I would like to commend both Konstantin and Steve for helping me today. First Konstantin figured out how to remove a stripped screw from a toy battery compartment. He wouldn't give up until he solved the problem. Then Steve took over by adapting a new screw to replace the stripped one. This is just one of many times that they have helped me. Very crowded. Good store but used to be much better imho. No more tool rental at all. Keys rarely work. Nice inventory but pricey. Used to have lotsa coupons no more. Hi there, I apologize for not writing this review sooner,.but life got in the way for a bit. I wanted to comment on an employee named Jason who was working at the key counter several weeks back. I had originally come in to see if anyone could punch a hole in my laundry card, (as they tend to get lost) and attach it to a lanyard. Not knowing if that is a service they provide, Jason readily punched a hole for me and solved my problem. [Hurray ALREADY ! ]. Then I remembered that I had wanted to drill a hole in a solid silver coin so it could be placed on a ring and chain. Knowing that this is likely not a normal request, I expected the answer to be "no.". Initially Jason said that this isn't something they normally do,.and paused for a moment. Then he said something like "Well, we really don't do that kind of thing, but let me think"...something like that. Shortly afterwards,.Jason said that even though they don't really do that, let me figure it out. He resolved that if I purchased the drill bit of appropriate size, he would at least try to see if he could do it. BAM! He drilled the hole for me and instantly solved the problem for me! It so happens that I had taken an identical solid silver coin to a jeweler months prior, and not only did they do a bad job, resulting in the hole wearing through and falling off the chain, but they charged me Thirty bucks! So, this is an example of an excellent employee in an excellent store, not only just "working there" but CARING enough to go beyond what is "normally done" and thinking that just because it's not "normally" done, doesn't mean it "can't" be done. And it was done better than the Jewelry store (where I was grossly overcharged). I could not be more pleased, nor could I be more inspired to return to the store for anything I need, and recommend the store to EVERYONE. Thanks again Jason. On a side note, I want to recognize the manager, Larry. I had left a previous review for another employee, John, who, like Jason went above and beyond what his actual job description calls for (I'm sure). When I had occasion to meet Larry in person to discuss this excellent employee (and again, this time with Jason), I knew for certain that Larry took these recognitions of praise PERSONALLY, as if his own family member was receiving an award! This is a rare and precious quality in a manager, and one that seems largely a thing of the past. I so hugely appreciate this "old fashioned" level of excellence and caring I can't even express it. We need more stores like this, more managers like this,.and more employees like this. So THANK YOU ALL. This place not only has hardware resources - I needed an air conditioning support, and key duplicates, but it also has simple household items like snacks + toiletries. Support local small businesses! a really good hardware store in eastchester that helped me get the right paint and supplies for my paint it yourself job. good stock of hardware supplies , etc, and the easy explained advice for what i need or dont need as i had to paint a one bedroom apt was helpful. i got the correct amount of paint , brushes , plaster , and covers to tackle a job that will take 3 days the most. glad the neighborhood hardware shops are still around as bigger chain places like home depot and lowes lack the customer service that i got at cornells hardware. 4.5 stars on my yelp meter. read more

Update: Owner of store responded on here and messages saying that their video surveillance tells a different story. CCTV cams and business surveillance cameras are not allowed to record sound in NY and most states without explicit consent. For lying and/or illegal surveillance I'm giving this store a 1 and possibly reporting this. I remember when True Value was legit. Hostile, invading privacy, judgemental. I don't think I'll be returning. Only reason I gave a 1 is because some of the staff is excellent with product recommendations and horticulture and they're very kind. Parking is free. Otherwise a 0 and here's why. 1. My mask slipped down when I sipped from my closed bottle of water. (85 degrees today and no sign saying closed water isn't allowed.) 2. After apologizing and immediately fixing mask, the girls at the register were going on and on about making announcements that improper mask users should be called out and banned. And how hungry they were, so maybe I was a victim of hanger. 3. Feeling intimidated and a little threatened, I apologized again. It wasn't accepted. They still took two customers before me as I waited in line socially distanced. (I'm sure they've made honest mistakes and wanted forgiveness after profusely apologizing. We're all human.) 4. Invasion of privacy. At checkout one of the girls asked why I had mace on my keychain. I replied that it's legally bought pepper spray (much different, and I have to show ID to get it), and that we're outside NYC where there's been a huge spike in killings and violence. I shouldn't have to educate people who are judging my personal belongings. This store should hire less antisocial people. 5. The fan I got there last week doesn't work. Thankfully Amazon, Lowes, and Home Depot like customers and don't try to make them feel unsafe. I understand there's a lot of social justice pressure to shop at small businesses, but small businesses need to respect customers to get them to return. Otherwise do a GoFundMe if you can't get conversion. Not everyone is built for sales. I have no guilt getting all this from Amazon. I just happened to be passing this store. This store records your phone number and email address in their computer. If you do not have your receipt they deduct $$ from your purchase. Meanwhile if they look up your purchase on their computer it shows exactly how much you paid for the product. I don't understand why this business takes money off for no receipt? Why take people's numbers and email addresses and still take$$off of returns. This is so unfair and I feel that this place are a bunch of crooks. read more

