My husband and I randomly saw this place while driving to downtown Sanford. Our first visit we were welcomed with open arms and loved hearing from the owner what their specials were. We were so happy with our food we came back again. I personally had a hard time ordering online because I wanted to hear the specials again and make my choice from there. We were meeting up with friends and picked food for them as well. This second time they had added outdoor seating which was comfortable and nicely spaced. Let's get real... It's super hard to find good food in central Florida and stay out of downtown Orlando. This place was phenomenal. This little gem of a restaurant was recommended to me by an employee at TJ Maxx in Port Orange while checking out my merchandise. It took several months to make it there, but had friends visiting Orlando and we met halfway for dinner. The food was delicious, the prices were very reasonable, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I had the Pernil with Arroz con Gondules and Tostones. The pork was tender, moist, and flavorful, and the sides were fantastic. Also around the table we had Empanadas, Churrasco, and Chillo. We even tried the Alcapurrias as an appetizer. Hubby and I tried walking in here when they first opened and it was so packed thst we turned around & left. Last night, we finally decided to order in. Delivery is always a gamble because not everything travels well. We wanted to try a variety of things so we got a chicken empanada, potato & beef ball & cheese cornfritter as appetizers. All had great flavor but that cornfritter took the gold medal (it was incredible). Hubby got the churrasco platter & I got the steak mofongo. Both meats were a little cold & overcooked but that's pretty common with those cuts of meat. Everything had excellent flavor though and it was a ton of food. First and foremost, this has nothing to do with COVID. Strictly on the quality of the food. My bf and I were expecting very flavorful, authentic Puerto Rican food. Unfortunately the food fell short on flavor as the beans needed more seasoning, the shrimp had no color or flavor and the grilled chicken was specifically requested to be extra grilled (char marks) and still came our chewy. As a Puerto Rican I had high expectations as I would have loved to find a local spot to eat my favorite home cooked meals but this place fell well short of anything close to that. My bf had the grilled chicken platter (w/rice beans and maduros) and I had the shrimp platter (w/rice beans and tostones). I will say the chicken and pizza empanadas were good but it the main dishes were a no go. read more

My wife is from Puerto Rico and we've been waiting for a long time to have a true puertorican restaurant open in this area. We have been going here for over two years and love the great food and especially the great service. Jay and his wife are so nice and really care about their customers. Their lunch specials are some of the best deals you can find. The pernil is delicious and their chuleta platter is my wife's favorite. Did I mention the alcapurrias? So good! You have to try this place, you will not be disappointed. Great Latin food from a family run business that still remembers what great service and hospitality is like. When I first saw this spot, I saw a 4.5 review so I immediately went there to see and taste for my self. Upon entering the place, it was clean and the worker/owners greeted me and carried on to tell me about the restaurant and what they are about. I am Caribbean and have been to Puerto Rico multiple times, so this flavor is something I am familiar with. I ordered a chicken empanada and a side of rice and beans. Couple of minutes into digging into my meal I realized that the chicken in the empanada is not well seasoned and possibly old. The crunch in the empanada was fair, nothing special. Now the part of the this food experience that blew my mind was how bland and tasteless both the beans and the rice were. It tasted like that beans came out of can and they heated it up and said 'here damn'. Usually when it comes to eating white rice I don't expect there to be much flavor, but THIS RICE tasted like old rice that had been fermenting for days. I honestly couldn't finish my rice and beans. From this experience all that I can say is it's a nice place with great people and service, but the food is almost disgusting. Recommend they hire an authentic Puerto Rican cook if they want any long term customers. read more

We also tried their empanadas. The flavor of the beef and its tenderness was divine. Their Tostones were freshly made and the dough used for the empanadas was the best ever.
