    Brisket, really sub par....
    Michel F.

I'm not going back. The brisket was dry,.tough and came with a big blob of inedible fat. The beans were horribly salty. And that was $27 for one and I threw more than half away. Sorry, reputation isn't going to be sufficient to change my mind. Has this place gone terribly downhill?

Cooper's has good food, decent tho not so cheap prices anymore, and friendly service making this one of my go to places for bbq when we visit family in the Austin and the surrounding area. Pretty much a chose what you want as you go thru the line kind of place, it's a no frills donning experience in a casual room setting with a roll of paper towels and a gallon sized container pickled jalapeños on the bench seating. They even have a pot of beans and a pot of their bbq sauce, pickles, onions, and white bread, all self serve. We had the usual brisket, pork chop, and jalapeño and cheese sausage. All were good. The pork chop was really good last time, so we got it again, and it didn't disappoint. The pork chop was the highlight of the meal. The brisket was not. Little over cooked and dry. We finished off the meal with cobblers, peach and pecan. Will we be back, most definitely next time we're in the area. Only thing I wish they'd provide is a different bbq sauce. Theirs is different, very thin, and not huge flavors.

100% I recommend this place. Best BBQ in all of Texas. Your life will never be the same...

Every time I get a chance passing through Llano, I always stop in for some good bbq. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone looking for a good lunch. I especially love their brown beans.

Stopped in and grabbed Cooper's BBQ to-go when I was passing thru from Fredericksburg to San Saba. First, you order your meat out by the pit. They sell it by pound and order fulfillment is cut my eyesight (a little heavy handed in my opinion). They slap it on a tray then it is weighed inside. When you walk up, the smoke smell is exactly what pit-smoked bbq should smell like. Your mouth waters immediately. How's the taste? Okay. Here's my take on Cooper's. 1. It's expensive but thankfully, they offer 0% financing for 6-months so we decided to order anyway. I'm kidding of course but bring your wallet!! 2. The brisket is VERY tender. Literally falls apart. Good flavor but needs more bark. 6/10 3. Turkey had a good flavor. Closer to the skin had better taste. 7/10 4. The sauce is runny and more vinegar taste. 6/10. It's just not my thing. 5. Ribs were good too. 7/10 6. Potato salad was good. Beans were EXCELLENT. Had some kick. Really flavorful. Bottom line - Would we eat it again? Yes. Also, if you really want to fit in, don't forget your cowboy hat.

Chicken, brisket, cole slaw, corn on the cob and delectable cornbread!

We were new to this restaurant and needed training! Everyone was so warm and happy to explain their process. Each employee greeted us when we walked in and when we left...even one of them that was eating his lunch! It's family style picnic bench seating. They have all the condiments you could need on the table and at a couple stations. Also have complimentary beans, which my husband said were fantastic. We loved every bit of our meal and the southern hospitality just put it over the top!

Stopped in on a suggestion from a friend. WOW! Great Texas BBQ. They cut into that turkey breast and you see the juices shoot out, they're doing it right! Had brisket and green beans, family style seating. Spoke with a retired couple from Kansas City, KS. The husband said Coopers beef ribs changed his life. Will be back again soon!

My Husband Played a round of Golf at Llano River Golf Course. He decided to pick up a pound of Brisket to take home, we live in Kerrville, Texas, it's not like where we live is around the corner. I must say at the price he paid and I asked about Bar BQue sauce he said they dip it in Barbeque sauce. My question is which was heavily Salted? The Brisket or the Sauce. It wasn't the Barbeque sauce. Lay off the salt. It was edible but the salt overwhelmed the taste of the brisket.

Lunch today at The Dam Grill was especially memorable and satisfying…read more It began with an experience that speaks to the true greatness of America. An elderly, mobility challenged couple parked at the front of the restaurant. The wait staff rushed out and assisted them to a table. Don and Barbara are regulars...I talked to them a bit on my way out. The care I saw happen there talks about the heart of America. It's not the politicians that make this country great...It's the people! It's service like this, that goes above and beyond. It's small, neighborly businesses where the customers become family. It's GOOD people that make this country great. ...And good food only makes it that much better! My meal choice for today was the large Chicken Fried Steak, with green beans, mashed potatoes, cream gravy, roll and sweet tea...your quintessential, thoroughly satisfying, Texas style comfort food. The steak portion was BIG! Big enough that I have AT LEAST one more fine meal coming from the leftovers. The mashed potatoes were smooth, drenched in a generous portion of delightful cream gravy. The DG style green beans are unique and were delicious. The roll was fresh and melt in your mouth good. As for the sweet tea... Well... Let's just say that it was just right! The smoke free restaurant is clean and spacious with plenty of seating. The friendly wait staff stays on the move attending to customer's cups of tea, coffee and sodas. The kitchen gets meals out quickly. The table bussers are meticulous and quiet. Outside, the parking lot has plenty of handicapped access spaces and free general parking galore...with lot's of room for rancher's truck's and trailers. I only have one complaint. In my book, breakfasts like theirs should be available all day long. LOL. Dang good stuff! Friday night is all you can eat catfish. When I want catfish, this is my goto. The fish is tender, succulent fillets and the beans and hush puppies are to die for. If You want a truly satisfying meal at a price that won't break your wallet, the The Dam Grill is right where you need to be. Just sayin'.

