Jeff, the owner of this business is extremely unprofessional. I as a landlord has agreed with him on a set date to send the owners payouts for the rents they collect but for the last several months now he has been unable to meet that date and has been extremely late with sending that money, even months late. This has led to considerable financial loss because bills for the building are unable to be paid on time due to his incompetence. We've reach out to him several times on phone and email but have not gotten back a single reply. Please landlords beware because the owner will treat you like garbage and essentially steal your money. read more

Run! Do not walk, away from any sites this company touches (or rather doesn't touch.) It's obvious they are paid to care for peoples buildings but, they fail on all levels. Frequently enter your rental unit without following the rules and are very in-your-face about doing it. No regard for bylaws. Have no clue about fire safety or their responsibilities for same under the law. Refuse to do repairs or deal with serious pest problems. Your lazy uncle/cousin could do a better job. read more

Cornerstone recently took over as property management for the three storey walk up I live in. This building was built in the twenties and had been neglected by the previous owners for a very long time resulting in a number of severe and long standing issues. Since taking the reigns the crew at Cornerstone have managed to nearly completely resolve a long standing chronic pest problem, secured the building which was previously unlocked, overhauled a dying heating and hot water system, promptly replaced dying appliances as necessary and are working on a number of other long standing issues in order of severity. The owner of Cornerstone has been very hands on and I have found him to be professional and reasonable in all of my dealings with him. He is quick to reply to emails and works to find solutions to issues that arise that are amicable to both the tenant and property owners. read more

If there was an option to give this company a -5 stars, I would choose it. I moved to Hamilton,ON Canada to help expand my media business. This company OVER-looks legally required building repairs such as WATER leaks from other apartments in the building. This particular case happened at an apartment complex owned by Cornerstone select properties in Hamilton,ON. The basement apartment got completely flooded DAILY for 4 weeks, until a single repair was done. The mess was not cleaned up. Daily garbage build up at the side entrances ensured the tenants that NO weekly maintenance was done. Constant rodent and pests problems due to negligent property care. The stairways are dangerous and have no railings for support. And to end this already terrible review, the Cornerstone select properties team will not refund the last months rent deposit, and has been sending false emails, with no helpful responses to the situation. Currently the company has stopped replying to my emails. I am taking the property manager to court in Hamilton,ON. I will update this review after the court date. read more

I am extremely disappointed in this company..Cornerstone Properties. I messaged about two apts and got a reply back almost right away. They were not for me. But the guy was extremely nice and friendly.. Which I could remember his name. So I continued to look and seen three/four more I'm interested in. So I messaged and called and messaged and called...over a weeks time and I get nothing back. No message and no call back. I don't understand. And the apts are still available as they keep posting them. I am very interested in viewing these places and yet I get nothing back. I thought the point to posting the apts is to rent them..how can u do that..if you don't reply back to people. I'm sorry to write this but I'm extremely frustrated with this company. Cornerstone managed 1 of my 8 property's, I wanted to see how it would go. It has not gone well, The tenants call me out of frustration because they can not get a hold of anyone including the property manager. I been assigned to 3 in the last year and a half and this time I neve meet her nor did she even reach out to give me the owner her phone number or ext. Cornerstone likes to take their fees very promptly each month but "accidently" (more then 6 times) forgets to pay the owner their money until you call them. They also like to order things like keys when they have keys and charge $16.95 for the keys, and there has been times and I have proof the my owners account is missing money and where confronted they do not reply to emails. Like they say... a leopard does not change its spots!! look at all the other comments. It is hard to imagine a "property manager" doing less. read more

