Hands down one of our favorite wineries on Red Mountain. My husband and I are members at Cooper and have thoroughly enjoyed their wines. Cooper is a family run winery and is all about the Bordeaux-style reds. Their wines are exclusively made from their estate vineyards. We've also had the chance to attend their annual CoopFest event. This event is a chance for members to get together and enjoy the wines. We had a lot of fun walking through their vineyards and stopping at multiple stations to taste their wines including their Gatekeeper line up. Their Gatekeeper line highlights varietals such as Sangiovese, Syrah, Nebbiolo, and Zinfandel. Their tasting room is in the same building as their barrel room, production area, and fermentation room. There are tables on the ground floor, however the tasting room is located on the mezzanine level. There's a long bar top and multiple tables to accommodate large parties. We've had numerous tastings and always walked away even more in love with their wines. Our favorites are the C4, Merlot, Carménère, Cab Sauvignon, and their Gatekeeper Nebbiolo. Service is fantastic and true to their mantra. You feel like you are part of the CoopClub. We are happy we stumbled upon this winery and excited to taste future releases! read more

Mixed experience. The wine is excellent and the staff is friendly and welcoming. However, the winery membership lacks diversity, and if you're not white or speak with an accent, you may feel out of place among many of the other members. The owner of Cooper is usually dipping into the sauce and when he is, he is a very aggressive, angry human being the people around red Mountain or at least the women I associate with stay clear of Cooper. It's a small community and word travels fast. Unfortunately, the owner also thinks he Has some high privilege for whatever reason and actually they have a gate now that only members are allowed to go to the winery so maybe things have changed since last summer but I stay clear. I don't need to spend my money on a business that has no customer service. It is seriously almost as if the owner works extra hard to push customers away. read more

So when I search most reviews are older, So this is more recent. Did 4 Red mountain wineries, and this was out of r least favorite. Tasting was expensive $45 for 5. Tasting comped for 150 purchase. Wines were expensive compared to similar wines from Kiona. While I generally give post COVID service a pass, we asked to sit inside since we were from the coast and it was hot outside for us, but they did not like that idea. This is an amazing family run winery! You can easily see the passion and fun that they all share for this winery and the industry in general. While sitting outside on the patio and enjoying our wine tasting, we were able to meet the owner (he was helping to hang lights for an event they were having that weekend!) and his sister who if I remember correctly, manages their marketing and promotions. That definitely added a special touch to our visit! Because we live in Kansas City and can't really take full advantage of the fun events that they host at the winery for their club members, they told us how they will do wine pop ups wherever members are. That is something very special and not something I've heard about at other wineries. If you have the time, definitely check this place out! I rarely review the wine, because that is so subjective; however, I feel like the atmosphere and experience is something that everyone is looking for whether or not they enjoy the wine or even drink wine. Pay attention, all of the good reviews for this place are over a decade old! Don't waste your time here. Red Mountain is known for its excellent grapes, wines and wineries. My wife and I stopped last year and after 5 minutes of standing around and trying to figure out WTH, we were met by someone who looked like they just crawled out of a logging camp and spoke to us like we were absolute idiots and should know they were under construction (although there was not a single sign stating such). Normally an experience like that would be enough for me to never return, but we are in the area again and decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. Again, went to the door that had "tasting room" posted on it... definitely not the tasting room, but where they store barrels of wine. So went to the next building, that inside looked like a makeshift tasting room, with nobody in there. So again, waited about 5 minutes, only to be met by someone who spoke to us like 2nd class citizens and informed us that tastings were only for members. Again, nothing posted stating such, nor any information on how to become a member (although that was the last thing on my mind at that point). I wouldn't stop here again if it was on fire and I heard someone screaming "help". Don't perpetuate their insanity... drive past, there are multiple amazing wineries only minutes past this abysmally pathetic excuse for a legitimate business. read more

First off.. if an adorable dog comes to greet me at my car upon arrival you've already got 5 stars coming to you!! The moment we walked through the doors of this quaint tasting room we were welcome with open arms! Being our first stop coming from Seattle it was a great way to start our winery weekend! Each individual who poured for us was amazingly knowledgeable and took the time to explain the wines to us. We had the pleasure of meeting Cooper (we thought it was the dogs name.. ha, no that's Bud) and he was so awesome!! Not only was the service impeccable the wines were just as amazing! Cooper is one of the most homey, comfortable, and friendliest places to taste on great wine with character. Neil and his dog, Bud, have been a staple of Red Mountain wine for several years and they never disappoint. First and foremost, the hospitality is always exceptional. Everyone who works in the tasting room is friendly, engaging, and more interested in getting to know you and your pallet than reciting the tasting notes. They have a way of really making you feel at home. Then there's the wine. Damn, it's good. He makes the premier Carmenere in WA, full of dark berries, spice, and pepper. It's truly amazing. He has three lines in total, Barrel Maker (everyday drinking wines at a great price), his primary line has a red label, then his small-batch unique offerings are adorned with a silver label. They are all delicious, but the silver label wines are out of this world. Using individual varietals, traditional and non-traditional blends, his wines have a common thread of rich flavor profiles, beautiful texture, and lasting complexity on the palate. I think the wine is ok but not fantastic. I really liked the Cabernet Sauvignon however the service was a mixed bag. Crystal was very friendly but the other gal (I think her name was Shelly) was very unfriendly and almost turned us away when we showed up because we were a large group (12 people total with 5 tastings) with no reservation. read more

