Not being super into wool and hand made items at the time, I bought one wool headband and brought it home (living in Seattle, you get COLD all the time). I grew to love this headband so much, that I now order headbands all the time from this place and have them shipped to Seattle. I cannot find yarn like the yarn at Ragamuffin ANYWHERE! It is so unique and thick, I would buy hundreds of headbands from this place if I could. Truly, they are so unique, I cannot do them justice in an explanation. It's a delightful boutique geared towards an older style of fashion and a slightly older audience. The dresses and coat sets are timelessly fashionable, lending their inspiration from the elegance of the 50s. Some of the hats and skirts reminded me of how Audrey Hepburn looked in My Fair Lady when she was parading around at Ascot. The cocktail dresses look like they'd fit like a glove, and are all very high quality. They are priced accordingly, but it would definitely be worth it if you were going to a wedding. Places like Chique are few and far between these days, but it's great that this little boutqiue still exists as it has the older fashioned manner of customer service (i.e it's friendly and personal!), and the dresses are gorgeous. Probably not household names to any of us under 30. They have loads of lovely outfits and dresses which would suit the older lady, maybe 40 plus, and they are costly to say the least. Expect to pay upward of £160 for a dress in here, and that's the cheaper end of the spectrum. The website probably showcases the outfits better so you can have a look before you go in, the only disadvantage be that there aren't any prices on the actual clothes. The selection for women who are a size 20 plus is shockingly little, and my mum often has a problem finding stores to accomodate her, often having to order online from expensive American companies. I was pleased as punch to find this wee place, and discover that it also has a twin sister store in Glasgow. Perfect! The Edinburgh branch is fantastic, with well informed and passionate staff, who feel the same as I do about the lack of plus size clothing on the High Street. They sell formal wear, day wear, knitwear and jackets, and although it is expensive at times, they always have items in stock for you to try on, which in my Mum's experience is half the battle. Waiting 2 weeks on an American shipment and then realising it doesn't fit or feel right is not good. I picked up a gorgeous turquoise jacket for my mum, which was expensive at £99, but well worth it. The fabric was gorgeous and durable, and above all, the jacket was stylish and classic, and not 'old-lady-esque' like a lot of plus sized stores stock. I will definitely be back, next time with my mum, when she has a special occasion. Take heed High Street stores, and start catering for the curvier women out there!

Situated in the Grassmarket area of Edinburgh, Lady JoJo's Boutique is just around the corner from the Royal Mile and it is a short walk to the main shopping street in Edinburgh, Princes Street, and so it is a convenient place to reach. This store is relatively new on the Edinburgh clothing scene, and it is a definite welcome addition. I love to come here and browse the shop and admire their beautiful stock. The boutique is pretty small inside but it boasts a beautiful selection of dresses, tops, trousers and accessories. I bought an absolutely gorgeous dress here several months ago, and it cost around £50, but it is of excellent quality and I wear a lot when I go out so it is definitely good value for money. The stock changes over quite a bit, so I find that if there is something I like, its probably best to buy it there and then rather than waiting a week and finding out its not longer on sale - that has happened to me several times!! The staff are really friendly and warm too. Lady JoJo's is a great place to go to buck the trend and buy your clothes from a non-high street store.

I was drawn inside by the kitsch sign and the funky name. 'Lady JoJo's' sounded like my kind of shop. I wasn't disappointed when I stepped inside, and was greeted by the two lovely young shop assistants. The stock is sparse, which one of the said assistants explained was because they were simply testing the water to see what kind of stuff people liked best. Rails of gorgeous retro swing dresses and frilly knickers really caught my eye, as did the old fashioned dresser table adorned with gorgeous jewellery and seamed stockings. The boutique oozed with the retro glamour of Betty Paige and 1950's style, which is quite unique in Edinburgh and stocks ranges such as 'What Katie Did' and 'Love Kills'. A handmade necklace with two chunky red hearts emblazoned with 'Pin Up Girl' really caught my eye. I bought the necklace and was pleasantly surprised when it was only £8, with a 20% discount complimentary because the shop had just opened. Perfect! I will certainly be visiting in a couple of weeks when it is more established and full of gorgeous Pin Up clothes and jewellery.

