This restaurant was a disappointment. There were fruit flies flying all around our table. I trapped one under a cup. At one point one flew into my salad. The SW salad was not at all a SW salad. I also found a random piece of roast beef in my salad as I was tossing the dressing into it. Then my daughter also found a random piece of roast beef on her plate too. Burgers were good. Tillamook Mac n cheese was good. Kids meal came with a really nice ice cream sundae that was good. But the overall experience was just not something I would ever recommend. read more

It simply doesn't get any better than this for a diner. Atmosphere, food, staff, friendliness, portion sizes: Amazing. My husband and I love diners and diner food. While we found one much closer to home that we like (and will still frequent as often as possible), we have found a new "very favorite" place at Cornerstone. Out for a Sunday drive, In St. Helens, and trying to find a restaurant that spoke to my hangry soul, I gave up and headed towards Rainier, knowing we'd find something. Just as we were leaving town, we saw a billboard advertising this wonderful café and we decided that would be our destination. Our server, Michelle, was delightful. After perusing the menu, it all looked too good to make a single choice. We asked Michelle about the special on the board, "The Redneck Benny." When she described it, I knew that was what I'd been hankering. Readers who may have read any of my other reviews (I do not post many) will know that a) we love diners; b) you only get one chance to impress me; and, c) on my first trip to any diner my test meal is Country Fried Steak, Breakfast Gravy (the white kind), eggs, hashbrowns, biscuits, and coffee. And every item is compared to the way my sweet little mama makes it. The only way "The Redneck Benny" could have been more perfect - all my items of choice with a twist - is if the price of the coffee had been included as part of the meal. Of course, didn't matter. Their coffee is worth every cent and comes in humongous mugs. "The Redneck Benny" is a jacked-up countrified version of Eggs Benedict. Grilled biscuit base topped by a country fried steak, eggs, topped with breakfast gravy and a side of hashbrowns. My hangry soul worshipped. Best breakfast gravy I've ever had in a restaurant, and everything else was just as amazing. As we chatted with Michelle, we learned she was part of the family who owned the restaurant and her husband, Dustin, was in the kitchen cooking. We praised the food and, at the end of our meal, Dustin unexpectedly came out to meet us and chat. I'm really glad we were there at a less-busy time so that this could happen! He told us the story of how his mom, Vickie Overbay, had dreamed with the family of owning a restaurant some day and had worked towards it diligently. The center focal point of the décor, a clock in the outer service area, was purchased long before the restaurant came to be. This family loves what they do - and it shows in every aspect of this business. We WILL be back. Probably as often as we feel we can make the 60 mile round trip whenever we decide to go out for a meal. Prices are great and the experience is more than worth any cost. It's going to take me a very long time to work through their menu, though. I have a lot of Redneck Benny's to eat in the process. I sincerely hope they will make it even when it isn't on special! I would leave negative stars if I could. Never have I experienced a waitress be so blatantly rude. She seemed extremely irritated by our presence. When my husband and I requested coffee she literally slammed the mugs onto the table. She did not provide creamer, utensils, napkins, or syrup. Each time we requested these things she seemed more irritated. We will never be back and will continue to share this story with others. Dear waitress find a different job if being kind, or even a tiny bit pleasant is too much for you to handle. read more

It's hit and miss with this place. We're locals and like to eat breakfast here occasionally. Went about a month ago and it was great. The servers are on it. Our food was hot and yummy. However we went this weekend for breakfast and it was disappointing. Servers were again great, but our food was cold and we couldn't get over the dozen flies that were buzzing in the dining area. Sad really as we are locals and like to support the local business's. But consistency is a must in small towns. read more