Honestly I would give their wine a four but their service was horrible. We were served by a blonde lady who didn't even want to seat us. She took five minutes to poor between tastings. There was a lot of time with no wine in my glass. I could tell the wine had been open for a while. She had no info to give us about the wine and she was rude through the whole thing. I have a lot of friends who love their wine and I was very excited to try them. i went with a club member and she was treated the same way. honestly if that's their level of service I would not buy at their price point or join their club. If you do go ask for a different tasting room assistant then the blonde lady. read more

I'm not one to brag about a place , but I would like to brag about Cooper Winery. Upon arriving I was great by an old dog , who was friendly and showed me the way to the tasting room. The owner and winemaker Neil was behind the bar and gave me a big Hello and welcomed me to sit down and taste his wines. I tasted through and really enjoyed the experience. Neil even grabbed some barrel samples and shared them with me. Stoked to have stopped by and I'll be by again for sure. Cooper Wine Company is quite special! Coming from California's wine country I wasn't sure what to expect from a Washington wine grower. In today's market of mass produced homogeneous manufacturing everyone is looking for something with a bit more soul. "Hand crafted small batch operation" seems to be the buzzwords but it's a reality at Cooper Wine Company. The operation is small with only a few thousand bottles a year however the amount of work involved making small batches by hand is staggering. Nonetheless, the wine that's produced is amazing. Of the varietals I tried I must say the Estate Cabernet Franc was spectacular as was the Cabernet Sauvignon. What can I say, I like my cabs! Regardless, wine tastes are a subjective matter. I believe it's the people that can make or break a winery. Neil Cooper is the man behind the name. His passion for wine is out of this world but his passion for life is what I found really compelling. Neil is not a behind the scenes kind of guy, the day of my tasting he was deep in the processing stage with his employees. He greeted us in shorts and muck boots and gave us a very thorough tour of the process from vine to bottle. He explained every step and answered all my questions. He even let us taste a wine in the different steps of fermentation. Neil is very easy to talk to as well was Stephen his wine maker. I felt so fortunate to "go behind the sceens" but think because they believe so much in what they do they treat every customer this way. Overall, my stop at Cooper Wine Company was unforgettable. I will reminisce about my visit with every sip of the Cab's I brought home in the Fall of 2016. read more

Neil Cooper is a very nice, personable guy. Bud the winery dog is awesome. Neil is actually the wine maker. It's nice to talk with an owner that is also the wine maker. Their location is great and we really like the homey atmosphere of their tasting room. We enjoy some of their wines, and don't dislike any of them. When you get up over $50 a bottle there are quite a few choices available, and some stiff competition. Wine, as always, is entirely subjective anyway. We enjoyed their wines enough to join their wine club, the Coop Club. They recently announced a wine club shipment was ready. I thought I was commenting on a friends Facebook page that mentioned picking theirs up, but apparently it was linked to the winery page. I made the comment that we knew a shipment was ready to pick up, and though it's not our very favorite wine, we would be picking it up. My wife and I tend to join wine clubs and then evaluate them each year as to whether we want to continue to be a member. We are lucky to live in an area with quite a few wineries, and we enjoy traveling to other areas as well. Well Mr. Cooper didn't like my uninvited comment that his wine was not our very favorite and took it upon himself to refund the charge for the current shipment and remove us from the club! From the conversation that followed on Facebook I am left to believe that as far as he is concerned only reviews he invites, in places that he invites them, and that are glowingly positive, are welcome. So much for conversations amongst friends about their favorites I guess. If you express something negative apparently you are subject to removal from the club. Yelp must drive him crazy. I notice he has some glowing reviews, which I'm sure he deserves. Again, wine taste is very subjective. There are also some less than great reviews. His wines are good. For our tastes, just not the very best in their price range, but still very good. If it we hadn't been booted from the wine club for saying they weren't our most favorite this would be a 4 star review for the wines, the winery, Bud the wine dog, and the owner being the wine maker. There are a LOT of choices when wine tasting in this area. Based on our experience I would probably pass this one by. read more

First time out at cooper .. the tasting room was cold but we were able to sit outside and they put up an umbrella for us and it was perfect. The owner was great, pouring our tastings, 8 tastings!!! He was so friendly and Bud (the dog) was friendly. The wine though.. soooooo good!!! We live nearby and often take guests here to taste wine. On Saturdays in the summer Neil has different food trucks come out, which is a great addition out here. The tasting room always has a really fun, laid-back vibe, like Neil. If Neil doesn't greet you first, then his dog Bud will. The wines offered are often different varietals than elsewhere on Red Mountain, so that is always interesting. And of course they are nice wines. I think my favorite part about Cooper is the great variety of wine he offers. read more

The very best wine on Red Mountain. My fiancé and I fell in love with this winery 3 years ago on a snowy day, we immediately became part of the Cooper Winery Family. Being from the south, we felt right at home and appreciated the wine maker pouring for us. Everyone can find a wine they love, or in my case several at Cooper's. read more
