Sadly a dear friend of ours suddenly passed away. We attended the viewing, the prayer service, the…read moretrip to the church and the final trip to the cemetary. I was pleased with what I saw, as much as one can be pleased in such circumstances. The building is beautiful and has ramps for those that need them. There is ample parking but it is on a one way street parallel to Ohio River Boulevard. The room was arranged beautifully. Employees were available but were not obtrusive. They could sense when someone might need a little help inside the viewing but they didnt hover. Everything was perfect both days. We knew where to be and what to do, accompanying our friend to the church and later to the cemetery. Syka struck just the right balance of professionalism and compassion. It's a sad time. Not everyone is experienced with the rituals that may be part of the entire funeral experience. My friend had a beautiful funeral. But I am sad she is gone.

Accessibility is a problem for those who are less mobile. It is sad when people cannot easily pay…read moretheir respects to loved ones because difficulties getting into the building. After all it is a funeral home not a gym.

Funerals are never a "good" experience for any. After having attended many funerals at this…read morelocation, I have to say that the staff and ambiance of the home "lessen the blow", for lack of better words, of the situation at hand. The staff is always super friendly, greeting everyone and holding doors. The flow of the upstairs and downstairs allows for many guests to pay their respects and visit with others without being in the family's hair.

My family is from Aliquippa/Hopewell and this is the place everyone uses. The staff are very, very kind and attentive which is what you need and want during a time of mourning and saying goodbye. Very professional. The decor is a little dated but it's comfortable and helps with the healing process because the receiving rooms feel like living areas in a grandmother's house.

Our father's viewing was at this business. The ambience of this funeral home was very sparse and…read moreplain with ample parking. The interior gave a 90s vibe overall. I usually see peppermints and tissues strewn around most funeral home, but this place didn't seem to have them available. There is also no waiting/family/kitchen area on the main floor. Families usually need a place to have cookies, take a break, or drink coffee during sad times. When we arrived with coffee cakes for the family, the funeral director told us that there was no place for cakes here and that he would just shove them downstairs. I though that was a little weird. We also spent many hours making a video/collage that was to be shown on a television in the back because the funeral director told us over the phone that we couldn't make picture boards, but when we arrived at the funeral home, there were three huge picture boards. The funeral director then apparently tried to plug in our thumb drive and it suddenly didn't work with his system. He then just kept showing the same ten pictures sent in from a church on repeat. I thought this was also weird. The third thing that struck me odd about this funeral home was the rushed nature of the viewing and the lay-out. Have you ever seen people kneeling in front of a loved one at a viewing, only to be interrupted and tapped on the shoulder by a funeral director to "move along"? I never have. Our father also looked terrible for the viewing. It looked like they pulled all of his teeth out and suddenly his face was very narrow, which was quite unsettling to all, especially the children. I know that my wife's step-mother was in shock over a sudden death, and this may have just been the closest funeral home to her. I have never seen this type of unprofessional behavior in my life.