Corner stone has wonderful breakfasts and now here for dinner for the first time. They have a wide variety of sandwiches and burgers and a decent selection of signature dishes...and a few more desserts than you'd expect. It was "seat yourself " and there was plenty of seating so we sat right away. The waitress was here within just a few minutes to check if we were ready to order. They have a selection of beers, craft beers, wine and cocktails. She came back promptly to take our order and everything looked absolutely delicious--and it was all above expectations! We ordered the chicken fried steak (my FB covered his with the corn that came on the side), the BLT my daughter got she said it was loaded with meaty (meaning not very fatty) bacon, and a tomatoe without too many seeds! I got the "Charles E Fox" but substituted the sour dough with wheat. The wheat did not disappoint! The roast beef wasn't skimpy, grilled perfectly and not too greasy. I ate here after crossing the Lewis & Clark Bridge outta the dreaded meth haven hellhole known as Longview, Washington. My expectations were set to medium, but I was instantly thoroughly impressed with the simplicity and consistency of the décor. I ordered the Philly Hot Dogs, which were Angus beef dogs, grilled peppers and onions, mayonnaise and melted Swiss. Naturally, I exchanged my side of French fries for a cup of salmon chowder, which, in my opinion, was the right thing to do. All in all, I was very happy with my meal. The service was a little slow, but they legitimately seemed a bit understaffed. It was probably something as simple as one waitress bangin' in sick, or something along those lines. The food was fresh and left me without a single complaint. It was one of the better meals I had had in weeks. Far better than I would have assumed. Good enough where I would go back there again without hesitation. It made me glad that I didn't eat food in Longview. That place SUCKS! St Helens and Scappoose have a lot of chain restaurants that I have no interest in, so I tend to keep driving west. I found The Cornerstone cafe a few years ago, and I do love it. The Stone (as we affectionately call it) is the best restaurant in the area! Hands down. Whenever we are in town visiting our family, we visit The Stone several times. My husband especially loves the bacon (always juicy and pipping hot) and his favorite item for breakfast is an omelet called The Dave Dave. It's certainly not for the faint of heart since it's the most delicious meat lovers omelet you will ever try. Personally, the pancakes are my love. Always fluffy and served with warm syrup! I must also add that the coffee is always fresh here. I'm a former server and I know these gals don't "marry the coffee pots" here! A nice, strong, hot cup of coffee is a must and any breakfast place and The Stone never fails! As far as lunch or dinner goes, I strongly recommend the burgers! They are always fresh and juicy - nothing like a typical diner would serve. We've never had bad service and the place is always super clean. Fabulous! Awesome food and service! Pleasantly surprised. Dinner was excellent...steak with an 'old fashion' cooked baked potato. Hubs had the fried chicken--freshly battered and was served piping hot and crispy! Their dinner salad is second to none. Something you would find in a high-end Portland restaurant. It's well known to Columbia County folk that the Cornerstone is the best local diner in the county. There have been many to come and go, but this place stays round because of how dang good the food is! Good pie, good beer, great service and mighty-fine steak fries. I would recommend the Mushroom Swiss burger they have, with steak fries of course. Go there a few times and they might just start calling you by first name, or at.the very least remember you. A great hole in the corner wall place. Just off the main drag of US 30. One of the few places in Rainier that advertises using online food options. Yelp has deals, and they have options for 15$ off 30$ stuff on other food discount restaurant websites. Never got a bad meal here. Love the breakfasts, and the portions are great. There is a few novelty food gems that they have if you look hard enough. I usually get the HungryMan or the corned beef with pancakes for breakfast. One of the burgers for lunch. Rainier is such a cute little town and this place is just a cute little restaurant in the middle. We came for breakfast and ordered the 'Chicken Fried Pile Up' and 'The Benny'. The pile up had chicken fried steak, hash browns, scrambled eggs, cheese and gravy all piled on top of each other. A bite with everything in one was good, the meat on its own didn't taste seasoned. It was alright tasting, hot and pleasing to the eye. The Benny was 2 separate plates. First plate had biscuits and gravy (it was ok, not allot of sausage in the gravy which needed pepper and the biscuits were flat). The second plate was hash browns, 2 eggs and 2 sausage links (the links were AMAZING!!!!!!!!) Seriously the links were the best part of the meal! The eggs I ordered over easy and they were cooked nicely and seasoned well, the same with the hash browns. The mugs the coffee come in are oversized so be ware, lots of coffee coming at ya. The portions were very generous, I'd like to try dinner here (I'll try to order sausage links as my side at dinner!). read more

