The patties had a nice smash on them, but overall it was lacking seasoning and flavor. For a double smash burger, I expected a little more punch. The bratwurst was the better choice. Nice snap, good flavor, and the cheddar and jalapeño complemented the sausage well without overpowering it. Simple, but executed well. What kept this experience from being a lower rating was everything around the food. The beer was ice cold, the cashier was genuinely welcoming from the moment we walked in, and the staff throughout the garden were friendly and approachable. The atmosphere was relaxed, and the outdoor garden made for a pleasant place to hang out. They music playing, and if it had started a little earlier before we finished our beers, we probably would have stayed for another round. Had the burger packed a little more flavor, this easily could have been a five-star experience. For our main meals, we got the kielbasa, which was pretty good, and the jalapeno cheese sausages with the rolls, which were also good. They also offer a wide variety of sauces to choose from. The atmosphere and setup are very welcoming. It is open seating with long tables, so there is a chance you might sit next to other people, which was completely fine with us. The tables were pretty clean when we went, and the staff is quite good at quickly clearing them up as soon as people get up. The price was not bad at all for what we received. There are TVs outside. Food is good. We tried two different kinds of sausage and they were pretty tasty. They have all kinds of sauces and toppings. Our first stop after checking into our Inn in Solvang was the Copenhagen Sausage Garden! It was on my husband's list of food places to try while in the area and I'm so glad we did. We ordered the Bavarian Pretzel that came with cheese sauce, the Sausage Sampler with Jalapeño Cheddar Bacon, Bratwurst, Kielbasa and Hot Italian plus a big beer and a cider! The pretzel was buttery, soft and paired well with the cheese sauce. I loved all of the sausages, but my favorite was the Bratwurst and Kielbasa - our daughter loved them as well. They offer a plethora of sauces to enjoy from Curry Ketchup to Honey Mustard plus they offer fresh Sauerkraut and other pickled items. Could be a bit of a wait depending on when you go, when we went there was a line but not too long. You order with someone at the front and then take your number to a seat on the patio and wait for someone to bring your food over. This was the second time I've stopped by the Copenhagen Sausage Garden for dinner. Both of them were around the Christmas season to visit Solvang. I came here with different people or else I probably would have chosen somewhere else to eat because I feel like this is one of those places that you go to try once and then you don't have to return. The seating is outdoors and there are no heating lamps which is for the better because it causes people to leave when they're finished with their meal. Both of the times I got the sausage sampler and depending on the time you come they may run out of some of the sausages. The sampler doesn't come with any bread so both of the times we ordered some bread. On my most recent visit I also got the potato salad and it's a bit too sour for my liking. The bavarian pretzel was super good, though I wished the sauce that came with it was a bit more warm. They have a sauce bar with sauerkraut, onions, banana peppers, jalapenos but they aren't super attentive with the condiments because they were practically out of everything when I was there both times. ~~Service: Fair given the only interaction with staff is just the ordering and delivery of the food. ~~Best Part: Bavarian Pretzel. ~~Worst Part: Depending on the time you come the line can get quite long to just order your food. We came on a Saturday night in December so it was quite busy but we only waited about 10 mins for the food to come out. We did wait about 30 mins in line to order. There was outdoor seating which was a nice vibe but pretty packed and can be hard to find a table. We got the sampler with kielbasa, bratwurst, and currywurst ($24 total, added the buns), a pear cider, and their potato salad and the total was $43 for 2 people. The kielbasa was our favorite, 10/10 so Smokey and flavorful with the perfect snap. Would definitely recommend getting that one, it also wasn't spicy and was nicely seasoned. The bratwurst was our second favorite, 9/10, did it justice and did it well! A little peppery but nothing crazy and was grilled perfectly with a good snap back. Currywurst was a 6/10 for us, we wanted to love it but wish it was grilled instead of boiled (?), it didn't have a nice snap back or casing and needed a bit more curry flavor. Was also not a great texture but the texture for the other two were perfect. The pear cider was refreshing and the potato salad was a good break from the sausages with nice pieces of bacon although very mustardy. They also have large variety of sauces which we loved!! Coney Island and curry ketchup were our favorite for sure and there were also onions, sauerkraut, and jalepenos at the condiment bar. The last time we came out to Solvang, this was an unexpected favorite. We're glad to see it's only gotten better.
