But also be aware that libraries have so much more these days. The Batavia branch has games you can borrow, stem kits for kids, a seed library! On top of that check out the events on their website or social media, they have so many free activities for adults and kids alike, from art activities to movie nights to so many more. We have been to paint nights for both adults and even my 1 year old, they had a cool baby race my daughter participated in, we gave been to trivia and always participate in their summer read program. Stop on by they have stuff for everyone!

While its definitely NOT the huge glass roofed facilities one finds in universities and big cities, its definitely a notable one of a kind place all it's own that I'm personally quite fond of. At first glance the library may seem typical, full of books, movies, video games and magazines, lining shelves. Like all libraries these days the card catalog has been upgraded to a computer look up system for ease for all. But what sets it apart is the kind and caring staff, that takes the time to get to know you, offer recommendations and host events. Whether you are a child or an adult, you will find something for you. Not much of a reader? Check out one of their technology classes, holiday parties for kids and families, and free art classes for kids, and also separate art classes for adults. Although the ground floor is small, it holds the adult section only, while the kids room comes alive down stairs. Displays are updated, and activities and fun abound. I was there in early May when everything is just starting. They had a little library book sale and I picked up a David Sedaris book for a quarter. There is a great children's section. There is also a wonderful remembrance area for Flight 3407, in the back. This library also had a cute Sherlock Holmes display case that was donated to the library. This library is clean and beautifully maintained. The librarians were friendly as well. There is a large parking lot. For a Friday afternoon it was quite busy. They had a great work area for people wanting a quiet space.

I wanted to round up the rest of the Harry Potter books and movies for my Draco-Malfoy-obsessed…read moreteen before libraries potentially start closing again in these pandemic orange-zone times. :-( I went online to the library catalog, and noticed that the Clarence branch had multiple copies of both the books and the movies. Plus they were open later, which is convenient for us. So after work, off we went. The Clarence Library has plenty of parking in a big lot, which was light-and-bright on a cold, dark night. As soon as you walk in, you can see the full expanse of the vaulted, open space. It is a nice-sized library, with well-marked sections. Movies are to the right, adult books to the left, teen and children materials in the back, periodicals in the back-right corner, with all the other sections you'd expect to find at a library somewhere in between. There were computer workstations spread out in pod-like setups throughout the space, a few together in each pod, and some chunks of seating areas too. It took me a minute to find my Harry Potter items, as the books were not in Youth or YA, but rather in a separate "Series" section in the middle of the library. And the movies were in a separate "Family Viewing" section, too. But a friendly librarian helped me find everything that I needed, which was all in stock. Clarence is a very nice, bright, inviting library. When we need something and the hours/availability are convenient again at Clarence Library, we'll be back! :-)

If I am ever in that area, I would like to sit there and cozy up with a book, or do some uninterrupted work. There was also an art show happening with pieces from students in Amherst. What talent. The librarian was kind and enthusiastic about the program. The playground out in front looked wonderful with many children utilizing it. This is a bright, beautiful space offering so much besides the usual library things. It looked like there were a bunch of meeting rooms as well.

This library has been one of my three main ones to frequent in our area. On a more recent visit, picking up classic movies..both MA MA Mias...I found my self checking out their bulletin board on upcoming events. This is what brings me to my review....events and things to do were a variety for kids and adults. This particular library has adult color kits, and had a sign posted for paint night. Glad to have signed up...Kim our intrustor was helpful and patient for any of us with questions. There were a total of 13, with the instructor. The event was a creative, simple and each of us had different interpretations of the original painting. A bonus for all of us, Kim is an elementary art teacher. Great, stress-free relaxing evening...guess one never knows what they will find at your local library. Thanks Kim and Lancaster Library for hosting the event.

