I was quoted a price to install LVP with a 12 mil wear layer, and advised this was a more expensive product and that the installation would be more expensive. I agreed and submitted the square footage. Initially, the installation was scheduled to take place on a Saturday morning.
I received a text message from the business owner on Friday evening at 11:50 PM stating that they had a "family delay" and would need to perform the install on Sunday. I understand that things happen, and agreed.
The installers arrived, parking half their truck on my front lawn, which damaged my grass. They began removing my old carpeting, during which time they damaged paint on several walls, dented and scraped door casings, and chipped several floor tiles in adjacent spaces. When they brought in the LVP, I found that it was the less expensive 8 mil wear layer. At this point, I was pretty stuck since all the carpet had been removed.
They did not bring the transition/reducer strips needed where the LVP meets the numerous tiled rooms in the house. I reached out to the owner (who was not on site), and he said that since I never mentioned needing them that he didn't put them on the truck. I sent him screenshots of our conversation where I'd said these would be needed, and pointed out the dozen photos of the areas where the LVP would be meeting the tiled surface. He apologized and said that I needed to go to Lowe's or Home Depot to get the material and his installers would take care of it. I did so.
I returned home with the pieces, having spent $200 on the 26 total feet needed. The installers opened every package with utility knives and then the owner called me to say that I bought the wrong product and that they were too expensive to use (the strips I purchased were correct to use with LVP). He said that he would take care of installing the transitions and to return what I had purchased.
I looked over the nearly completed LVP installation to find several bubbles, bumps, and waves in the flooring. I was told by the owner that they would guarantee the installation for 1 year and that he would correct any issues when he came to install the transition strips. Because of this, I paid his installers the full price we agreed to (though that price was for the more expensive flooring that I didn't receive), with the understanding that they would return to finish the install. A few minutes after they left, I found a small corner section of one room was missing LVP, and was just the concrete slab with glue on it.
After several days reaching out to the owner to try to verify when the install would be completed, he said he would be out this morning. Over the next several days, I continued to reach out to confirm the day and time and have not received a response in over 48 hours.
Here it is, Friday morning, and I have taken the day off of work to be available for the install to be completed. I still have several areas where I'm scrubbing glue off of baseboards and door casings, trying to touch up damaged walls and paint, I have chipped tiles, and 26 feet of spaces where tile meets the flooring without any reducer or transitions, leaving unsightly gaps and tile sitting 1/4" higher than the LVP. I have to remove the adhesive in the unfinished corner of one room and install the missing LVP. I also need to try to fix the grass that was killed when they parked their truck on it, and remove the oil stain on my driveway from their vehicle.
I am trying to sell my home, and have over $1000 in damages to repair, all of which was caused by their installers. This installation was supposed to add value to the home, not worsen it.
This entire experience has been one of the most frustrating things I've dealt with. Initially the owner was very nice and responsive, but I am left with several hundred dollars in damages and an incomplete install that I overpaid for, thinking that this company would honor their word and make things right. read more