Cornerstone properties managed my husband's investment property and are the managers of a good friend's rental. We found out after the fact that both of us had varying degrees of the same bad experience- from opposite sides of the coin- mine as property owner and hers as tenant. My husband and I first hired Cornerstone to oversee our investment property, which was in need of TLC. Cornerstone convinced us that they would fix it while also generating rental income. Win/win right? Wrong. During the time they were our property management, I received many calls from my tenants that Cornerstone did not respond to emergencies in a timely fashion and their phone lines unattended to. My tenants would call in a panic because Cornerstone did not respond to messages or online communications for days in the case of emergencies. This is their primary function. Their lack of repair and home maintenance ended up causing so much excess damage that it was more costly for my husband to pay them to do a shoddy patch job than if they had maintained it in accordance with our agreement. While we were coming to the tail end of our illusion with cornerstone, my dear friend's landlord hired Cornerstone because as an aging landlord, he like others, believed it would relieve the burden of maintenance and emergencies that comes with older rental properties. How my friend and other tenants have suffered since Cornerstone has been in the picture. One of many examples come to mind, but for posterity, this was the worst: My friend had frozen/bursting pipes resulting in no heat or hot water for multiple days last winter. Initially when her pipes burst, I drove into Hamilton to pick up her, her 6 month old child, and her 3 year old who was already sick with asthma (she had been hospitalized the month before from inhaling so much mold and rat poison at their rental), and they had to stay elsewhere for 9 days- until the heat was rectified. Here's the kicker- Cornerstone didn't approve a rebate, expense reimbursement, or even so much as offer an apology for the upheaval they caused her family, and instead claimed the pipes had been taken care of right away. This was despite clear indication from her neighbor who followed up on a daily basis if the heat was back on and warm enough for them to go home. I doubt any person in the employ of Cornerstone has been duped and forced to stay in a minimally-insulated, old house with thin walls and no heat in February. Rat poison, leaking pipes, cracked walls, mold... Cornerstone's greed drives all of their business dealings. Not repairing things and waiting for it to become a major issue is a way for Cornerstone to bill landlords at a premium while doing as little as possible. Not to mention the sheer violation to the tenant. Tenants spoke to me about living with leaking pipes, walls falling apart and critters running about because of it, while cs stood by idly. Most of Cornerstone's management properties are old and broken down homes/buildings that prey on vulnerable, low income families. Neglecting the tenants whom they are purposed to maintain stability and safety within their homes, is their bread and butter. They are the worst kind of bullies, threatening eviction should someone dare stand up to them. They take advantage of those who do not have the means to pursue other options or accountability, shirking any responsibilities. If you care for your investment property, the quality of your home, or even your tenants a tiny bit, do not hire Cornerstone Properties. read more

Cornerstone manage two Hamilton house that I own with my wife. They find tenants well enough - though many weren't vetted and went on to damage our property and leave with rent in arrears. The real problem comes when one expects any other sort of service or accountability. That is, we deal with emergencies (their emergency line is often unattended), repairs (theirs aren't quoted prior to being billed, are too expensive, and are unsatisfactory), tenant issues etc. It's hard to imagine a "property manager" doing any less than Cornerstone does. read more

Unfortunately my experience as a property owner has been frustrating to say the least. They are delinquent in deposing my rental income and for the last 3 months to the point that I have to call them and chase them to pay me. And while tenants pay them on the 1st of the month, I do not see the deposits until the end of the month IF I get them?? Their accounting records which have impacted my income tax are also poor and some documents which they are required to provide by law are not done and to this date have not been completed for my 2016 tax return. Jeff is never in the office, and their staff always plays the transfer the telephone game. I think they are using some rental income revenue to fund their own payroll and pay some owners whey they realize they are missing money. Please research other companies before going with this one. I am terminating my relationship with them as the funding of my rental income has become unbearable. read more

In July of 2015 Cornerstone Select Properties took over our building at Main and Ottawa. The first thing they did was to issue eviction notices for nonpayment of rent to all the tenants on July 2nd. Regardless of the fact that they owner didn't actually take possession until July 7th, and we had paid the (now) previous landlord July's rent. They have gone out of their way to get people to leave the building to the point that 9 months later there are 5 tenants left in a building with 15 units. We went without hot water for 2 weeks in July because they didn't think to open an account with Union Gas. We went without heat for the entire month of October because they never repaired the furnace when it failed to work in September. They began renovations on the building in the summer. First they installed security cameras, then locks on the exterior doors (but didn't give a key to Canada Post for 2 weeks), and half installed an intercom system. They've demolished the empty apartments to the point there is nothing left but wall studs and wiring. Getting work done. even when you send an email, is a trying process. They will fix something small but 'forget' about the larger issues. Every time something needs to be done it ends up becoming a case at the Landlord Tenant Board. So, if you're thinking about getting a property that Cornerstone "manages" I'd think again. read more