Not sure what their policy is on timing, but it was disappointing and she genuinely seemed as if she just wanted us to leave. Once we got seated, our server was super nice. We did wait a while for our food, but she kept our drinks full and checked on us, etc. She was the highlight of our visit. The food was inconsistent. My husband had the fried chicken sandwich and loved it, and my son had chicken fried steak and loved his as well. The fried okra was clearly frozen and fairly inedible. I had the club, which was pretty sad - cheap cold cuts with Velveeta cheese on bread that tasted like it was grilled in old grease. However, my onion rings were amazing.

Hooper's is one of the most unique restaurant experiences I've ever had!…read more It's inside the restored Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) house from the movie, and walking up to it feels so unreal. Once you're inside, you can explore a lot of the house and it blew me away how much you're able to walk around and see. There's art everywhere, tons of movie memorabilia, and it kinda feels like a Texas Chainsaw museum that just happens to serve food, which is pretty awesome. The theme isn't subtle either (in the best way). One area had a bar with a severed head behind it! There are so many little details, displays and photo moments that other horror fans are going to be obsessed with too! Even the menu is fun, with stuff like the Chicken Slaughter sandwich and the Hitchhiker's grilled chicken. I know it's cheesy, but I love it, especially when the whole place is packed with memorabilia. Food was pretty good too. The experience is definitely the main event, but the food held its own as a bar and grill, and mixing that with how cool the place is made it feel like a full stop, not just a novelty visit. Service was fine but not super standout. There were only a couple staff members actively helping people while others were cleaning up, and everyone was nice enough, just not really "above and beyond." Our food also took a while for a burger and a turkey sandwich, but honestly those are my only real complaints, and I'm only even mentioning it because I'm also here to talk about the food. It was great regardless of the wait. Upstairs has a few more Leatherface items plus some gory/spooky decor, and there's a cool little location map where you can stick a pin in to indicate how far you've visited from! They also have a creepy skin looking guest book to sign, which is such a perfect touch. One real warning though: it's an old house. In Texas, Prepare for the heat, and I mean that seriously. If you want to explore outside too, come ready. I had a UV-blocking umbrella and a face mister and I was still feeling it. Sunglasses for the grounds are a must too. Also, there's a kitty living on the porch named Tuxie, and he's a precious little buddy who loves attention. Make sure you say hi. If you're a horror movie fan or you just love weird, memorable places you'll be talking about after, this one is absolutely worth it.

They have fun decor, movie, posters, and other related memorabilia up throughout the restaurant. A group of 10 of us ate here tonight in the room where the notorious dinner scene was filmed. Most of my pictures are of the place, but the food and drinks were satisfying too. They offer standard American fare and our waitress did a great job juggling our orders all while being efficient and kind. I made a reservation online easily which is recommended because they can get busy, especially on a Saturday. I tried their artichoke dip which was decadent and served with chips. I got so full from that that I just had a stuffed baked potato as my main course which was really good too. Their beers were reasonably priced even for drafts. They also have fun specialty cocktails aptly themed to the history of the restaurant. We're planning to go back another time for brunch and to enjoy the town of Kingsland a little more. We were treated to a gorgeous Sunset on our visit but left before we lost too much light given we all drove from San Antonio and didn't want to be on the smaller hill country roads too late at night. We passed a few deer so you do want to keep an eye out for the local animals on the way there and back if you're coming from a different city.

Fabulous barbecue! Drove to Llano on SH 29. It's on the right before you get in town…read more Inconspicuous signage says it's only open Saturday and Sunday. Opens at 11. You get to Tumlinson's before you reach the much more popular and more crowded Cooper's in town. Arrived around 1:30 on Saturday and there was only one car in the parking lot. No one else in the restaurant but no matter, the food is incredible! I don't believe there is something as the "best" barbecue. I think that there is a sort of supreme level that has a great smoke ring, a great bark, quality meat and basically melts in your mouth. So tender you can break it up with a fork but I might use a knife so I can create smaller pieces. THIS PLACE IS ALL OF THAT with perfect rendering and a master class in what a brisket should be. 5 out of 5. As good as any I have ever had and what I expect as the top of what barbecue brisket can be. The ribs were cooked perfectly with bountiful meat on the bone. The rub was not noteworthy but they were tasty and led me to use the sauce. The sauce is excellent - thick and vinegarry with a hint of sweetness. Only ordered one side - the potato salad. Much better than most. Not what I would put in the best category but totally worth eating. The pickles and onions? Wow! I wouldn't bother mentioning unless they were amazing. (Or terrible.) These were amazing! What I loved was that they cut up the onions in chunks rather than slices. The pickles were chunks of whole dills and not canned sliced pickles. Finally, I'll get to the ambiance. It's spacious with lots of seating inside. Good a/c. Two small windows that look out across the beautiful Hill Country for miles. Since the wildflowers were in epic form on the drive, the view was amazing this day. But it would be excellent without them. I should have taken a picture but I was too busy eating. We left Tumlinson's SmokyTop and went to Cooper's and as a comparison, I give the edge to Tumlinson's. The briskets were both in the same top echelon of what I expect a smoked brisket to be, but I think Tumlinson's was just slightly better. But where Tumlinson's crushes Cooper's is in the ambiance/atmosphere. Cooper's seating is indoor with no real outdoor tables. So you eat in a confined, windowless room that is not inviting. No music playing. Tumlinson's with no one else in it was memorable. I couldn't wait to get out of Cooper's. Felt a little creepy. Finally, Tumlinson's was selling brisket at $24 per pound while Cooper's was $26.99. This part is insignificant to me for the most part but there is a real price difference. Final verdict - Tumlinson's 5 out of 5. Cooper's 4.8 out of 5.