Brought in three window screens for re-screening. The promised date they gave was three weeks, Oct. 5. When I went to pick them up, nothing was done. Great local hardware store. Don't let the size of the store fool you - it is absolutely packed with options for your projects and carries products I have not seen at big box stores. Yes the prices may be a few percent higher on some items but it's worth it because the inventory has been curated by people who know construction and who know the homes built in the region. I just wanted to give a shout out to my favorite hardware store. During this virus outbreak Cornell's has been open and ready to serve their Customers with all you need including gloves and masks. But the most important thing about Cornell's is THE PEOPLE THAT WORK THERE. Whenever you go in they treat you like family ready to help you with any question or request always with a smile. Cornell's may look small and cramped when you go in, but it also boasts a full basement filled with grills, fire pits and a host of other items. This is one of the most complete hardware stores I have even been in. From the strangest of nuts and bolts to the most complicated DYI projects, it's there. And, the best part is that their staff is knowledgeable unlike the big box stores who basically employ stock personnel. In short, if it's not at Cornell's chances are it's no longer being produced. I tried to shop at Cornell's as I prefer patronizing local businesses. However, the laziness and attitude from the millennials in the store is totally unacceptable. I've encountered this on a number of visits to Cornell's. Today I reached my limit. Case in point: I went into the store this afternoon to get a dryer hose clamp. I asked the boy at the front of the store where I might find one. He shrugged his shoulders and said "Ask someone in the back. There is a desk". I checked in "the back" and literally not a soul was at the "desk". So, I left and went to Home Depot and left a happy customer. I'll never visit this store again. Yep. I'm back to shopping at Amazon and Home Depot. Bricks and mortar stores that hire lazy kids without a sense of pride and work ethic deserve to fail. read more

Stopped here looking for a few particular items. The store itself looks pretty large on the outside however, once your inside it feels a bit small. As you walk through the aisles the store It can feel a bit cramped because it looks like they tried to cram all of home depot into this one hardware store. I personally felt as if I was in a small country store in the south because of the type of interactions I observed between the customers and staff. Everyone seemed to know each other for years. I had to ask for help to find the items that I wanted because the items in each section did not appear to be grouped according to similarity. It was a bit difficult to find help on the floor because it seemed as if every staff member was engaged in a conversation with a customer. I interrupted various staff members on the floor as I needed to in order to find the items that I wanted because these conservations seemed like they would never end. The staff seemed very knowledgeable about their products. When I was ready to check out the line was pretty short and quick. The cashier was also very friendly and helpful. I'd recommend this store to others and I would also return again. read more

Usually I have had an excellent experience in this store, but this time was an exception. I wanted to exchange a garden hose (a $15 item) under warranty, because it developed a large crack. After 3 employees couldn't help with the exchange, a fourth was summoned, and began to tell me that it was the wrong hose for the receipt, and blah, blah, a hose is like a car analogy...! Needless to say if I can expect this nonsense again, I'll go to another hardware store in the future. read more

Today, I needed a part for my 100-year-old sink and asked for the rubber stopgap part I have gotten before. Victor asked me a few questions and suggested a different metal part that won't ware out. It works perfectly and was even less expensive. On my way out, I purchased an extra house key. Cornel's is the go-to store for a $2.00 plumbing part or a Weber grill, where experts are eager to help and have access to an inventory of everything. read more

Cornell's is a great little neighborhood hardware store. The 2 star rating is for someone who plans on buying Stihl equipment from them. As a fairly new Stihl distributor they do not have the knowledge or resources to handle repairs on the machines they sell. I recently bought a string trimmer from them which after light use the pull cord broke. They had no idea if the repair would be covered under warranty and needed a couple of days to look into it. I found it to be easier to repair myself (15 min job). All my other stihl equipment was bought and serviced at Berger Hardware with no issues at all. read more

A small local business, convenient location, onsite adjacent parking, wide selection, and friendly knowledgabele staff. Visited today for a minor plumbing fix, they knew exactly what I needed, what aisle # and discussed options with me. From parking to checkout.. 8 minutes!!. Likely their unit prices are modestly higher that the big box brick & mortars; but if your time is $$$ and dread schlepping thru the chaos of a metal deck top big box warehouse , served with a side order of lousy attitude + an occasional grunt is more than you can bear... come see why smaller is better. I have to go to Cornell's a lot, because I have a classic Westchester fixer-upper. The staff from the top on down are very helpful and really know their stuff. They will happily sell me a 15 cent part instead of the $35 part if it will truly fix my problem. I also always go for their seasonal, monthly and weekly discount specials. Don't go to the big box stores, you will not get the item you will really need and in the end will always pay more. read more