A perfect small town eatery! We came in after a soccer game at the fairgrounds there in St Helens with a few hungry young ladies and the moms. Service was friendly and quick, the menu had plenty of choices and the specials were listed for us right away with all questions answered nicely, even though there were a lot of them (Food allergies make dining out an issue)! Food was great, presented well, and served with a smile and we were checked on regularly by the gal waiting on us even though we chose a table that was in the far corner and a little out of the way (didnt want our herd to bother anyone else in the place, although they are pretty good kids they were awful excited about their game). read more

Saturday noon and the place was packed - usually a sign that the food is good. We waited about 10 minutes for a table to open up, during which time three different waitresses greeted us. We watched scrumptious looking breakfasts and lunches being delivered, as well as take-home boxes. As soon as a table opened, it was quickly cleared and made ready for us. The coffee was better than average,but not great. We ordered a Cornerstone Burger and a Patty Melt, both with house-made kettle-style potato chips. My friend said the burger was the best she had tasted in ages and I enjoyed my patty melt. The chips were a real treat. Prices are very reasonable. Service was prompt and friendly. The food was yummy. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual. Couldn't ask for more than that! read more

Not bad, the food is good I gave it 4 stars because the service was pretty underwhelming. I felt like the server was constantly in a rush when she was at our table and it took forever to get our order and she never refilled our drinks then we asked for boxes and she never brought them over so we had to go to the front desk to get them. AMAZING. Everything about our experience was perfect. The decor and atmosphere were lovely (check out the bookshelf of books and toys to borrow!). Our server (didn't catch her name but the receipt said Michelle - look for the lady with the on fleek eyebrows) was attentive, knowledgeable, friendly, and had great recommendations. And the FOOD! We ordered a burger and steak fries (the "Cornerstone hamburger"), a half order of biscuits and gravy, and then we couldn't pass up the sriracha chicken bites. The burger was perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned, perfectly built. The fries were piping hot and the exact mix of crispy outside, soft inside. My wife is a biscuits-and-gravy aficionado and she said that these biscuits and gravy were, hands down, the best she has ever had. The chicken bites were incredible. I was expecting chicken nuggets, but what we got was in a whole other league! It was a crunchy, spicy, melt-in-your-mouth combo of tender chicken, sweet chili sauce, and sriracha...amazing. Pro tip: ask for every dipping sauce!! They're homemade and TO DIE FOR. You can taste the dill pickle in the Thousand Island, the buttermilk in the ranch...you have to try it! Final note: My wife and I are both leftovers people: we always leave a restaurant with a doggy bag....but not here! We both cleaned our plates and then looked at each other like: ...what just happened. Come here if you want to be absolutely blown away!! 10/10 highly recommend. We will DEFINITELY be back! This cafe has a homey atmosphere with the friendliest hard-working staff you could ask for. With a full-service bar, optional outside seating during summer months, and awesome desserts, they have about anything you could ask for! My first visit was this past Sunday-late morning. I drove from Tualatin, OR and my girlfriend from Olympia, WA--discovered it was a convenient 'meet in the middle' location for us. Very cute, love the décor. A table was available upon arrival. We were ready to order for quite some time before our order was taken. Both of us ordered Soup (broccoli) and Salad. The Soup was tasty and the Salad was made with fresh ingredients. Our meals were prepared and brought to us in timely manner. Coffee and Water were frequently refilled. We both ordered pie, Lemon Meringue for my friend and I ordered Peanut-Butter. The Peanut Butter Pie was by far the BEST I've ever had!! We will be back....!!! read more

Waited 10 minutes at a table before we were even acknowledged. I watched another couple come in and sit at a dirty table for also about 10 minutes, the server was too busy chatting with someone at the counter to bother cleaning tables or get drink orders. When we finally got coffee, there were no refills, however,the server put her fingers in a dirty glass of water as she was cleaning a table and then grabbed the top rim of the coffee pot, so I guess no refills were a good thing. Also her hair was down and she seemed like she didn't know what she was doing. The food was good. But after watching the waitresses, I wonder how clean things are.