My quest to explore various Erie Country library branches had us landing in Lancaster last week…read more WOW, what a beautiful branch! It's an expansive, open main space with a dome-shaped vaulted ceiling adorned with big glowing orbs of bright light. A bit poetic of a description maybe, but this space really feels poetic. Even if you don't need anything from the library, it would be worth a visit. There is a massive copper fireplace, such a darling place to relax or study, just a lovely aesthetic in general here. If you are coming for particular resources, there's a good chance that the Lancaster location has what you need. There are many cubicle-style computer workstations in the middle of the room. In the front adjacent to a big wall of windows is the children's area. My son had fun with the legos and other blocks, as well as found a cozy spot to do his homework. There are several rows of DVDs and CDs along the middle-side wall, with the opposite wall housing stacks and stacks of books in all the genres you'd expect. Magazines are in the back near the fireplace. I like the "new" displays at this library, and actually came across a new book I forgot I wanted to read (the newer Demi Moore tell-all biography, winning!), plus there were newly released DVD and CD racks too. Perusing the rows and rows of materials to find something that catches your eye can be intimidating in any library, so I appreciate when librarians take time to showcase new offerings that may spark interest. Parking for this library is in the rear off of a side road, and there is plenty of it. When you enter the back door, it is a flight of stairs or an elevator ride to get up a level to the main space. The main space has some vending options if you want a beverage or snack. And there appears to be lots of community programming happening her too, with racks of flyers and many bulletin boards of happenings for people of all ages and varying interests. Checkout the library website for specifics. I really enjoyed hanging out here for a couple hours with my husband and son. My son did his homework, played with toys, he and his dad played checkers for a while, we all relaxed and read a bit, and found some things to bring home. What more could you ask, the Lancaster library is a very pleasant, solid branch. Come and enjoy!

space. Newstead…read moreLibrary - This library was ridiculously welcoming. I entered and a librarian rushed right past me saying hello, welcome. When she saw my passport, she asked me where my home library was and then gave me the low down of what was going on, what was for sale, etc.  The passport stamp, which is every library is handing out a unique sticker and after visiting all 37 libraries in Erie County, and if you are the first 1,000, will receive a gold library card. It goes from May 1 through Aug. 31., 2026. When I visited, they were having a media sale, a purse sale and a jewelry sale. I bought a watch. I picked up a packet of sunflower seeds for my husband, who is determined to grow them this year. They have a wonderful children's area. They also have a few bronze statues throughout the library, and when you first walk in there is one. There are also a couple meeting rooms. The selections were wonderful. The library also has a place for local people to sell items, as well as a small food pantry for those who need it. I will definitely be coming back to this library. I loved the vibes and the fact that they are accepting of all, and trying to take care of all and fill the need in their community. It is truly a beautiful, airy and welcoming space. It feels like home.

The Clearfield Library is in a great location. They were having a book sale when I stopped by…read more There was so much to choose from. This library had a great garden and in a couple months it will look even better than it did in early May. There was an area to sit down and study, and a great children's area as well. There is ample parking.

Such a great little library. They had several activities for little kids to play and just be kids,…read morebeyond just the books. My kids were particularly fond of the wooden dollhouse and the play kitchen. Also available were computers with headphones. Many kids were taking advantage of these and playing games. We also saw a number of raffles going as an incentive to get the kids reading over the summer months. The standout observation I had about this place was how many books they had for sale! Quite a selection! We are in from out of town so that was a nice option to grab something for the kids for the road that we didn't have to worry about returning, and the prices were fair at .50 for most and 1.00 for kids hardcover. Definitely seemed like the selections were geared more towards a kids library.

The Alden library is a medium sized library and one of the most historic libraries in the system…read more The upper floor is divided among 3 areas, the biggest area has the information desk, a few comfy chairs, displays, and low shelves of fiction, large teen section, and more. The two smaller rooms have more places to sit (including tables), and one of the rooms are dedicated to DVDs and audio books, the other has non-fiction. There are only 4 PCs in the library. In the basement, there's a large children's room with play area. There isn't a parking lot but there was plenty of open spots on the street.
