the job in about an hour. Nathan explained what he was going to do before starting the job and answered all our questions. We are so glad this project is complete and we now don't need to worry about weather and the possibility of an electrical short or other problem. Cooper Electric was able to complete the work only a few weeks after we contacted them. We would definitely recommend them for your electrical needs. read more

I would not recommend Cooper Electric to anyone. The estimator that came to my home was unprofessional, condescending and just plain rude. I thought I would give him the benefit of the doubt because everyone is entitled to a bad day. He gave me a carbon copy quote but I requested it be sent via email, as well. The carbon copy is hard to read. He said he would send electronically. After 3 calls to the office, I still don't have the quote. On the 3rd call, I was transferred to speak to the same estimator and yet again, he was incredibly rude on the phone. Based on my interactions with him alone, I am taking my business elsewhere. It's been a very long time since I have experienced such poor customer service. read more

I can not praise Cooper Electric enough for being a truly stand-up company. I had called several electricians about an issue my home inspector brought up (a sunken underground), and each of them quoted me at about $2,000 to fix. I called Cooper Electric, and had basically accepted that it'd be an expensive fix. Instead, Dave came to the house to check it out and was very honest in stating that there is no electrical issue, and instead just requires the conduit to be pulled up. Beware of Bate and Switch I contacted Cooper Electric and explained I was calling around for quotes. I have to say that the woman I spoke to was very nice. This is exactly what I told her I needed done. We have a 17ft two story great room that we need to have someone replace the ceiling fan. You will need a minimum 15ft ladder to do the job. She explained that that was a special ladder and they would need to send an "apprentice" to help with the job at an extra cost per hour (he would need to hold ladder for tech). I told her I understood but need to know the price before I decide on a company. She quoted a total of $210.00 for one hour of work with two technicians (Tech and Apprentice) and special ladder for tall Ceilings. She even explained that we would be charge for the full hour so if they were to finish earlier than an hour I could have them change light bulbs in 17 ft ceiling. After work was complete the service tech went out side and brought in an invoice for $254.00. The Service Tech and Apprentice were very professional and polite. I explained the above to the tech and he said I would need to speak with the office. I ended my experience with speaking to the owner on speaker phone so the tech could hear. The owner is far from professional and extremely rude! After a very long confrontation he agreed to honor the $210.00 price and ended the conversation by telling me not to contact them for service again. Not a problem! Feel very sorry for anyone working for this man if this is how he treats customers. read more

Please do not hire this company. They were not accommodating to the requests of changing days and times. The man answering the phone was arrogant and couldn't be bothered. He was annoyed that they had to rearrange their schedule (mind you someone tested positive for covid so the appointment had to be rescheduled). He passed the phone off to the owner who told us we planned improperly, "put the cart before the horse", and "screwed up", therefore he cancelled our job with less than a day of notice. Called to get a quote on some work for my house that I am remodeling and was told that they don't do work like that and that they were not even interested. I wasn't asked any questions about the size of the job or anything. From their website it says that they do residential and commercial work so I figured it wouldn't be an issue. So if you are looking for an electrician who will wire a single residence, you may want to look elsewhere despite their advertising. read more