The shop is very organised and everything is just so glamorous, when I get my high flying job (hopefully soon) I will make a trip to Karen Millen with my first pay packet to buy one of the beautiful dresses rather than just drooling over them from afar. So if you're looking for an extra special dress with the "wow factor" and have a generous budget to spend then march yourself along to Karen Millen!

They have sales a few times a year and you can easily find beautiful items, including dresses, for under 100 quid. The dresses I own from KM from almost 10 years ago still look great. This shop is a bit small but carries what seems like a well-curated selection from the overall collection with classics and trendier items. The quality of much of the clothing is comparable to items from other brands I've seen that cost 5x as much. Fabrics are mostly synthetic, but good quality. And sales staff has always been very helpful, even from my first visit when I came in frazzled and soaked to pick up a last-minute Christmas gift. Worth popping in if you want something pretty and stylish but aren't quite ready to burn a hole in your credit card at Harvey Nicks.

From the beautifully curated window displays that left me wanting to swap spots with the mannequins to the sweet shopkeeper who was incredibly sweet and knowledgeable. The store offers everything from tweed bow ties and British floral print shorts to scarf hair wraps and one-of-kind tweed jackets for both men and women. The space featured an old-times antique vibe but was well organized and not over cluttered. I ended up purchasing a mini tweed bow tied made from scraps of classic tweed jackets that can be added to shirts and my hair. Bonus: the shop was located in a bustling neighborhood one block from the royal mile with great restaurants and fellow retail shops all around.

The dresses in here are in stunning condition, and all are proudly displayed on their hangers. They are mostly second hand but carefully chosen by the owner, who customers stopping by during my visit kept raving about! Always a good sign. The ladies occupying the shop were relaxed and friendly, having a good chat with me while I browsed. The clothing and accessories were all utterly unique and absolutely divine. I usually avoid big designers but when they are all displayed in such a fashion, and with the prices deflated, I have been enlightened and can now see why girls go crazy for them. Everything was colourful without being garish, and of impeccable quality. I bought an unusual ring out of Trouve for a reasonable price - it was too difficult to leave empty handed - and I had to hurl myself through the door before I went back to spend more money on a dress I fell in love with, and a pair of earrings I knew I didn't need (but wanted...badly). I felt pampered and well looked after without the shop assistants being too gushy or sleazy. They were genuinely lovely people who cared about their business - a very rare quality. It was bizarre in this day and age to see how a little business becomes pivotal to part of as community. Each and every customer asked for the owner, and one customer boasted of her entire outfit that day having been bought in here over the years! I can see why the girls love it so much - the shop owner runs wine tastings and other such girly events in store, adding spice to the art of shopping. I can't praise Trouve enough. It's got to the point I want to persuade my boss to get her wedding dress from here, and even if you don't buy anything (unlikely, ladies) you'll be bowled over by how lovely the shop assistants are. Just amazing. At the risk of starting a stampede, I should tell you that they had a rather foxy Prada dress for forty quid. Go, go, go!!

Offering clothes that are funky, hip and other adjectives from the 60s, there is a veritable feast of style in Trouvé (as you'd expect from a shop with a 'quirky' French name hinting at thrift store chic) . With cheap t-shirts (around £15-20), skirts and dresses, there is a surprising amount of choice in this small store, largely down to the fact it is very well laid out. Pride of place are the vintage dresses ( about £75-100) and even as a guy I was impressed. In addition to the clothes there are cool little nick nacks, jewellery and a good selection of shoes and bags, basically a girl's night out in one shop and who can say no to that. To add to this the staff are equally en vogue and have excellent product knowledge; it looks like they actually care about the stuff they are selling which makes a nice change. The only downside is that it is so popular with ma petite amie that I am not likely to stop hearing about it any time soon, which to be honest is not really the shop's fault. Vive la Trouvé!!
